Update: unfortunately I have to lower the rating, as the story became too repetitive, different challenge, same procedure. The play with the opposites turned into boring stereotypes. Thus, the originality and freshness of the show got lost, which is very unfortunate.

Let's see if the show can regain territory before it ends...

Up till ep 6 absolutely great!

Junho carries the show and it's a real pleasure to see him again ;) Junho apart, this story stands out with clarity and warmth, exploring the effects of IMF crisis on personal and social levels. Junho transiting from happily floating freedom party life to shouldering the legacy and business of his father is nothing but excellent. On his side he has the ernest, marvellous, grounded and sincere Minha contrasting and helping him enter his new role as CEO, she as well with terrific acting. Sincere, not too sweet, not too stiff.

The setting of the late 90s is precise, the dialogues convincing, the metaphors satisfying.

There are plenty of difficulties and debts to overcome and secrets to be uncovered.

After such a great start, I really hope the series is able to manage well the possible pitfalls, like overstraining difficulties, balancing romance and the original scope, avoiding clichés.

If it's able to maintain it's momentum, it's questioning, it's emotional depth it's going to be one of 2025's best productions, if not the best.

Couldn't pick a better ML than Lee Jun-ho! His smile, his humor, his energy and wanting to do everything possible to take over his dad's business and and portrays the romance perfectly and is so handsome. The FL gets more likable as she starts to stand on her own as a trader and starts to feel the romance sparks. Love the episode where Lee Jun-ho sings "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" and loved the music choice by the producers and who directed it - fantastic song - so glad they are embracing the best songs from 1967. Brought back the best memories. Love the comical side and lightness to this story from the 1990's hard times. A little violence due to the nature of the theme.

This drama is everything k drama is good at. The traditional 16 hour format, beautiful storytelling and character development with well researched sets. The characters are all great actors, but LeeJunho is a true stand out. Already a Baeksang winning actor for The Red Sleeves, and well known for Guwon in King The Land, his portrayal of Kang TaePoong may surpass them all. His subtle facial expressions and gazes take the audience with him on Taepoong's journey of highs and lows. Kim Minha plays her part so naturally, and the whole cast blends is excellent.

For Koreans, there are many very small details that are all accurate. For example, clocks on the wall, messages on shoes, Korean bred roses, bank books ... to name a few. For the rest of us, it is a unique time in history to learn about.

I haven't watched a k drama like this for a long time. It's truly a masterpiece.

It's rare to find a drama that teaches, touches, and entertains all at once - Typhoon Family achieves it beautifully.

Stories about characters striving to achieve their dreams are always special. When done right, such shows can be both eye-opening and deeply motivational. Typhoon Family is exactly that - a brilliant blend of likable, relatable characters, consistently realistic storytelling, and timeless themes of determination, perseverance, and hard work.

Set against the dreary backdrop of an economically unstable Korea, this drama is on a clear path to becoming one of the year's best.

The main character is as good as it gets - smart, charming, youthful, kind, and undeniably handsome. I could go on and on about Kang Tae-poong, but what truly stands out is how perfectly Lee Junho embodies him. Tae-poong often finds himself in over his head, yet he's never afraid to ask for help, never afraid to fail, and never afraid to try again. He's resilient and optimistic, but even the strongest have a breaking point - and I'm eager to see his. Still, with his passion, sharp instincts, and strong support system, it's hard to imagine him not succeeding.

Our female lead complements him beautifully. She's intelligent, dutiful, and far more than just a romantic interest. She's a fully developed character with her own struggles and obstacles to overcome. The supporting cast also contributes meaningfully, each serving the story effectively in their own capacities.

Typhoon Family is very much a character-driven drama rather than a plot-driven one. The characters shape their own destinies, and their choices naturally move the story forward. Themes of ambition, greed, trust, perseverance, and the balance of risk and reward are woven neatly into the narrative, delivering powerful life and business lessons along the way. I know I've personally learned a thing or two.

I was once asked why I watch K-dramas when I'm so particular about solid plot writing and complex characters. The answer is simple - every once in a while, a drama like Typhoon Family comes along. A show so well-crafted that it can rival even the best of Hollywood's productions. And honestly, I wouldn't want to miss it for the world.
