Emmy-nominated writer Kim Rosenstock posed a provocative question to a eclectic group of playwrights-turned-tv writers who joined her at the latest edition of Proper Presents: Deadline Dinners: Have you ever been asked to explain your show’s tone?

To kick off the night that’s designed to foster candid, intimate conversations among storytellers, Rosenstock explained that while doing press for Dying for Sex she was asked by reporters to talk about the show’s tone. As a playwright (she penned the 2013 play Tigers Be Still) who holds an Mfa in playwriting from Yale School of Drama, she said the question of tone rarely came up when being asked about her plays. “So I don’t always know what that means,” she said.

That spawned a lively discussion among Rosenstock’s many guests at the Deadline event that took place at the Santa Monica Proper hotel.

The series focuses on an author, played by Carell, and his complicated relationship with his daughter, who is portrayed by Charly Clive. Alongside them, the show also features Danielle Deadwyler, Phil Dunster, John C. McGinley, and Lauren Tsai.

Right now, MacArthur stars in Netflix’s basketball comedy “Running Point,” which recently got renewed for a second season. He’s also known for his roles in the Fox comedy “The Mick” and appearances on shows like “The Righteous Gemstones,” “History of the World Part II,” “Killing It,” and “Physical.”

Besides acting, MacArthur has writing credits for “The Mick” and “Righteous Gemstones.” Movie fans may recognize him from “El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie,” “No Hard Feelings,” and “Halloween Kills.

Netflix has confirmed an Italian adaptation of the popular Korean reality show, Physical: 100.

The Italian version, Physical Italia: da 100 a 1, includes stars like rugby player Mirco Bergamasco, Olympic diver Tania Cagnotto, actress Elisabetta Canalis, Olympic gymnast Jury Chechi, Olympic gold medalist swimmer Federica Pellegrini, actor Alvise Rigo, and Youtuber Luis Sal.

The original Korean series featured two seasons and starred a cast of top athletes, celebrities and elite military professionals facing off in grueling physical and mental quests. The series soared to the Netflix Top 10 list in over 80 countries.

Last week, Netflix confirmed that there will also be a U.S. spinoff, in addition to Physical: Asia — with the latter premiering this year.

The streamer said that the casting process for the Italian adaptation was extensive, with over 1,000 people contacted, 187 Zoom auditions conducted and 137 in-person callbacks held.

Today, Apple TV+ revealed the trailer for season two of Platonic, the critically acclaimed half-hour comedy starring and executive produced by Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne.

The 10-episode sophomore season will premiere globally on Apple TV+ on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, with the first two episodes, followed by one episode weekly until October 1, 2025.

Co-created, directed and co-written by Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, Platonic season two picks up with everyone’s favorite pair of best friends (played by Rogen and Byrne) as they contend with new mid-life hurdles, including work, weddings, and partners in crises. The duo tries their best to be each other’s rock, but sometimes rocks break things.

The season two cast also includes Luke Macfarlane and Carla Gallo, and introduces Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett, and Milo Manheim as guest stars.

Platonic is produced by Sony Pictures Television, where Stoller’s Global Solutions has an overall deal.

Rose Byrne and Meghann Fahy will star in “The Good Daughter,” Peacock’s upcoming limited series series based on the Karin Slaughter novel of the same name. Byrne also serves as executive producer.

The official logline reads, “‘The Good Daughter’ is a suspenseful crime drama where sisters Charlotte (Meghann Fahy) and Samantha (Rose Byrne) Quinn have spent the last 28 years trying to piece together the lives that were fractured by a single night of violence. When another attack splinters the small town of Pikeville, Charlotte is the first witness on the scene. Now a lawyer like her father, she’s forced to confront her own demons as the case twists through one shocking revelation after another. In the end, both she and Samantha find themselves wondering if the price of being the good daughter was worth it after all.”

Charlotte was originally set to be played by Jessica Biel, who later departed the project.

Netflix's Korean survival competition show Physical: 100 was confirmed for a third season, promising new twists. The series first premiered on January 24, 2023, and has since become popular worldwide. Created by Jang Ho-gi, Physical: 100 has presented brutal physical challenges and shown some wholesome sportsmanship for the last two seasons. Each season gathers 100 participants from different sports, including bodybuilders, Olympic gold medalists, fitness influencers, and more. These individuals compete in mind-blowing tests that challenge their physical and mental strength.

Physical: 100 also looks at their endurance levels and if they are incredible team players. The second season debuted in March, with a couple of underdogs making it to the end. Physical: 100 season 2 winner took home around $222,990. With this unscripted hit series' success, it isn't surprising that the show will return in 2025. This time, the search will expand outside South Korea, looking for the best players from other Asian countries.

Dua Lipa is kicking off the Radical Optimism Tour!

The 29-year-old Radical Optimism superstar kicked off the first night of her highly anticipated world tour on Tuesday (November 5) at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.

The tour will see her moving through Asia, Australia and New Zealand, Europe, the United Kingdom and the United States all the way through to October of 2025. For all tour dates and ticket info, click here.

