Our Christmas Love Story

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and couldn't wait to share with my family and friends! They enjoyed as well! It felt as if we were sitting there on the couch with them waiting for the recounting of this ever so fabulous love story! The characters had so much depth I really felt as if I knew them! The script was so true to life, I felt that I was in the story! So many beautiful messages in the story and so naturally delivered! I never felt like there was any preaching or looking down the nose, etc.... Even the Mom who carried her Bible everywhere spoke truth without it seeming like preaching. Oh and the acting was superb!

This movie has lots of laughs and a good plot. You'll enjoy seeing this holiday movie which is perfect for this time of the year. The only reservation is that occasionally the sound distorts. The actors deliver good performances with good performances all around from Kendyl McCray, Reggie Gaskins, Stephanie Charles, Tremayne Norris, seasoned actress Shelly Robertson, Rosetta Tate, Berlinda Fruge, Brandon Larkins, Di Smith, and Shanequa Reed. Reggie Gaskins does triple duty as the writer, director and main actor. His comedic performance really nails the comedy in this movie. I recommend taking a loot at another movie by him titled "The Lying Truth".

I randomly came across this movie one Saturday night (I think it was Dec 10th) on a religious channel. I had originally planned on watching Home Alone, but I got so absorbed into this that I watched it all the way to the end. Although I do like Home Alone, it's still a typical Hollywood film of the late 20th century. Once the Golden Age of Cinema ended, movies were no longer wholesome and started conveying negative messages. Home Alone starts out with kids being rude to one another, then a kid is rude to their parent (there's a scene where the boy, the main character, calls his mom a dummy. If he was my child, he would've been picking his teeth up off the floor), and there aren't any consequences or lessons learned when it's all said and done. The only reason the movie is funny is because the kid sets various traps for a couple of burglars. Otherwise, when you take all of that away, it's just a film about a rich, dysfunctional family who's going to spend their Christmas in Europe, and they happen to be white. If they were black and dysfunctional, there's no way the movie would've became popular. As a black woman who's young and a Christian, I can identify with the characters in Our Christmas Love Story so much more than Home Alone. Plus I'm not even a fan of romance movies, but I thought it was so endearing! Even if you take race out of the equation, it's realistic in its portrayal of what it's like to date as a God fearing man or woman in modern society. But if you're going to examine the topic from a racial perspective, the main character's feelings resonated with me because I'm cynical when it comes to men, and I think it comes from the simple fact of who I am. As a black woman, my experiences with men are different from women of other races. Either they act creepy towards me, or as they get to know me over time, they give off the impression that they find my intelligence threatening (pardon me for reading so much). I thought this movie was highly inspirational. Kendyl McCray plays Daphne, a beautiful woman who is dealing with the emotional pain of a failed relationship. She's put up a wall around herself, until she meets Trent (Reggie Gaskins). After several encounters where she acts standoffish, towards the end of the film he prays with her, and she's so moved by his prayer, that she finally realizes he's the man God placed in her life to marry. Daphne's friend Michelle (Stephanie Charles) is having boyfriend problems, and starting to lose hope, so Daphne and Trent spend the evening telling her the story of how they met each other. If you love Christian films and the holiday season, I recommend adding this to your Christmas movie collection.

This movie was so well acted and hilarious. I was sold the first few minutes it came on when Reggie and Kendyl came to the door for a Christmas party. I was genuinely impressed that the acting was this good. I didn't know what to expect but it just was a great film. The comedic timing and was so good I slid down my chair laughing. That is rare for me. The whole cast did really well. It was funny and relatable in a sense that I have heard the dialogue in the movie in real life observing other people. I had a couple flash backs myself of scenes that reminded me of my past. Great job and Great Movie!

I really loved this movie! It started out hilarious! I mean I was splitting my side laughing. I love the character Trent! He was so funny. His facial expressions were priceless. I also loved the Daphne character, the main female character. She too had priceless creative expressions, I loved her diction and the way she spoke, and just the overall character was brilliant. Daphne's family both the sister and the mom were brilliant and very convincing given their roles in the movie. I was especially taken in by the mother's role played by the beautiful Shelley Robinson. Also, kudos to the beautiful Stephanie Charles for her portrayal of Michelle. Kendyl McCray portraying Daphne was extra special. She was witty, gorgeous, her smile was contagious and her acting skills were bar to none other! Bravo! This film was a Christmas hit. It hit all the marks; it was funny, it was a beautiful love story, it had emotional moments, it was believable, and all in all it checked all the boxes for me. It was also a Black film. That was a plus for me. Congratulations to the entire cast for a job well done!! Thank you for this beautiful Christmas gift.
