Director Atlee’s “Jawan,” starring Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, is the highest grossing Indian film of the year with $138.6 million. With 91%, it has also become the first Indian film to surpass the 90% level critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, above Karan Johar’s “Rocky aur Rani kii Prem Kahaani” (88%) and Khan’s own “Pathaan” (83%).

Shah Rukh Khan’s action thriller “Jawan” has shattered the star’s own Bollywood opening day record.

“Jawan” is produced by Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma for Red Chillies Entertainment. It opened on Thursday and its Hindi-language version grossed $9.4 million in India, with a further $1.3 million from Tamil and Telugu-language dubbed versions, according to numbers provided to Variety by Red Chillies. Including overseas collections, “Jawan” enjoyed a $15.6 million opening day.

Shah Rukh Khan’s “Pathaan,” which released in January, was the previous record holder for a Hindi-language film, grossing $8.32 million in India and a further $4.5 million in overseas territories on its first day in cinemas, for a worldwide gross total of $12.7 million.

“Jawan” is directed by Atlee, who previously delivered a trio of Tamil-language blockbusters starring Vijay – “Theri” (2016), “Mersal” (2017) and “Bigil” (2019). The “Jawan” cast also includes Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Priyamani, Sanya Malhotra and Ridhi Dogra, with Deepika Padukone in a cameo.

"It's better to have short-term goals because they are usually achievable. I don't believe in New Year resolutions...one can easily get distracted or leave it midway," Arya told Ians.

Chennai, Nov 5: A.R. Murugadoss, co-producer of Tamil romantic-drama "Raja Rani" has refuted rumours that the film is being remade in Telugu. He says he is only planning to dub it.

"The Telugu dubbed version will hit the screens soon. The news about the film being remade in Telugu is baseless. It's a film for youngsters as well as family audiences, and therefore, I'm hoping it will be received very well in Telugu as well," Murugadoss told Ians.

"Raja Rani" reportedly minted over Rs.20 crore in the first two weeks of its release worldwide. It was adjudged a super-hit at the box office.

"We were positive about the film right from the day one of shooting, but I didn't think it will turn out to be the biggest hit in my career. I'm extremely happy with the response to the film. I have been told that family audiences are watching it even on weekdays," Arya told Ians.
