Evilside

One of the best shows thats from Finland! Absolutely worth of watching! Good acting, interesting plot and the ending was not something you'd expect. This show is something Finland didn't have before this, and we absolutely needed it! The plot was not obvious and you really want to watch the whole thig at once. Also nice to see not so popular (yet😉) actors in this show, and all of them did fantastic job! I would absolutely recommend watching this show! And I will personally watch it many many times, that's for sure! Finland need more of the masterpieces and more from the amazing actors and actresses!

Well, I learnt something here. When I heard characters talking about "the larp" and "larping" when speaking Finnish and seeing this word translated into these same words in the English subtitles, I didn't have a clue what was going on. I had to stop the episode and use a translator to get the text in English. That didn't help as it just gave me "larp" in that language too. I asked google what it meant and it's an acronym for "live action role play". This was the basis of the plot - the original murder could only be solved by the larp that had led up to his death.

There were some twists and turns as well as false accusations. The scenario of an inbred island was good. The perversion of religion was also interesting - Finland has too many exclusive religious communities unfortunately that contrast with the overall liberalism of how society is viewed and works. I have to say it was rather over the top here dependant on one mentally deranged person.

A few things weren't followed up. What was Ulla Penttinen's background problem? How did Reijo's wife really die all those years ago?

I watched it all and thought it was fair. Not a masterpiece though as others are claiming.

Once again, the quality of the crime Scandinavian series surpasses all the others. Very well made and told, real as life itself and with excellent actors. I loved seeing the actress Olivia Ainali again, Johanna in this series. A great young actress, with a lot of talent. She also plays the role of 'Sorjonen's' daughter, another series that you should not miss.

The series has a very exciting and original theme. Families with their feet on the ground and quite distant, I have always imagined that the cold should bring us closer together, but that is not the case in this series. The variety of characters and their interaction are very important, the environment, the ice and the snow give it that noir note that is totally necessary to set this specific story. The photography is exceptional.

Evilside is a very thrilling crime drama about friendship, loyalty and survival in the face of overwhelming odds, exciting and full of suspense and tension, and filled with evocative and provocative worldly themes.

This Finnish series is set in an island community and opens with the body of a sixteen year old boy being found. Suspicion soon turns on Johanna Hakala, a member of the same class who had been bullied for some time. The dead boy had invited her to join with his Live Action Role Play group; this lead to some jealousy from another girl. Johanna starts to believe that the only way to prove her innocence it to finish the LARP. There are other suspects and inevitably the murder raises tensions in the community; especially when an outside police officer is invited to lead the investigation.

I thought this was a solid series. It snowbound location creates a good claustrophobic atmosphere. Many of the characters aren't particularly likeable but for the most part feel believable, especially with the heightened tension following the murder. The worries about the dangers of the games the teens play certainly feels real... adults have always worried that things the young of the time do is dangerous whether it is Rock 'n' Roll in the '50s, 'video nasties' in the '80s or LARPing here. The cast does a solid job bringing their characters to life. The identity of the guilty wasn't a total surprise; but neither was it excessively obvious. Overall I'd recommend this to fans of Euro-drama.
