Every major Game of Thronesactor worked their way through a major arc, especially if their character stuck around for all eight seasons, but Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister is an especially interesting role to track. Cole becomes Chief Creative Officer of BBC Studios Fiction and will simultaneously continue running BBC Studios Comedy Productions. He has hired Time execs Andrew Morrissey and Michael Parke as Creative Directors to help steer BBC Studios Fiction, which will be based out of London, Liverpool and Glasgow. Morrissey and Parke are bringing their current slate of projects with them and their BBC Studios-backed River Pictures indie has been shuttered.

The idea for BBC Studios Fiction had been percolating for some time, Cole told us, and is a response to a market in which scripted shows with comedic elements such as Death Valley, Ludwig, Black Ops and Good Omens are performing well, some of which are made by BBC Studios Comedy Productions.

“This is an evolution and expansion of what we’re already doing,” he said.

The hike is already in effect for new customers and will roll out in September for existing subscribers. However, everyone can lock in the lower annual rate now.

Apple TV+ has unveiled first-look images from Season 2 of its comedy series, “Palm Royale,” starring Kristen Wiig and Laura Dern.

The series returns on Wednesday, Nov. 12, followed by weekly airings until Jan. 14, 2026. In addition to Wiig and Dern, the cast includes Allison Janney, Leslie Bibb, Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, Amber Chardae Robinson, Kaia Gerber and Carol Burnett.

The Irish Film and Television Academy has chosen Ireland’s official entry for the international feature film category of the next Academy Awards.

“Sanatorium,” the Irish-made, Ukrainian-language documentary, is set to represent the country at the 98th Oscars, following in the footsteps of last year’s “Kneecap,” which was shortlisted, and 2003’s “The Quiet Girl,” which became the first film submitted by Ireland to be nominated.

The feature debut of Galway-born filmmaker Gar O’Rourke, “Sanatorium” takes a vivid look at at Kuyalnik Sanatorium, a large 1970s building near Odessa in southern Ukraine, where a small group searches for love, healing and happiness and where mud treatments and Soviet-era therapies continue despite a war close by. The biggest attraction is the mysterious black mud, said to cure infertility, physical disabilities and various other ailments. The film had its world premiere at Cph:dox in Copenhagen in their main international competition, Dox:award, in late March.

James Norton has officially stepped into the world of Westeros. The actor, known from shows like Happy Valley, was spotted on the set of House of the Dragon Season 3 for the first time.

He was seen filming an emotional scene alongside Matt Smith, who plays Daemon Targaryen. According to Splash News, Norton’s character, Lord Ormund Hightower, was seen surrendering his sword and kneeling before Daemon.

Dressed in full costume, Norton looked every inch the proud lord forced into submission.

Norton was confirmed to have joined the cast back in January 2025, when HBO announced he would play Lord Ormund Hightower.

Early in their investigation into the death of an unidentified woman, Isb officer Kyle Turner (Eric Bana) and park ranger Naya Vasquez (Lily Santiago) discover a few clues in an eerie abandoned shed. There’s a bloody rope laying on the floor, a footprint on the door, and fresh carvings in the rickety wooden walls. Kyle bags the evidence, photographs the etchings, and the two exchange theories about what may have happened here. Then, as Naya heads back outside, a bear slams into the door. Naya falls down as the bear bangs on the thin wood separating it from its prey, roaring in sudden, vicious fury. She scrambles for her sidearm, but Kyle already has gun out. He fires two shots into the air, and the bear runs off.

Not long after that random disturbance, Kyle reminds his rookie colleague that her new gig isn’t like any work she did in the big city.

The BBC has revealed the first photos from the upcoming four-part thriller The Guest, starring Gabrielle Creevy, Eve Myles, Sion Daniel Young, and Emun Elliott. The series is written, created, and executive-produced by the multi-award-winning writer Matthew Barry (Men Up).

A24 has strengthened its U.K. office with another poaching of senior executives from the local industry.

Laura Lankester and Will Johnston, co-CEOs of Lookout Point, the BBC Studios-owned company that has produced a raft of prestige dramas such as “Les Miserables,” “A Suitable Boy,” “War & Peace,” “Gentleman Jack,” “Renegade Nell” and the final season of “Happy Valley,” are set to join A24 as it looks to grow its international TV operations.

The two bolster a team in the U.K. led by Piers Wenger and Rose Garnett, who themselves were hired from the BBC in a major coup back in 2022.

