I gave it 5 stars to practice my Spanish (!), but where it was set is anyone's guess, there was no alluding to any city, so could have been Mexico, Argentina - certainly not Spain as you'll see when the story unfolds.
Once again, Netflix seem to love these novellas where the set design comprises a lot of concrete. The interrogation room was devoid of anything bar a table and concrete ! Modern directors also seem to loathe lighting for reasons peculiar to themselves. So the audience has to play a guessing game of what is actually happening. The same when anyone enters their own home - WHY isn't the first thing they do is switch on a light ???? No they all stumble around in the dark instead. We need realism in our movies not the fantasy of the director.
The storyline itself was good, but it was the depiction of the production team that ruined it. I didn't mind seeing unknown actors playing the characters, but being English there are few well known Spanish actors to me anyway.
I won't spoil the ending, but its not something I want to sit through again, and it will be interesting to see if there will be a Diary of a Gigolo Pt 2.

No pun intended - especially because there is only one prominent one. And no it is not the one the title suggests - because the Gigolo of the title does not have a diary. Though I reckon it would have been intreresting to see him have one. But the character is well fleshed out enough (no pun intended here either).
But this is about events unfolding and culminating into something - well we are not entirely sure into what. Or rather whom - because while the police is there in the first scene, the first episode may suggest a different victim than the actual one. Also no pun detected (I thought I switch it up here).
Considering the title of the show - there is not much ... well erotic stuff going on. There is enough to get those who do not like scenes like that at all to be not happy, but not enough (skin) for those looking forward to scenes like that.
This is a mystery at heart, that unfolds by going back in time and retelling the things that happen. From different perspectives - no Rashomon here though. Still entertaining enough to say the least. The ending is a bittersweet deal I reckon - but if you suspend your disbelief it does make sense ... yes your questions will be answered.

A bit over dramatic in parts, but I found the one shocking thing after another happenings believable and fitting and Drama 101. The woman who played Mitou also played the maid in Babel. She really unabashedly gives her characters her all. I'll watch for more of her work. Lots of pretty men, no complaints there and always visually pleasurable. Ana, too, was a bold portrayal. I didn't think the woman who played Julia was the right fit chemistry-wise for the Emanuel character, but this wasn't an award winning series, rather just a kinda pay attention, somewhat entertaining one. Once was enough. An ok, "Who done it."
This story of a sexy Gigolo quickly turned into a murder mystery story. The best thing about this series is the lead Jesús Castro's blue eyes and his 1989 BMW 325i convertible (LOL). Really there was nothing to get me addicted to watching it - as a matter of fact I kept switching to other series' and then coming back to it. I kept watching since I always finish everything I start and the Gigolo winds up in the center of the murder mystery. Winded together in this mystery is the Gigolo, his faux mother (a madam that rescued him from escaping from an orphanage and a crime and turned him into the Gigolo), her daughter with whom he was having an affair, his clients, his main client Ana, Ana's daughter who he fell in love with, Ana's father - all have reasons to kill the the one who got murdered (don't want to give it away). So in the end, I was surprised to see a shocking twist that was worth watching to the end (real killer was divulged).
What a terrible show! The overacting is too much! The lead character is as beautiful as he is a terrible actor... The lead actress is distracting with those huge implants and the cheap sex scenes are ridiculous... The supporting female character.. Julia.. Is as plain as can be... No emotion shown... Nothing saves this terrible show... Please skip it if you can.
Was hopeful that Adriana Barraza's performance would save the show... No... It doesn't... Her performance is again overacted and like a completely caricature.
Though the sets are appropriate to the story... The writing is terrible! Netflix needs to put quality first.
