Netflix’s True-Crime Shows Are Killing It: ‘Amy Bradley Is Missing’ & ‘The Son Of Sam Tapes’ Are Streamer’s Latest Hits
Image
True-crime is clearly a genre that shows no signs of dying.

Two more true-crime tales have entered this week’s Netflix’s top ten – Amy Bradley Is Missing and Conversations with a Killer: The Son of Sam Tapes – evidence that the streamer is continuing to mine new ground in a crowded marketplace.

Amy Bradley Is Missing, which tells the story of how the 23-year-old disappeared without a trace from the cruise ship she and her family were vacationing on, took the number three spot in television with another 4.2M views, just behind drama hits Untamed and The Hunting Wives.

Conversations with a Killer: The Son of Sam Tapes, which comes from Joe Berlinger, popped in at number four with 3.4M views in its premiere week.

These two shows join the likes of American Murder: Gabby Petito and Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer, which were two of the most-watched...

Netflix's Mystery Thriller Becomes Global Streaming Hit Less Than A Week After Debut
Image
Netflix's new murder mystery series Untamed has skyrocketed to the streamer's number 1 spot in both U.S. and global charts. After releasing on Thursday, July 17, 2025, the six-part miniseries has already amassed an enormous 24.6 million views before its opening week has even concluded.

Untamed is the second #1 hit Netflix series created by Mark. L Smith in 2025. Eric Bana leads the cast of Untamed as Kyle Turner, an Isb federal agent who investigates the mysterious death of a young girl in Yosemite National Park.

Untamed accrued just under 120 million views in only five days after it premiered on Netflix last week. Although Untamed was written as a miniseries, these massive streaming numbers suggest that it could evolve into an anthology series similar to True Detective.

Yellowstone's First Spin-Off Prequel With 89% Rt Finds Success on Streaming 4 Years After Its Release
Image
In 2018, Taylor Sheridan premiered the hit neo-Western drama Yellowstone, which ran for five seasons on Paramount until Dec. 2024. The original series was a major success, which later expanded into several spin-offs.

The franchise boasts star-studded names for all its projects, and it started with Western icon Kevin Costner, Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, and Wes Bentley. In 2021, the first prequel series, 1883, premiered. Almost four years later, 1883 has become a hit on Netflix, Tudum reports.

For the week of Mar. 10 and 16, Yellowstone's first prequel, 1883, made its debut on Netflix. Although it's not available on the streaming platform in the U.S., as Paramount Pictures streams it on its platform, Paramount+, the spinoff series became a hit globally.

The ten-episode spinoff received 2.9 million views globally, and reached the Top 10 in 34 countries across the world. It entered the Top 10 in seventh place, just ahead of Ms. Rachel Season 1, American Murder: Gabby Petito, and the limited series Toxic Town.

Streaming Ratings: ‘SNL’ Hits Charts After 50th Anniversary Special
Image
The big first-night audience for Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary special carried over to streaming the week after — giving the show its first-ever appearance on the Nielsen streaming charts.

SNL, which streams on Peacock, notched 863 million minutes of viewing in the United States for the week of Feb. 17-23. That was good for seventh place overall and third among library series. The show has an absurdly large library — 1,109 episodes spanning half a century — but Nielsen notes that 68 percent of viewing for the week was for episodes from the current season, including the anniversary special.

Netflix’s Zero Day and Prime Video’s Reacher finished first and second overall for the week after premiering on Feb. 20. Zero Day held a slight lead with 1.84 billion minutes of viewing to 1.81 billion for Reacher. Love Is Blind (1.42 billion minutes), Bluey (1.05 billion) and Family Guy (1.01 billion) also scored more than a billion viewing mintues.

The following article contains mild spoilers for Adolescence.

The most recent drama released on Netflix has climbed up the streaming charts, and it currently sits in the number one spot of the streamer's most popular TV shows. Adolescence, starring Stephen Graham and Owen Cooper, was released only a few days ago, and so far, the drama miniseries has captivated audiences nationwide with its realistic depiction of the aftermath of a crime. The four-episode miniseries sits above Netflix originals like Running Point, Zero Day, reality series Temptation Island and true crime docuseries American Murder: Gabby Petito.

