This film rocked!
I hate scary films, I hate predictable films. I loved this movie.
It was great to be at Sundance and hear 1200 movie buffs scream "don't go in there" and still gasp and then moan for gasping and then giggle because they were actually scared. This film is a great adrenanline rush. See it on the big screen at night, on opening night.
Also, this is a very British movie. This movie could not be set in the US.
And the empty shots of London, drool drool drool.

This is without doubt my favourite film. Greenaway creates such depths of lushness that each frame could be hung up and enjoyed by itself. Like lake sailing, it's quiet riches are not for everyone, but I do use it as a litmus test for my potential friends. This was the role Geilgud was born for.
This is the only film I have ever walked out on. The extreme senseless violence, lack of energy, dim cinematography and inane characters combine to take boring to new heights. Blech. If someone could tell me why this film was so widely regarded, I'd appreciate it.