Based in London, Lankester and Johnston will leave their current roles at the production company behind BBC/AMC’s Happy Valley and Disney+ show Renegade Nell and join A24’s UK team leaders Piers Wenger and Rose Garnett.

The new arrivals will continue to produce and deliver Netflix’s Pride And Prejudice adaptation for Lookout Point and BBC Studios. Lankester will also oversee BritBox’s Tommy And Tuppence for Lookout Point and Bbcs.

A24 has signed up two of Britain’s hottest TV drama producers as it moves to expand its international small-screen output.

The hip producer and distributor on Wednesday unveiled that it was adding Laura Lankester and Will Johnston to its U.K. team, joining former BBC executives Piers Wenger and Rose Garnett.

Lankester and Johnston will exit their current roles as co-CEOs of Lookout Point to work with Wenger and Garnett to “expand, shape, and grow the studio’s global television slate,” A24 said in a statement.

The pair has worked with writer Sally Wainwright on some of the most acclaimed British television of the last decade, including Happy Valley, Gentleman Jack, and Last Tango in Halifax, and Renegade Nell, as well as on Andrew Davies’ adaptation of Vikram Seth’s A Suitable Boy. They are currently in production, with BBC Studios, on a new adaptation of Pride and Prejudice for Netflix.

Exclusive: Tommy and Tuppence, Agatha Christie’s crime-fighting couple, are returning to the screen.

BritBox has greenlit a six-part series that will reimagine Tommy and Tuppence Beresford in the modern world, more than a century after they first appeared together in Christie’s The Secret Adversary.

The series will be made by Lookout Point, the UK producer behind Happy Valley. Phoebe Eclair-Powell (The Road Trip) has penned the drama, her first series commission for television.

Casting for Tommy & Tuppence, which is produced in association with Agatha Christie Limited, is yet to be confirmed. Filming gets underway later this year.

Tapping into the cosy crime phenomenon, the series will be set in Hampstead, a leafy and affluent corner of north London, which will become the scene of murder and mystery.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about Adam and Aimee Lou. He was cast in her new series Film Club late last year, and they spent a few months filming from 2024-2025. Aimee Lou wrote it, and Adam is one of the show’s stars. It’s expected to debut on BBC iPlayer and BBC Three later this year.

Studiocanal has shuttered Red Production Company, the U.K. production outfit behind “It’s a Sin” and “Happy Valley,” Variety has confirmed.

Acquired in 2013 by Studiocanal as part of its big move into the television landscape, Red Production was founded Nicola Shindler and Andrew Critchley. Since 2023, the company was led by Patrick Schweitzer who stepped down last week. Red Production’s 12-people staff across London and Manchester have been trimmed, according to Broadcast which first reported the news.

Red Production’s popular IP’s include “Happy Valley,” “It’s a Sin,” as well as “Queer as Folk,” “Scott & Bailey” and “Last Tango in Halifax.” Studiocanal’s new executive managing director of TV series, M-k Kennedy, who joined from Netflix last year, has been listed as director of Red Production on Companies House, the U.K.’s exec agency of the business and trade department, which suggests that the ongoing projects will be handled internally by Studiocanal.

“Whenever I work, I’m like, ‘This will be the last time you do that,'” Jake Dunn laughs. “I just can’t believe it.”

His candid disbelief is no surprise when the Nottingham-born star, fresh out of drama school, went straight into filming a Sally Wainwright show. Dunn might be best known to viewers as Thomas in Renegade Nell, Disney+‘s fantasy adventure penned by the Happy Valley creator, which was canceled after one season last year.

“It does give you an understanding,” Dunn continues, “of when something is fizzing and exciting versus when something maybe doesn’t have that same impact on first read.” The 25-year-old would know better than a lot of people — he’s also worked on Jack Rook’s Big Boys, Nick Hamm’s historical epic William Tell and now turns to the BBC Three’s millennial coming-of-age drama based on the memoir by transgender journalist Paris Lees.

Chief executive Patrick Schweitzer has exited the business and it is understood that its other London and Manchester-based staff have been let go at the same time.

Schweitzer, who had been in position since September 2023 left last week and his departure coincided with the UK business effectively halting operations. House of the Dragon began in 2022 and after two seasons, it has received praise for its production, story, and cast performances. And while not every moment from the series has been universally lauded, HBO can still consider this series a hit.
