When it comes to sequels, Walt Disney Studios is no stranger to second installments, which have come in many forms over the years. These days, you will often see them debuting on the big screen or occasionally launching on Disney+. In the 1990s, there was an onslaught of direct-to-video sequels that dominated sales, and the 2000s saw a handful of now-beloved movies dropping on the Disney Channel. No matter how they were released, or if they are animated or live-action, there are many fan-favorite Disney sequels to choose from.

In an era where superheroes clash in PG-13 spectacles and animated adventures tackle mature themes like grief and identity, one can’t help but wonder: has Disney abandoned the innocent G rating that defined its golden age?
With recent hits like Moana 2 (2024) and Wish (2023) earning PG stamps for mild peril and thematic elements, the Mouse House seems to favor slightly edgier fare. But fear not, family film buffs—Disney Plus is a treasure trove of G-rated classics, from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) to Winnie the Pooh (2011).

It’s been a long few months for Bridgerton fans. The early months of the year brought about a wave of updates on the fourth season, thanks in large part to Netflix’s Valentine’s Day Bridgerton event. This included our first look at the upcoming fourth season as well as a wave of updates on where the season will take us and what we can expect.
In the months since, we’ve gotten a few updates here and there. However, it’s been relatively quiet since the show wrapped filming in late June. Well, that has finally changed!

Simon Kinberg's action thriller with a 24% Rotten Tomatoes score has become a Netflix hit. Though his first screenwriting credits were XXX: State of the Union and Mr and Mrs. Smith (both 2005), Kinberg rose to prominence writing and producing several films for the X-Men franchise, including Last Stand (2006), First Class (2011), Days of Future Past (2014), and Apocalypse (2016).
In addition to X-Men, Kinberg has written or produced several other notable films, some of which were also for 20th Century Fox, including Sherlock Holmes (2009), Elysium (2013), Fantastic Four, Cinderella, Chappie (all 2015), and Murder on the Orient Express (2017). Kinberg also produced Ridley Scott's The Martian, for which he earned an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.

Starring Riz Ahmed and Lily James, the gripping, intense suspense thriller Relay, releases on August 22nd. Even before I go into details, with no spoilers, I have to say this is a film you do not want to miss.
Directed by David Mackenzie, this cool thriller is full of taut tension, suspense, and mystery from the very first moment, and it never really lets up. It is brilliantly written, terrifically paced, and outstandingly performed. But more on that in a few lines. First, let’s set the scene.
In Relay, Riz Ahmed plays a world-class “fixer” who specializes in brokering lucrative payoffs between corrupt corporations and the individuals, whistleblowers, who threaten their ruin.

James Gunn’s DC Universe presents new and returning characters in Peacemaker Season 2. It’s been a long time since fans have joined the eponymous antihero in his adventures, but they won’t have to wait any longer as the show will premiere this August 21.

Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty aren’t the only ones looking for a prince.
Leadership at Walt Disney Studios has been pressing Hollywood creatives in recent months, multiple sources tell Variety, for movies that will bring young men back to the brand in a meaningful way. “Young men” is defined here by sources as ages 13-28, aka Gen Z.
First, duh. Every film studio is looking for better ways to convert young audiences into habitual moviegoers. Numerous studies show that Gen Z men in particular are a lonely, gaming-obsessed group who were hampered in their formative years by Covid-19 lockdowns — not the easiest segment to grasp. But what’s surprising producers, writers and other partners in the larger industry is that Disney has been calling for original concepts to lure the demo back to the movies.

Disney is an undeniable juggernaut in the entertainment industry, especially when it comes to iconic animated films and its Disney Princesses. The Walt Disney Studios company has created many magical adaptations of popular fairy tales, and many became extremely popular, so it decided to modernize them with live-action adaptations.
The early attempts worked better than expected, like 2015's Cinderella or 2017's Beauty and the Beast, but not every live-action remake turned out to be a hit. 2025's Snow White was among the flops, as it was shrouded in controversy from its casting to its release. In a new appearance on The A Talks program, via Deadline, Gal Gadot, who played the Evil Queen, blamedSnow White's flopping in theaters because of the "pressure on celebrities to speak out against Israel."

Chris Hemsworth's submarine thriller, Subversion, casts its female lead in the form of an Emmy-nominated star. Earlier this year, it was announced that Hemsworth would be starring in a submarine action thriller for Amazon MGM Studios, directed by Patrick Vollrath, whose debut feature was the plane hijack thriller 7500, with a script written by Andrew Ferguson, known only for the short film Love Thy Neighbor.
The film follows a once-promising Naval commander (played by Chris Hemsworth) who is coerced by a cartel-style operation into captaining a submarine smuggling illegal cargo through international waters. Forced into a deadly game of cat and mouse, he must outmaneuver naval blockades and navigate several threats lurking both inside the vessel and beyond its hull.
Now, several months after it was first announced, Hemsworth's submarine thriller has found its female lead. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Subversion has cast Lily James in a lead role.

