There are diverse, beautiful actors but the acting stinks, storyline is a boring version of meet the Khandasamys and the cringey unauthentic acting makes it worse. I cannot evern specify enough how absolutely cringe the acting is. Most of the jokes fall flat, aside from the dads, nobody else is really funny or entertaining. It's mostly just boring, and predictable. Theres very few actually funny moments. I dont like that they pretty much took the khandasamys script and race swopped it. Would have be nice to see a movie with an original storyline and ideas and actual good non cringe acting. 0/10.
Meet the Khumalos😊
Meet the Khumalos came up on our Netflix on 11/4/2025. As a south African born, and a fan of Jayans previous work Keeping up with the Kandasamys which we all loved, I watched it and Im
based in the UK. I was impressed from the start to finish. The movie flowed so well and I was glued to the screens. The actors and actresses all were brilliant in each of their own characters. The scenes were authentic and I could relate to them. Many familiar places and markets added to the authenticity. Overall a brilliant production by Jayan Moodley..its definitely a Netflix hit..Ive since recommended to other friends and family. I cant wait to see more of the Khumalos and more work from the very talented Jayan Moodley 🙏😊😃
The amount of cultural aspects in this film is fresh and innovative; it's nice to see them incorporated into the story.
Otherwise, I don't have much else good to say about it; it's clichéd, predictable, and the characters' actions often make no logical sense at all. Nothing surprises you, and the jokes aren't really funny. When they have the opportunity and the setting to deliver a genuinely comedic moment, they pretty much waste it. It's not a dud of a movie, but I personally wouldn't recommend it.
I feel like more could have been done with this product, the character writing feels weak and the jokes aren't outstanding, original or clever. It's not a terrible movie overall, but it's not at all memorable beyond the culture that was seen in it. It has redeemable moments but overall it feels... Meh.

I'm a guy from Germany and movies made me feel more dead inside lately ..
Had I read these reviews first (rn its 3 and one is 5, one is 1 and one is 10) I would have thought the 10/10 is bought, the 5/10 is bonus points scratched together and the 1/10 is honest cause its gotta be crap..
I would have been so wrong. It was hauntingly beautiful and filled me with life! Don't get me wrong.. its not the next Titanic.. its just a beautiful depiction of regular family life! Not particularly romantic, not too funny.. Just these moments out of life that happen in families but playfully decorated and garnished with decent ridiculousness .. but so beautiful. Made me fall in love with life.. Loved the colours .. the settings.. If you feel like every new movie is old before you even watch.. go watch this :) Especially if you are being introduced to African movies and movies about just life .. I loved Sphe and Zizwhe.

This was painful to watch, not funny at all and it is the same re-used materials and the same cast over and over again.
I want my 90 minutes back honestly.
At this point, if we keep watching these films, netflix will never take us seriously and make good representational films. They know we will eat this ish up no matter how nonsensical it is.
I cant recall the last time if ever Netflix made a decent South African film. Everytime i see a new film being released, I just know it is about some family feud or similar ish.
At this point, I blame myself for having hope that they will start actually writing mew scripts.
