One Piece Spinoff Anime Set To Release On Netflix In January

One Piece's prequel Monsters, the first one-shot manga from Eiichiro Oda, will be released as an anime in January 2024, exciting fans who crave more One Piece-related content. The Monsters anime will explore the legend of Ryuma, a legendary swordsman from One Piece's history, and will be directed by Park Sung Hoo, known for Jujutsu Kaisen and One Piece: Z. Monsters will be available to stream on Netflix internationally and on Prime Video and Netflix for Japanese viewers, featuring experienced veterans in art, music, and animation to ensure its quality.

Evangelion 3.0 Earns 5.1 Billion Yen/Us$56 Million
As of Sunday, the Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo (Evangelion Shin Gekijō-ban Q) film has earned 5,143,875,650 yen (Us$56,414,427) since the film opened on November 17th, 2012. The film rose from #14 to #10 during its 11th weekend and has sold a total of 3,731,375 tickets. The film expanded to 94 theaters on Saturday; of those 94, 85 are newly added theaters.

The film temporarily held the record for highest weekend box office earnings of 2012 before being overtaken by One Piece Film Z, which ranked at #6 this past weekend and has earned 6,493,154,400 yen (Us$71,306,523) and sold 5,368,560 tickets.

Still no official 2013 release date for Evangelion 4.0, so stay tuned!

One Piece Film Z and Tie-In Specials’ Ads Aired
This past weekend, a new commercial began airing in Japan for the upcoming One Piece Film Z and the tie-in television anime special One Piece Episode of Luffy: The Hand Island Adventure (One Piece Episode of Luffy: Hand Island no Bōken) that comes in December, as we earlier reported. The song “Bad Reputation” by Canadian singer Avril Lavigne is featured in the ad and the special’s original characters: the wax craftsman Diego and his only son Regis (a Portuguese name pronounced in “Hejisu” in Japanese). Check them out after the jump.

Both the film and the special will debut on Saturday, December 15th. (The One Piece TV anime series normally airs on Sunday mornings.)

One Piece Anime’s New Luffy Special to Air in December
Fuji TV announced last week that a television anime special, One Piece Episode of Luffy: Hand Island no Bōken (One Piece Episode of Luffy: The Hand Island Adventure), will air on Saturday, December 15th, 2012 at 9:00pm. (The One Piece television anime series normally airs on Sunday mornings.)

This Hand Island no Bōken special is separate from the four consecutive television episodes that will start airing on December 2nd with a tie-in story to the upcoming One Piece Film Z. (The film will also open on December 15th, 2012.)

As in the film, original manga creator Eiichiro Oda is supervising the Hand Island no Bōken special with its new story. Hiroyuki Morita and Mitsuru Hongo are co-directing the special, and singer/designer Shizuka Kudou is collaborating with Oda on the costume designs.

Punk princess Avril Lavigne is set to cover a Nickelback song for an upcoming anime film soundtrack.

NME reports that Lavigne will cover Nickelback's "How You Remind Me" for the new anime film "One Piece Film Z," which is part of the "One Piece" manga film series. The song was originally sung by Lavigne's fiance, Chad Kroeger.

"How You Remind Me" was released in 2001 and was Nickelback's break-out single off the group's "Silver Side Up" album. Kroeger wrote the song about his ex-girlfriend Jodi, he told MTV in 2003.

The "One Piece" series, originally created by Eiichiro Oda in 1997, is the best-selling manga series of all time, with 67 volumes and 300 million copies of comics sold worldwide, according to the Guardian.

Lavigne's cover of "Bad Reputation" by Joan Jett will also be featured on the soundtrack, according to NME via Anime News Network.

Avril Lavigne has reportedly recorded a cover of one her fiance's best-known songs. Two months after she announced her engagement to Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger, Lavigne has made a version of How You Remind Me for the soundtrack of an upcoming anime movie.

Lavigne will offer her track to One Piece Film Z, an upcoming adaptation of the manga series One Piece. Created by Eiichiro Oda in 1997, it is the bestselling manga series of all time: its 67 volumes of comics have sold around 300m copies, and there have been 11 movie adaptations so far.

This year’s 47th issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is announcing on Monday that Canadian singer Avril Lavigne is contributing two theme songs for this year’s One Piece Film Z film.

For the first time in the anime franchise, this next film will have two theme songs of its own: “How You Remind Me” and “Bad Reputation.

According to the magazine, Lavigne herself is a fan of One Piece, and One Piece manga creator Eiichiro Oda is similarly a fan of Lavigne’s music. After an exchange of letters and music between the two sides, the arrangement for the two theme songs were made.