There was a time in the 1990s when Pamela Anderson was one of the most famous people on the face of the planet. Thanks to her breakout role on "Baywatch" and her brief but memorable time on the hit sitcom "Home Improvement," Anderson shot to fame like a rocket, even reaching true global superstardom levels when she married rock drummer Tommy Lee of Motley Crue fame. That whole saga, and the infamous leaked sex tape that followed, was previously documented in the 2022 Hulu miniseries "Pam & Tommy," which was met with a great deal of acclaim. Beyond the Gates sees Eva Thomas (Ambyr Michelle) versus Katherine “Kat” Richardson (Colby Muhammad) situation. We’re going to discuss who is the real bad girl on Btg between these two. Who’s the real she villain in this?
Beyond the Gates:
So, we all know Kat grew up with everything, including a really good mom and dad, Dr. Nicole Dupree Richardson (Daphnee Duplaix) and Dr. Ted Richardson (Maurice Johnson). But let’s face it, when you grow up like that, you don’t always turn out as a humble person. Kat is a spoiled brat beyond a doubt. I don’t think that she’s ever gone without one thing that she’s ever needed.
I don’t think she’s ever gone without one thing she’s ever wanted. You know, lucky her. And this issue that’s cropped up with Ted and Nicole, and Dana “Leslie...

Stick tells the story of optimistic ex-professional golfer Pryce Cahill (Owen Wilson), who might be good friends with one Ted Lasso if they ever overlapped in their sports worlds.
Hailing from creator Jason Keller, the Apple TV+ series premiered early June with the first three episodes, watching Pryce reluctantly let his ex-wife Amber Linn (Judy Greer) sell their former house before he decides to bet on teen Santiago Wheeler, who has the swing of a golf pro, and take him to the big leagues along with his former caddy and friend Mitts (Marc Maron) and Santi’s mother Elena (Mariana Treviño).
Needle drops support Pryce’s positive thinking throughout the show, though there are more serious moments too. The opening credits song is performed by the band Caamp. Find the full soundtrack of Apple’s Stick below:

Goodspeed Musicals has announced a change to its 2025 season lineup. The previously scheduled highly anticipated world premiere of Mrs. Santa Claus, set to run from November 14 through December 28, will be replaced by a new production of White Christmas at the Goodspeed Opera House. Mrs. Santa Clauzse was based on the 1996 made-for-television film of the same name, which starred Angela Lansbury in the title role. Written by Mark Saltzman with music and lyrics by legendary composer Jerry Herman, the CBS film was heralded at the time as the first original musical written for television since Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella in 1957. Set in 1910, the story follows Anna Claus, who, feeling underappreciated at the North Pole, sets out on...

It's the movie that made little princesses everywhere want to lose a glass slipper in hopes of it being found by a charming prince. So many Cinderella films have been made, and many actresses have portrayed the princess, from Julie Andrews to Brandy. Both starred in Rodgers & Hammerstein's version based on the fairytale, and now a limited series from Skydance Television and Concord Originals has landed on Disney+.
Singer and actress Jennifer Lopezwill produce the series under her Nuyorican Productions banner. The project, which is currently in development, will be a musical series emphasizing Cinderella's fairy godparents' perspectives. Another “Cinderella” story is in the works at Disney, but this time from the perspective of the princess’ fairy godparents.
Based on the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical, the Disney+ limited series is under development from Skydance Television, Concord Originals and Nuyorican Productions with Jennifer Lopez attached to executive produce.
The fresh take on the 1957 musical version will be written by “The Baby-Sitters Club” creator Rachel Shukert, who is set to executive produce and serve as showrunner. She has also executive produced “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Glow” and “Nine Perfect Strangers.”
In addition to Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina will executive produce for Nuyorican Productions along with Sophia Dilley and Scott Pascucci for Concord Originals and Bill Bost.
The original musical version of the classic fairytale debuted in 1957 with Julie Andrews as the princess in the glass slippers. Later, a 1997 television remake starred Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as the Fairy Godmother.

Over the years, Cinderella has had many adaptations. The folk story of a young girl living in unfortunate circumstances and blessed with a life-changing decision after marrying has been around for centuries, although it's mostly famous thanks to the Disney adaptation.
Cinderella was adapted into opera, theater, musicals, films, and TV. Walt Disney entered the conversation in 1950, giving the character, who is now considered one of the Disney Princesses, her first adaptation. Jennifer Lopez has been interested in a new version of the story for years, and she is now partnering with Disney+ for a new version, Deadline reports.
Lopez has been attached to the limited series based on Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella since May 2022. The singer and actress' production company, Nuyorican Productions, was working with Skydance Television and Concord Originals. The same production companies are still attached to the project, which has now officially landed at Disney+.