Adolescence was created by Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham, and all episodes were directed by Philip Barantini. It takes place in real-time, and all four episodes are shot in a single take. Inside the Ratings: From ‘The Recruit’ to ‘FBI’ Spinoffs, Behind TV’s Surprise Cancellations
Image
Two decades ago, Nielsen overnight ratings were king, providing a comprehensive and succinct look at the biggest moments on TV, which, at the time, only existed on linear networks. Now, with streaming making viewing more fragmented than ever, linear ratings just don’t have the same weight as they used to. Nielsen and Netflix have embraced weekly top 10 streaming charts along with a bi-annual Netflix data dump to give a fuller picture of the streaming landscape, while other streamers mostly keep their numbers to themselves.

Faced with that complicated, choose-your-own-yardstick environment, this weekly column will try to make sense of the dizzying array of viewing metrics and offer context on what can be considered a “ratings win” today.

This week, we dive into the recent cancellation of Alexi Hawley’s “The Recruit,” among others that came as a surprise to many fans. Dissecting the numbers, though — as this column will...

Netflix's New True Crime Doc About Charles Manson Has a Solid Debut in Streaming Charts
Image
Netflix has scored another point in the game of notable true-crime documentaries. The latest true-crime documentary to be released by the platform, Chaos: The Manson Murders, sits in the third spot on Netflix's list of most-watched movies at the time of writing.

Chaos: The Manson Murders presents an alternative theory to the widely known story about the murders that took place in the span of two days in August 1969. The Tate–Labianca murders resulted in the deaths of seven people in Los Angeles, California. They were perpetrated by several members of the Manson Family, the cult-like group led by Charles Manson.

The film is directed by documentary filmmaker Errol Morris, who goes on a dive into the theory presented by investigative reporter Tom O'Neill. O'Neill's theories were included in his book Chaos: Charles Manson, the CIA, and the Secret History of the Sixties (co-written with Dan Piepenbring), and in his version,...

Oscars Telecast Dominates Linear, but Nominated Films Are Absent From Streaming Top 10 | Chart
Image
This week’s Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report presents an interesting juxtaposition. The Oscars telecast, on Sunday, March 2, was far and away the most-watched linear program of the week, with 13.1 million households tuning in. While that celebration of movies drew massive viewership, the nominated movies themselves were not big draws over on streaming, where many are currently available across a variety of services.

During the weekend of the Oscars, Feb. 28 to March 2, the most-viewed Best Picture nominee was “A Complete Unknown,” was seen in 182,000 households, likely aided by its Feb. 25 launch on VOD. Meanwhile, eventual Best Picture winner “Anora” was seen in 82,000 households, placing it fifth among the nine nominees.

Now, many of these films may have been seen in theatres during their initial release, and some can expect a bump in the weeks to come. But the main story on streaming this week is TV series, which hold eight of the 10 spots.

Last week’s streaming chart had a very clear theme: in the week of Valentine’s Day, viewers were choosing Netflix and chill. Yet there was a big debut missing from the chart: the HBO/Max hit “The White Lotus,” which premiered on Sunday, Feb. 16.

“The White Lotus” viewers must have been busy that Sunday night, because they caught up in a big way. With a full week of viewership under its belt, “The White Lotus” is the most-watched streaming program on the latest Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report.

Coming in at No. 2 this week is the Netflix true-crime doc “American Murder: Gabby Petito,” as a deep-dive into the case that gripped the country. It’s followed by “Zero Day,” a conspiracy thriller series starring Robert De Niro. The new Netflix original drew big viewership numbers, with 2.1 million U.S. households watching in the first four days it was available...

Huge changes in Netflix top five movies and shows for week to Feb 26, 2025
Image
There are lots of changes from last week's top five lists of most viewed shows and movies on Netflix. The latest details are now on Tudum and reveal eight new entries across the two lists. Time then to take a closer look at whats new and the two that remained.

