American Idol season 22 Top 7 finalist McKenna Faith Breinholt was a fan favorite who captivated everyone not only with her incredible vocals, but also her compelling backstory, and she's been very busy with her music career since competing in the reality singing competition series in 2024. At McKenna's audition, she blew away the judges--Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan--with her phenomenal rendition of "There Was Jesus" by Zach Williams and Dolly Parton. McKenna is adopted, and she was shocked when her birth family surprised her at her audition.

McKenna's birth mother was Amy Ross-Lopez, a musician who played with the duo Nowhere Man and a Whiskey Girl. She also sang their song "Tumbleweed" at her audition. The Top 7 artists on “American Idol” Season 22 each performed twice on Sunday, May 5 — a dance song and an Adele song — with audiences voting live coast-to-coast for their favorites. (Read our minute-by-minute recap.) Ultimately, after nearly 19 million votes were cast, host Ryan Seacrest announced that the pair of singers who were eliminated prior to next week’s Top 5 episode were McKenna Faith Breinholt and Julia Gagnon. Cue the fan outrage!

Throughout the competition, McKenna belted out tunes like “There Was Jesus” (Auditions round), “Anyone” (Showstopper round), “The Story” (Top 24 round), “Both Sides, Now” & “Tumbleweed” (Top 20 round), “Hard to Say I’m Sorry” (Top 14 round), “cardigan” (Top 12 round), “Iris” (Top 10 round), “Everywhere I Go” (Top 8 round) and “E.T.” & “Make You Feel My Love” (Top 7 round). The 25-year-old esthetician from Gilbert, Az initially went viral on “Idol” when her adopted family and her birth family surprised her at her audition, creating a rather emotional moment for everyone involved.

The American Idol Top 7 finalists are all incredible singers, but some have a better chance of advancing to the Top 5 in the competition than others. The Top 7 finalists will be singing "Songs That Make Me Wanna Dance," as well as Adele hits. The Top 7 finalists will be mentored by superstar singer Ciara.

America has now narrowed down the American Idol season 22 finalists to its Top 7, and there are some finalists who are more likely to survive Adele Night, which will also feature "Songs That Make Me Wanna Dance," and make it into the Top 5. The phenomenal Top 7 finalists--Abi Carter, Emmy Russell, Jack Blocker, Julia Gagnon, McKenna Faith Breinholt, Triston Harper, and Will Moseley--advanced to the next round after the Judges' Song Contest. Two of these super-talented singers will be sent home next as the Top 5 finalists are determined by America's Vote.

The Top 7 were revealed in a live two-hour broadcast of “American Idol” Monday night. Host Ryan Seacrest called the Top 8 to the stage to perform in the “Judge’s Song Contest Night,” where Kaibrienne was eliminated. In a poll conducted just after the episode, we asked, “Which contestant gave the best performance of the night?” Platinum Ticket winner Abi Carter came out on top with her rendition of “Bring Me To Life” by Evanescence. Judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie were gobsmacked by the performance, but Luke was especially happy since he chose the song. “I’ve created a monster!” he exclaimed before Katy added, “”You just kicked down all four walls of the box I thought you were in.”

After thousands of votes were recorded, Abi ended up with 33% of the tally, followed by Jack Blocker (“Always on My Mind”) with 21%, Emmy Russell...

Tonight on “American Idol,” the Top 8 perform one of three songs secretly selected by Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, who are each competing for most songs chosen. America votes live for the Top 6, and the judges make a save for the Top 7; plus, a special tribute to Idol alum Mandisa.