Known for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter franchise, Emma Watson took the center stage when she was just 11 years old. Having her final portrayal of Miss Granger in the 2011 film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, the actress went on to star in other notable films.
The actress has been in the news since she was banned from driving for six months back in July 2024 (via BBC) after she received a speeding ticket for driving 38 mph in a 30 mph zone. Well, although she received her speeding ticket, her Hollywood career has been stagnant for a while.
Speaking of her Hollywood career, Emma Watson was once offered the lead role in the 2015 movie Cinderella, an offer she refused, only to star in the role of Bella two years later in the 2017 movie, Beauty and the Beast.

Bridgerton fans, prepare yourselves — because according to Polly Walker, things are about to look a little different on the Ton. Season 4 of Netflix’s hit Regency romance has officially wrapped filming, and while the spotlight will shift to Benedict Bridgerton’s (Luke Thompson) love story with Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), longtime characters like Lady Portia Featherington (Walker) still have plenty of mischief left in them. In a new interview with Collider’s Therese Lacson promoting Bookish at the Italian Global Series Festival, Walker confirmed that this upcoming season isn’t just changing romantic leads — it’s shifting tone.
“I think this season will be — which we’ve just finished doing — I think it’s a very different tone. Sort of upstairs-downstairs, so you get to know some of the other, you know, the servants, the people who are standing at the door, witnessing it all. You get to hear their stories a bit more.

Netflix has greenlit a new thriller series from Jed Mercurio with Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Richard Madden attached to star.
Variety has learned that the series, titled “Trinity,” has been picked up for eight episodes. The official logline states, “A heroic female Naval Officer (Mbatha-Raw) becomes involved with the outwardly charismatic Secretary of Defense (Madden), only to discover he may be at the heart of a dangerous conspiracy.”
Mbatha-Raw’s character is named Commander Katherine Decker, described as serving “as second-in-command on the USS Kansas, a nuclear submarine and one of the deadliest weapons on Earth.” Madden will star in the series as Secretary of Defense Webb Preston. “With a technology background that makes him different from most politicians, Webb’s innovation and purpose are seen as a threat in more ways than one,” per the character description.
Mercurio serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner on the series under his Hat Trick Mercurio (Htm) banner.

In 2010, Disney scored an unexpectedly large hit with Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland," a film that cost a sizable $200 million to make but which inexplicably raked in over a billion dollars worldwide. I say "inexplicably" because the film wasn't terribly well-liked by critics; it currently holds an unimpressive 51% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Although it had the same title as Disney's 1951 animated film "Alice in Wonderland," it was more of a sequel than a remake, following Alice (Mia Wasikowsa) back into Wonderland after she had already become an adult. There, she found the fantasy kingdom had been split by war and violence, leading her to don a suit of armor and take up a sword to make things right.
Disney had remade some of its animated movies before, but "Alice" ushered in a new trend for the studio. Over the 15 years that followed, Disney re-milked its own properties with pointed aggression,...

Disney has been producing live-action remakes of some of their most beloved animated films for quite some time, but this practice has particularly dominated the studio's ambitions since 2010, when "Alice in Wonderland" grossed over $1 billion. Since then, we have had films of varying quality hit theaters, with a few highlights including "Cinderella" and "The Jungle Book," both showcasing their share of cinematic merits. But for the most part, films like "Beauty and the Beast," "Aladdin," and "The Lion King" may have been $1 billion hits, but failed to add anything worthwhile to these beloved stories. Not to mention, returns are diminishing with recent releases such as Rob Marshall's "The Little Mermaid" and Marc Webb's "Snow White" failing to make waves financially, although the runaway box office smash that is "Lilo and Stitch" may breathe some life back into the practice, for better or worse.

Benedict Bridgerton's time to shine is almost here as Bridgerton Season 4 is getting closer. Although Netflix doesn't plan to release the new season until 2026, the streamer has revealed an exciting filming update.
Bridgerton Season 4, which Netflix confirmed would be Benedict's season, has wrapped filming. The series, which adapts Julia Quinn's book series of the same name following the high-society Bridgerton family and its eight siblings, switched the adaptation order for Season 3, which should've been Benedict's season, to Penelope and Colin. On Friday, Netflix posted a video online revealing before and after shots of the cast members in and out of costume after completing their scenes.
"Do join us in bidding our dear Ton a farewell as they conclude the production of the forthcoming season! Indeed, there is much to look forward to…" the caption states.
