Santa Shark Is Eating Our Town is a movie whose main characters are sharks that takes place entirely above water. It is... a lot.
Before I get into the MANY negatives, let me list some things I liked about it. As a Finnish person, seeing this film parody our stereotypes was pretty funny, like, how we're often so quiet and drink so much coffee. The animation was also nice, full of strong colors, it was nice to look at. But please fix the mouths, I don't like it when they rotate when the character is speaking. The editing was also fine, I liked the sound editing in particular. And the eponymous song during the end credits was very well-sung, it was GREAT, actually.
That's about it with positives. First of all, the acting was absolutely AWFUL. The voices are obviously computers, but even computers can act so much better than this. The tone, the inflections, everything. It sounded like the two main characters were gargling the entire time. Especially in a scene where the characters are drunk, the acting is even worse.
The choice of words was something to behold... I would say that the word "shark" was said aloud at least a hundred times, they mixed every word with "shark". I saw this in Finnish, so I imagine the English translations are even worse, but just to give you an example, "hai" means "shark" in Finnish, and instead of our capital Helsinki, they called another city "Haisinki"... They remind us every few seconds that the characters are sharks, which I don't understand, because they look nothing like sharks, and they are never even in the water.
The director also clearly has some delusions. I have never seen something as bold as calling the GOD character in your movie after yourself... Imagine making your characters pray to you several times!
Overall, this is a bizarre movie, and I can't tell where it was coming from. I legitimately don't know if it was supposed to be good and failed spectacularly, or if it was intentionally bad. I will mostly remember it for the terrible acting.
