Emmy Nominee and DGA President Lesli Linka Glatter on the Evolution of TV Directing and Her Hopes that the Biz Will ‘Build Back Up’
Image
We’ve been talking a lot about groundbreaking Emmy nominations this year, like Kathy Bates as the oldest-ever drama actress nominee for “Matlock.” But here’s another one for the record books that’s been decades in the making: Five of the six nominees in the directing for a limited or anthology series or movie category are women — Shannon Murphy (“Dying for Sex”), Helen Shaver (“The Penguin”), Jennifer Getzinger (“The Penguin”), Nicole Kassell (“Sirens”) and Lesli Linka Glatter (“Zero Day”).

“I look at all of the directing nominees in my category, and they’re more than 90% women, which, in terms of change in the world, is extraordinary,” Glatter says. “And the work couldn’t be more different. … This is what the world is starting to look like, so that we are now feeling more represented and our stories are being told. And this is positive for storytelling on every level.

‘Landman’ Star Billy Bob Thornton’s 100% Rt ‘Bosch’ Replacement Is Back on Streaming Charts
Image
Billy Bob Thornton returned to the spotlight last year thanks to his performance in Taylor Sheridan’s Landman, but long before he ever played Tommy Norris, he starred in a legal drama that’s returned to streaming charts nearly 10 years after its premiere. Thornton stars alongside William Hurt (Lost in Space) and Nina Arianda (Midnight in Paris) in Goliath, the series following a disgraced lawyer who is now an ambulance chaser who gets a case that could bring him redemption and revenge. All four seasons of Goliath are still streaming on Prime Video, and the show has returned to the top 10 in the Czech Republic and several other countries. The final season of Goliath earned a 100% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and the show as a whole holds a 70% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter.

Goliath drew comparisons to Titus Welliver’s Bosch upon its release, largely due to the crime/legal drama aspects of the series.

Elizabeth Olsen's Sci-Fi Thriller With 83% On Rotten Tomatoes Shoots Up Streaming Charts After Debut
Image
Elizabeth Olsen may not boast Oscar nominations or any Emmy wins, but she is one of the better actors of her generation. Her career has spanned both major mainstream content and smaller movies and TV shows.

On the more mainstream side of things, she is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), where she plays Scarlet Witch in WandaVision, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This is by far her best-known role to most people.

On the other hand, she is also a skilled actor in award-winning, high-caliber works such as the HBO TV miniseries Love & Death. She also played a main character in the notable 2011 indie film Martha Marcy May Marlene, and a main role in Wind River.

Now, Olsen is working on building up her career both in and outside the MCU. Earlier this year, she was in a sci-fi film...

How Much Sylvester Stallone Was Paid For Taylor Sheridan's Tulsa King
Image
Let's be honest: Taylor Sheridan's "Tulsa King" (one of his few shows that the creator doesn't actually write) would barely work without its star, Sylvester Stallone, if at all. The fish-out-of-water gangster drama is built around the Rocky Balboa legend, and it's hard to imagine anybody else being as formidable as Sly is as Dwight Manfredi, the old-school Mafioso who's sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma, by his New York crime boss after finishing a 25-year prison sentence without snitching or betraying any of his associates. Given more as a demotion and punishment than anything else, Dwight isn't exactly happy with the cards he's been dealt — considering what he's done and endured for his crime family — but he's also resourceful enough to improvise a plan and start setting up new criminal operations in a city that hardly has a pulse compared to his hometown in the Big Apple. Before you know it,...

Jesse Plemons Plots Emma Stone’s Downfall in Bonkers First ‘Bugonia’ Trailer
Image
The next film from Academy Award-winner Yorgos Lanthimos just got an exciting new look. Focus Features has finally unveiled the first trailer for Bugonia, which will see him reunite with Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons. Lanthimos helped Stone win her second Oscar when the two worked together on Poor Things, which also stars Mark Ruffalo and Willem Dafoe. He first worked with Plemons last year on Kinds of Kindness, but this will be his first film since The Favorite in 2018 to not feature Dafoe. Bugonia is due in theaters later this year on October 31, and the film follows two conspiracy-obsessed young men who kidnap a high-powered CEO, convinced she is an alien here to destroy the Earth. If the trailer is any indication, Stone's character is in for a host of trouble. Alicia Silverstone, Stavros Halkias, and Aidan Delbis will also star in the film, which was written by Will Tracy.

"I Have Spent So Many Years Doing Marvel": Elizabeth Olsen Says She Needs To Prove She Has Good Movie Taste Post-mcu
Image
Elizabeth Olsen has appeared in the MCU since 2014. In addition to her superhero work, she has also appeared in a variety of projects that showcase her acting talents. But despite her impressive resume and acting credits, it seems the actress has something to prove, and no, it has nothing to do with her being a supposed "nepo baby."

In an interview on the NPR Podcast Wild Card, Olsen shared that she felt like she had to prove her movie taste to people. She stated that back in the day, when the Iron Manmovies were coming out, she saw them as great storytelling and that it was able to reflect on politics and culture. But now, as Marvel Studios has become a movie-making juggernaut, the views on superhero films have shifted. Due to this, despite enjoying her time playing Wanda Maximoff in the MCU, she felt like the other acting jobs...

Why Cherry From Marvel's Daredevil: Born Again Looks So Familiar
Image
With all due respect to the Russo Brothers, we're here today to talk about a very different kind of "Cherry." Marvel's "Daredevil: Born Again" might be making headlines for bringing back -- and occasionally killing off -- certain characters from the Netflix series, but don't underestimate the new additions to the supporting cast. Even among these newbies, performances by Nikki M. James as legal partner Kirsten McDuffie or the late Kamar de los Reyes as Hector Ayala/White Tiger have certainly taken the fandom by storm. Yet the entire creative team has one key cast member to thank for arguably the show's best and most welcome new element: Clark Johnson as the always reliable, even-keeled private investigator Cherry.

Thus far, we've seen Cherry emerge as one of the standout characters in Matt Murdock's (Charlie Cox) close circle of allies. One of the very few individuals to become aware of Matt's secret identity as Daredevil,...

Krysten Ritter has joined the cast of Dexter: Resurrection. Her role is going to be wildly different from the more heroic character she played in Jessica Jones, according to details divulged about her character.

Per Deadline, Ritter will play a murderous role in the upcoming Dexter sequel series. She will reportedly portray "Mia Lapierre," a "renowned sommelier whose alter ego is the 'Lady Vengeance' serial killer." Of course, serial killers often fall prey to Michael C. Hall's Dexter Morgan, meaning Ritter's Mia could be the next major threat for the titular vigilante. Ritter had recently shared that she was heading to New York to start work on an unspecified project, fueling rumors of a return as Jessica Jones in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, but Deadline has now confirmed that she was referring to Dexter: Resurrection.

Why so much from the venerable 51-year-old magazine, and why lately? One reason is the entertainment zeitgeist has caught up to what Texas Monthly has always done well. The magazine has a long history of compelling and in-depth true crime reporting, particularly by award-winning writer Skip Hollandsworth (who wrote the piece that inspired Hit Man).

“He writes about murders and horrible things that have happened, but also manages to find a level of dark humor in the...
