George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) is the fourth installment in the post-apocalyptic action movie franchise Mad Max. Australian filmmaker George Miller and Australian producer Byron Kennedy initiated the Mad Max Franchise in 1979. Made on a budget of $350,000, the first Mad Max movie collected over $100 million globally, making it one of the most profitable films ever made. Fury Road was first conceived as an idea in 1987, after the release of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985).

But it was stuck in the development hell for decades, and the production, after many hiccups, eventually started in 2012 with Miller recasting Mel Gibson’s titular role – Max Rockatansky – with Tom Hardy. Fury Road was a box-office success and got nominated for ten Academy Awards, winning six, including Best Editing. Editor Margaret Sixel had to go over 470 hours of footage to create the 120-minute running time of Fury Road.

CBS is making a change to its fall schedule.

Second-year drama Watson, which had been scheduled for a midseason start, will move up to the fall. It takes the place of CIA, an FBI spinoff that CBS ordered straight to series in April but now won’t be ready in time for a fall launch. CIA, from Dick Wolf’s Wolf Entertainment, Universal Television and CBS Studios, is also changing showrunners: Warren Leight (Law & Order: Svu) is taking over from FBI: Most Wanted’s David Hudgins.

A writers room for CIA is at work, but casting for other roles around lead Tom Ellis hasn’t begun yet. Filming is slated to begin in early fall.

Weeks before filming was due to begin, director Guy Ritchie has left the production of the Jake Gyllenhaal-starring action sequel, Road House 2, reports suggest.

Despite some rather public disagreements behind the scenes, the 2024 remake of Road House – an action thriller vehicle for Jake Gyllenhaal – was a streaming success for Amazon MGM. As a result, the studio fast-tracked a sequel, albeit one without the first film’s director, Doug Liman (more on him shortly).

The prolific British filmmaker Guy Ritchie was announced as Road House 2′s director in May – a logical enough choice, given that several of his recent movies have been distributed by Amazon MGM – Wrath Of Man, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant and The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare being among them.

Just a couple of months after Ritchie was attached to Road House 2, however, comes word that he’s left again.

The Irish government has confirmed the 8% uplift in its Section 481 film tax incentive can now be claimed, aimed at supporting local feature films with Irish creative talent that are budgeted up to €20m (£16.7m).

The uplift was first announced in October 2024, however was subject to European Union state aid approval, and was signed into Irish legislation last week.

To qualify for the 40% tax relief, in addition to the existing Section 481 requirements, films must also haveone of the key creative roles of film director, screenwriter, composer, editor, cinematographer and production designer be a national of, or ordinarily resident in Ireland or the European Economic Area.

Her inability to mesh with the gatekeepers of the James Bond movies might well have sealed her fate. While her exit from the executive suites officially is being regarded as an exit by choice into a producing deal, sources in town say it is closer to a firing.

Kick has launched a contest that will grant financial rewards to streamers who could really use the boost. Creators who average fewer than 100 concurrent viewers over a 30-day period are eligible to enter Kick Road, an initiative that boasts $50,000 in total prizes.

Signups are currently open for Kick Road, which will kick off on April 2. From that date until May 23, Kick will track viewership for participating streamers via a leaderboard powered by Streams Charts. At the end of that period, the streamer with the most watch time across the Irl, Just Chatting, Grand Theft Auto roleplay, Call of Duty, Art, and Live Music categories will bag the $20,000 grand prize. George Miller is flirting with the idea of taking another trip down Fury Road.

Following his 2015 franchise reboot Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) and last year’s Furiosa prequel, the Oscar winner recently revealed he has another installment he’d like to make “if for whatever reason the planets align,” but he has a few other projects on deck.

“We’ve got another script,” he told Vulture of his Mad Max plans. “But having been doing this long enough where I’m habituated to storytelling, I find myself with way too many stories — not only in my head, but in the form of screenplays or at least very detailed notes that are within reach of screenplays. I’m a professional daydreamer, really. This was seen as my big deficit as a kid: ‘George would do better at school if he didn’t daydream so much’ was on my report card.”
