I never expect a perfect pilot episode. I think it had some funny moments. I will watch and hopefully the laughs and stories will grow. Don't hate on it so soon.
I am a 30 year old on in center hemodialysis and have had end stage renal disease requiring dialysis for shortly under a year. I don't get just the extreme amount of hate I am seeing here. Sure some things aren't 100% accurate. Some jokes fall a little flat but what do you expect honestly. It is a fully competent show and I've laughed more than a few times. Anything that puts kidney disease in the spotlight is a plus, and could maybe inspire someone to be a live donor to someone that needs a kidney, like myself. I hope this show continues for a while.
I used to watch this show off and on in the first season. It was basically just something to pass the time. However, after seeing Annaleigh Ashford on Impeachment, I was so impressed that I gave the show a second look. To my delight, the second season is a total revamping of the show. They changed the focus to the assisted living home, and added great veteran supporting characters. Linda Lavin was on the first season, but she wasn't used enough. They beefed up her part and she's great. They also added Hector Elizondo, Priscilla Lopez, Ben Vereen and a surprisingly hilarious Jane Seymour. The way she plays an over the hill bimbo makes me laugh every time. I think if you weren't happy with this show the first season you should give it a second look.
Having a comedy centered around someone who needs a kidney is NOT the same thing as making fun of someone who needs a kidney. The character is a strong, smart guy who is not made fun of at all. If anything, the show is doing a good thing by bringing attention to those who need transplants and showing the good in the world by having someone volunteer to give theirs. It's heartwarming, not offensive. Get a life people and stop getting offended by every little thing. Mom seems to be a popular show, which is about recovering alcoholics and a crippled man. I guess that show is disgusting to you people too.
This subject is very close to my heart as I am struggling with Chronic Kidney Disease in REAL life. I saw the promos for this and thought it was in very poor taste to make light of something that affects so many people's lives including my own. However I gave it a try and I LOVE IT! It is hilarious, sometimes touching but always makes my day! The cast is sensational including the elderly ones who ride the bus from the retirement community. It hits all the right notes and is not exploitive but exuberant. I love it. Please keep it on the air. Give it a chance. The only thing I don't like is the theme song and images. It deserves better than that.