Finding pop and rock superstardom led Isabella Summers on an exciting journey. While the co-founder of Florence & the Machine (and current member), Summers helped break the band into the mainstream. With the world lifting Florence & The Machine to superstardom, new opportunities came knocking. Hitpig, a new animated film, continues Summers’s career in film and television. After a few hits, the singer/songwriter takes on the world of animation with the new action comedy. She sat down with FandomWire to discuss the exciting transition and the power of seeing her music on screen.

Summers proves how excited she is to talk about Hitpig. “When I got invited to score this, I was like, ‘Hell yeah.’ This was my chance to be John Williams!” she exclaimed. “It’s basically Pigs in Space, and we’re doing Star Wars. Everyone got on board with that.

She released her most recent special, “Mouthy,” via OnlyFans in 2023. She is currently on the road on her “Big Baby” comedy tour.

Cummings also currently hosts the podcast “Good for You.” Originally launched in 2019, the podcast features Cummings alongside her friends, fellow comedians, and a variety of experts having wide-ranging conversations.

All episodes of the coming-of-age Satanic Panic thriller series Hysteria! will be available to watch on the Peacock streaming service as of Friday, October 18th – but if you would prefer to watch the show on regular television, USA Network and Syfy will be simulcasting the first episode on October 18th, with USA Network going on to air episodes each Friday. Max has picked up a new scripted law enforcement drama from Tomorrow Studios, a joint venture with ITV Studios known for “One Piece” and “Snowpiercer.”

The untitled project, which is being developed through a first look deal with Liz Garbus and Dan Cogan’s Story Syndicate and is loosely inspired by the life story of Geraldine Hart, follows a legendary FBI agent who returns to her hometown on Long Island to clean up mob corruption and quickly finds that the rot is even deeper and darker than she thought. Before long, she finds herself facing down nefarious entities from all sides.

In addition to Hart, Garbus and Cogan, the series is executive produced by Tomorrow Studios’ Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements and Alissa Bachner, Story Syndicate’s Nellie Reed, Eileen Myers, Anne Beagan and Anne Beagan Productions’ Stacey Sherman. Myers serves as writer on the project, while Garbus directs.

“Based on a True Story” is returning for a Season 2 this fall. All eight episodes in the next installment of the Peacock original will premiere on Nov. 21.

Season 2 will follow new parents Ava (Kaley Cuoco) and Nathan (Chris Messina). After the bloody events of Season 1, the couple tries to return to normalcy. For Ava that means ditching her true crime obsession to focus on her career as a real estate agent, and for Nathan that means coaching private tennis clinic. Ava even finds a new friend in Drew (Melissa Fumero).

But it isn’t long before they’re pulled back into the world of mystery when a string of new murders emerge. Soon, Ava begins to wonder if Nathan’s friend Matt (Tom Bateman) is behind the killings and if her younger sister Tory (Liana Liberato), who is now dating Matt, is now in danger.

“Star Trek” is preparing to beam up some laughter.

Actor-writer Tawny Newsome (“Star Trek: Lower Decks”) and writer-director Justin Simien are developing a new live-action comedy set in the world of the storied sci-fi franchise.

The show will be set in the 25th century. According to an official logline, it will follow “Federation outsiders serving a gleaming resort planet find out their day-to-day exploits are being broadcast to the entire quadrant.”

Newsome and Simien announced the project, along with fellow executive producer Alex Kurtzman, during the “Star Trek” Universe panel at San Diego Comic-Con, which Simien moderated. Newsome was there with the cast of “Lower Decks” to discuss the fifth and final season of the animated comedy, in which Newsome voices Beckett Mariner, one of the junior officers on the USS Cerritos.

Simien, Newsome and Kurtzman will also write on the show. Aaron Baiers, Kyle Laursen, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth will executive produce.

When the Emmy nominations were announced last week, heads turned when Sam Levinson and The Weeknd’s The Idol scooped up a nomination. And Nina McNeely, who earned the nod for choreography, feels like the axed HBO show deserved more Emmy love.

“Definitely cinematography,” she tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I thought Lily [Rose Depp]’s acting was absolutely incredible. Even the makeup was fantastic on The Idol. I would definitely say directing for Sam. He is really incredible to work with, and even watching him work with the other actors, he trusts them so much and really asks their opinion, and you never know how creatively involved people are on projects like films or television. And that was really cool to see — how collaborative of a director he is.”

Sitcom veteran Wendie Malick, who has guest-starred in the previous two seasons of NBC’s courtroom comedy, is joining the cast as a series regular in Season 3, TVLine has learned. She’ll reprise her role as Dan’s terrifying ex Julianne Walters, who will now be the court’s new prosecutor, replacing India de Beaufort’s Olivia. (de Beaufort announced her exit from the series in May.)

Rose Byrne is closing one chapter of her career and opening another as her comedy series “Physical” came to an end after three seasons, allowing her to move on to “Platonic,” both on Apple TV+.

“I feel grateful to talk about the work, you know that the strike, we couldn’t really talk about season three of ‘Physical,’ which was such a shame because I’m so proud of the season and it’s our finale,” she tells Gold Derby.”I feel excited to be able to discuss the projects, and they’re so very different, both of them.
