Christmas movies are generally full of romance and sweetness, but few of them are as romantic and as sweet as the 2006 cheesy classic The Holiday. Starring Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Jack Black, and Eli Wallach, the story of two women swapping places for the holiday season is one of the most beloved Christmas movies of all time, no matter how corny and cliche it may be.

During the '90s and early '00s, a classic subgenre resurged that imposed itself as a favorite among women: romcom. The renaissance had considerable success for about two decades, so much so that some very well know actors such as Demi Moore, Julia Roberts, Richard Gere, and Hugh Grants made it their go-to for some time. However, over the last decade, romcoms have made themselves shy as women all around the globe put their foot down and affirmed themselves in our society.

What a difference a decade makes.
At the beginning of the 2010s, the Oscars were already showing signs of change: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences had expanded the Best Picture category from five to 10 nominees and given the Best Director award to a woman for the first time ever, while also looking for new income sources as Oscar show ratings fell and the economic downturn hit AMPAS investments.
Even so, nobody could have foreseen just how dramatically the awards, and the Academy that hands them out, would be transformed over the next 10 years. While the 1930s saw the Oscars grow from seven categories decided by committee to 20 categories and thousands of voters, and the 1950s put the Oscars on television, it’s hard to find a more transformational decade than the 2010s.

Before we get into this, let’s make one thing very clear. There’s no doubt in our minds that Die Hard is one of the best Christmas movies ever. It also remains as one of the best action films around, too, but it is very much a Christmas flick, despite what people will try to tell you.
But given the time of the year, the classic debate has now sprung up again, with fans on Twitter voicing their thoughts on whether Die Hard should be considered a holiday watch or not. And as you can see below, there’s a fair amount of people making the case for both sides.

Quick, what’s your favorite Christmas movie? Ask 10 people, and you’ll likely get 10 different answers — from It’s a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street to A Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation. Seth Rogen came on down to the second night of CBS’ holiday themed “Price is Right” special and it was enough for the network to capture the Monday ratings win, though most viewers were pre-occupied with preparing for Santa’s arrival this week.
CBS led the Christmas Eve Eve night in both the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demo and total viewers with an overall o.7 rating and 4.96 million total viewers. The special improved from Sunday with a 0.9 rating and 6.6 million viewers, and was the highest rated and most-watched show on Monday.
NBC edged out Fox and ABC for second on a night when neither of them aired original programming. NBC, which re-aired its “SNL” Christmas” clip special, finished with a 0.5 and 2.7 million viewers. Fox and ABC tying in the demo with a 0.4 apiece, though ABC took more viewers with 2.6 million to 1.9 million.

Harry Styles sophomore album, Fine Line, makes a massive debut at Number One this week on the Rolling Stone Top 200 Albums Chart, moving 510,100 total album units for the week of December 13th through December 19th.
This marks the second highest debut in the chart’s history, narrowly topping the 500,300 units for Post Malone’s Hollywood’ Bleeding in its first week. But it wasn’t enough to beat Taylor Swift’s Lover, which debuted with 991,800 units in August.
Fine Line‘s success was largely driven by sales, which accounted for 360,700 units.

From Christmas Eve capers to Michael Shannon pretending to be Bigfoot, here are some more unusual Christmas movie picks for this season
Despite only being in season for about a month of the year, Christmas movies are a booming business. Outside of big-screen offerings like Paul Feig’s Last Christmas and a new version of Black Christmas, the Hallmark Channel has produced a whopping 40 new festive movies for 2019 and Netflix has turned out a range of original films too.
Few of the new films produced each year will join the annual rotation of classics like The Muppet Christmas Carol and It’s A Wonderful Life, but not everyone wants to watch the same films once a year every year. If you’re looking for something festive that you might have missed, or you just haven’t seen in a long time, or even something that isn’t about either Santa or Scrooge,...

This is my sad Christmas song
I've had it stuck in my head all day long
I wrote it in the car on my ride home
Because I knew I'd walk in the door and I'd be alone
Why'd I even put up that fuckin' tree?
If there's no one here that's gonna see
Just how pretty she looks on Christmas Eve
Because there's no one here next to me
This is my sad Christmas song
So I light another bong
I turn on the radio
I binge watch our favorite shows
This year feels kind of lame
But the last one was the same
But the holiday spirit they say
Is taking off on a plane
This is my sad Christmas song
Fa lalalala
I always thought that Santa was kind of cute
There's something about his beard, big belly, and boots
I left Santa more than cookies this...

Ruben Östlund’s black comedy about an unexpected implosion of trust set against the slopes of the Alps, “Force Majeure,” represented Sweden at the Academy Awards in 2015 and was a minor foreign-language box-office hit in the U.S. So it makes sense that an American studio, in this case Fox Searchlight Pictures, would want to recreate Östlund’s wincingly funny film about a couple in crisis for stateside audiences. Enter “Downhill,” which finally has its first trailer below.
Here, co-directors/writers Nat Faxon and Jim Rash (co-writing with “Succession” scribe Jesse Armstrong) cast Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus in the roles of a husband and wife who, while on vacation in the Alps with their two children, encounter a brush with death. That comes courtesy of an avalanche that sends the husband fleeing from their alfresco dining table to save his own life — leaving his stunned wife and kids to fend for themselves or,...

“Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?” It’s a popular question often discussed around this time of year and one that still divides people everytime it’s brought up, but here’s a different spin on the enigma: “Is Iron Man 3 a Christmas movie?”
Yes, much like the aforementioned classic, Shane Black’s threequel is an action flick set around the holiday season. But does that make it a bonafide Christmas movie even though it doesn’t fully get to grips with the spirit of the season? Well, according to Marvel, yes, it does.
Over on their official website, the company has stated that not only do they consider Iron Man 3 to indeed be a Christmas movie, but they’ve also backed up their stance with a fairly lengthy article – a portion of which you can read below:

Lined Lips and Spiked Bats is a monthly column devoted to women in genre cinema. When Bob Clark’s Black Christmas was released in 1974 it was coming right off the victory of Roe v. Wade, which gave women legal access to abortion in the United States. It was a major win for the women’s liberation movement, and the question of abortion slowly started to seep into movies of the period. Black Christmas is about Jess Bradford (Olivia Hussey) receiving obscene telephone calls at her sorority house while her friends disappear one by one, but in between the verbal and physical violence, she and her boyfriend Peter (Keir Dullea) fight over her desire to have an abortion. Black Christmas was always political, but its specific history of a proto-slasher made when Roe v. Wadewas finalized means that it has a unique placement in the genre. The slasher genre didn’t...

We still don't have the first A Quiet Place 2 teaser that debuted in theaters this past weekend with Black Christmas. But we do have a brand new image from A Quiet Place 2. The first movie proved to be one of the truly unexpected hits of 2018. As such, a sequel became a top priority for Paramount Pictures. John Krasinski, who not only starred in the original but directed as well, returns (behind the camera at least). As we can see from this first-look photo, Emily Blunt, Noah Jupe and Millicent Simmonds are all back as the Abbott family again as well.
The first image from A Quiet Place 2 doesn't give away too much. We see the trio of family members walking out in the open, with Emily Blunt holding onto her newborn baby. It looks as though this could be picking up mere hours after the finale of A Quiet Place,...

For a long time, the Hallmark Channel has been the home of emotional movies. Forget the big-budget Avengers and Star Wars movies. If you want something that will tug at your heartstrings, Hallmark always has something in store for you. From romance films to comedies to Christmas movies, Hallmark churns them out by the thousands every single year.

While only one of The Voice’s Final Four would emerge victorious in Season 17’s last results show Tuesday, the episode was a win/win proposition for viewers. Maybe even win/win/win/win. Billy Eichner and Mariah Carey took to the streets of New York to spread holiday cheer on the latest episode of Billy on the Street.
After Eichner introduced himself as the "Hanukkah Goblin" and Carey as the "Queen of Christmas," the two approached a man and asked if he thought Carey should record a Hanukkah song. When the man agreed, Eichner asked him to finish the lyrics to "I Have a Little Dreidel." The pedestrian incorrectly finished the lyrics, though Carey awarded him with a menorah anyway. Sophia Takal’s reimagining of Black Christmas cuts past the male gaze, creating a send-up of the genre in the era of Time’s Up. A somewhat revolutionary film in concept by continuing to subvert expectations, this 2019 version flips various slasher film tropes and reframes sexist expectations of the “sexy co-ed slasher flick” for an era in which norms have radically changed. Unlike Get Out and other recent genre flicks that mix social commentary, unfortunately it never quite pulls everything off. Being woke, funny, and scary all at once is indeed a difficult feat to achieve, but at least Takal’s new take is more admirable than the standard slasher film as it has a different kind of sex and violence on the brain.
Black Christmas places its agenda first and foremost and is the rare film where its characters actually talk like smart Ivy League students rather than paper-thin tropes.

Few things are as popular and as associated with the Christmas entertainment season as the Hallmark Channel's beloved and seemingly endless slate of Christmas movies. For over a decade, Hallmark has been producing sweet and seasonal movies with romantic twists, that often find two total strangers and opposites coming together and falling in love just in time for Christmas.

With Christmas right around the corner, Saturday Night Live made fun of those awkward political discussions many families will have to suffer through on December 25.
For this weekend’s cold open, the NBC sketch comedy series dissected how the conversation shifts in different parts of the country.
The sketch kicked off with Aidy Bryant saying the country is “more divided than ever,” but families have more in common than they think. To prove her point, she hacked into three home cameras for a bird’s-eye view.
First up, a family dinner in San Francisco.
“I’m so happy that everyone flew here for the holidays and I’m even more happy that they did it! They’re impeaching Trump,” Cecily Strong says.
Her family agrees. “I don’t know what took them so long. Trump is a criminal!” adds Kyle Mooney.
“He violated the constitution,” Bowen Yang says. “There has to be consequences.
