Inspector Adamsberg worked with Franck Mathieu in the past on a complex case involving a serial killer. When Mathieu contacted him about a strange murder in Louviec, Brittany, Adamsberg didn't hesitate to act. In the name of their friendship, he sets off with his team to help Mathieu.

Adamsberg and Mathieu know that the gamekeeper was the victim of a serial killer. They still need to discover the psychopath's motive if they want to give themselves a chance of apprehending him before he can cause further harm by committing other crimes. It appears that the key to the enigma lies in the region's folklore. To immerse himself in the murderer's state of mind, Adamsberg begins to meditate, lying on a dolmen, hoping that the ancient stones, steeped in history and magic, will provide him with the answers to his questions. He might well be granted an intuition that seems to come from elsewhere.