With lots of movies being added over recent weeks and a few departing from the platform, some changes were almost inevitable. Though I didn't expect to see just one remain unchanged from last week. As is often the case, some favorite old characters make a reappearance, too.

Likewise, in terms of shows there were some big hitters arriving on our screens recently. That's definitely had an impact this week with just one remaining from the previous week. The list highlights the ongoing popularity of a docuseries to get behind a story we know and fits well alongside the demand for great drama and thrillers.

'Zero Hour's Producers and Robert De Niro Tease a Possible Season 2
Image
Robert De Niro's Zero Day is a certified global hit on Netflix, beating American Murder: Gabby Petito in many markets, and earning 19.1 million views. But the six-episode limited series told "a complete story," according to co-creator Noah Oppenheim, and was only intended to be a single season. Despite its terrible critical and audience ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, a hit is a hit, and now the producers and De Niro are teasing a possible Season 2.

In a recent interview, Oppenheim, De Niro and co-creators Eric Newman and Mike Schmidt said that while the political thriller was a "one-and-done," they have had conversations about continuing:

"I think we all feel like we have told what is right now a complete story. That being said, it’s a group of people that happen to like each other a great deal, and we all had a great experience making it. So Eric, and...

Robert De Niro's 'Zero Day' Has Become a Streaming Hit Despite Its Terrible Reviews
Image
Zero Day appears to be bulletproof to bad reviews. Robert De Niro's first ever TV series debuted on Feb. 20, 2025, and despite the critical drubbing, the political thriller is number one on Netflix's global chart, beating the smash hit American Murder: Gabby Petito. In the United States, it's second to the Gabby Petito three-part miniseries.

In the week since its release, Zero Day has been number one or in the Top 10 for Netflix around the world. However, critics weren't impressed with De Niro's small-screen debut. The show currently holds a 54% critical and 55% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It's a rarity when both critics and audiences agree on Rt. Interestingly, Zero Day is rated pretty good on IMDb with a 7 / 10 average rating based on over 14,000 reviews.

The 2025 SAG Awards failed to crack into Netflix’s Top 10 TV programs for the week.

The livestream of the awards show, which streamed Sunday, Feb. 23, was not included in the streamer’s Top 10 viewership list for the week of Feb. 17, meaning that viewership for the SAG Awards was exceeded by the Feb. 17 installment of WWE’s Monday Night Raw, which took the No. 10 spot on the TV list. While Netflix has not released exact viewing figures for the SAG Awards, it can be assumed the show saw less than the 2.8 million views seen by Raw.

Last year’s SAG Awards, which marked the first time Netflix livestreamed the ceremony, similarly did not rank within the Top 10 TV shows for that week.

Robert De Niro Talks About the Difficulties of Making 'Zero Day'
Image
Robert De Niro's new Netflix series, Zero Day, had its debut on Feb. 20, 2025. After decades of starring in some of the most acclaimed and popular movies of all time, the Oscar winner has finally made the leap to television. But it hasn't been easy stepping into the world of TV series, according to the actor.

De Niro explained to The Wrap that production on Zero Day was like making "three feature films back to back," and had a "very strict" schedule when compared to other films he's worked on.

"It was different than a feature, especially than with certain directors that I’ve worked with, but it was good. It’s just another structure, if you will."

But for the star, he wanted a project that would allow him to stay in New York for five to six months. A film would last two to three months, so a...

Netflix Doc Reveals That Gabby Petito Called an Ex-Boyfriend for Comfort Hours Before Her Death

It’s been three and a half years since Gabby Petito made headlines around the world after she vanished during a cross-country road trip she was taking with her fiance Brian Laundrie. Now, a new three-part docuseries, “American Murder: Gabby Petito,” goes beyond the headlines to reveal the reality of a 22-year-old woman enmeshed in an abusive relationship.

After Petito disappeared in August 2021, Laundrie returned to his parents’ house in North Port, Fla., where he refused to discuss Petito’s whereabouts. Laundrie’s refusal to speak to the police caused a media firestorm, which escalated when Petito’s body was found in Wyoming’s Bridger-Teton National Forest on Sept. 19, 2021.
