I like this show, sort of, except for its disassociation from its origin.
I wonder how many USA watchers of this show know it is based in a Canadian town? Maybe too many to make it popular. Americans automatically avoid Canadian TV. It is a Canadian TV show pretending to be American, but don't hold that against it. If you like it, that doesn't matter. But since the USA TV market overwhelmingly drives Canadian TV production ...
This is Canadian TV show, supposedly based on a real life Canadian town of ~ 4700 people. Yet, "American" (USA) references, concepts, and attitudes are prevalent, like:
This is all due to the show wanting to appeal and sell to people in the USA. There are more people/customers in USA than Canada, so to H-E-double hockey sticks with Canadian identity/interests.

This is Canadian TV show, supposedly based on a real life Canadian town of ~ 4700 people. Yet, "American" (USA) references, concepts, and attitudes are prevalent, like:
- Gibsons has its own police department. This might be usual in USA, but for Canada, smaller places like this in Canada do not. Only cities in Canada have their own police forces/departments. All other "smaller" places rely on the RCMP or provincial police forces.
- The show frequently mentions "other states", as if Gibsons is in a USA state, not a Canadian province.
- People in the show frequently use the term "Pacific Northwest" to refer to their location. That term is used by Americans, but not Canadians. To the USA, the "Pacific Northwest" is Washington State, to Canada, (if we used the term), the "Pacific Northwest" would be a much larger area, the coastline north of Vancouver Island, going up to Yukon and Alaska.
This is all due to the show wanting to appeal and sell to people in the USA. There are more people/customers in USA than Canada, so to H-E-double hockey sticks with Canadian identity/interests.
