Great show and documentary on the lost Colony with a better cast of scientists. Has some enlightening evidence. Will enjoy a second watch of this. This is the stuff I was taught in grades school too bad they don't teach it today!!!
This is supposed to be a history program, however, everything is called into question for me when you mention Queen Elizabeth I (one of the most iconic people of all time) and show a picture of MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS! They don't even look remotely similar. If you get that wrong, how can I trust ANYTHING in this program? This is like mentioning Beyonce and flashing a picture of Lady Gaga...they're both singers but there ends the similarity.....
How does this get by fact checkers, editors, screeners? They showed other pictures of Queen Elizabeth I that were correct. It's just shocking to me that a program which talks not only about history but also about education can be so sloppy. For shame!
A group of archaeologists and volunteers try to dig for the lost colony of Roanoke. The Croatan legend invokes a story of natives massacring stranded white settlers in the lost earliest colony. This is a two-episode TV show. It really needs to lay out the mainstream understanding of the legend. Not everybody is familiar with the story or its use by unsavory aspects of white power establishments. Instead, this is left to the second episode and the closing part of the show. As for the archaeology, it does provide some interesting insights but nothing that definitively overturns the legend or rewrite history. It's another piece in the world of incremental archaeology.
As an OBXer, I found the part about the colony moving to Hatteras Island very interesting! All the artifacts they found were pretty cool, but I knew that Tudor Rose would be the ONE as soon as he saw it. I really do hope the Croatoan Tribe does get their name untarnished in the future. I do believe they helped the settlement and I think this dig on Hatteras is proof. Unfortunately, I also believe much is lost in the sea after over 430 years. Maybe there is a survivors camp near Frisco? I hope they find the owner of the golf course land so they can find out one day soon. Keep digging guys, we wanna know!

An excellent documentary that brings the rigor of British field research to a key historical event in world history. Much of what happened with the British colonies in North America is tied to the story of the Lost Colony. Much of the story in history books is clouded with inaccuracies that served the purposes of people of the past. Bringing state of the art British personnel and methods to North America was exactly what was needed to find real facts of what happened. The film makers also did a great job of capturing the culture of the North Carolina Outer Banks along with making a good science documentary. Thank You!
