The BFI London Film Festival will debut Canadian filmmaker Guy Maddin’s latest project as part of Lff Expanded, the festival’s Immersive Art and Extended Realities strand, which runs from October 5-16, 2022.

Programmed by Ulrich Schrauth, the BFI’s Immersive Art and Xr Curator, this year’s Lff Expanded lineup showcases 20 projects from 17 countries across the world, all of which feature artists working in emerging technologies, such as interactive virtual reality, screen-based installations, augmented reality, mixed reality, immersive audio experience and live performance.

The lineup includes the World Premiere of Guy Maddin’s latest work Haunted Hotel: A Melodrama in Augmented Reality. Presented at BFI Southbank, this evocative, immersive exhibition transports the audience into a surreal paper world, created from an eclectic selection of clippings drawn from Maddin’s own personal archive, set to an intricate soundscape by acclaimed composer Magnus Fiennes. As The Hunger Games franchise continues to bring in the big bucks at the box office, movie studios are feeling increasingly confident when it comes to adapting Young Adult novels. Some have flopped of course, while the next one – Divergent – should help give us a better idea as to whether or not this is a genre which can truly find its footing.

Regardless, Lionsgate are now moving ahead with an adaptation of Jeanne Ryan’s Nerve. It tells the story of a high school senior wallflower who, in an attempt to broaden her horizons, joins a global online game of provocative truth or dare while an audience of “watchers” vote and comment. But as she becomes a sensation and advances higher and higher, the game evolves and soon she finds herself in a dangerous and life-ending situation.

Catfish directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman have signed on to direct an adaptation of Jeanne Ryan's young adult novel Nerve.

The story centers on a teenager named Vee, who is lured in to join a global, online game of truth or dare, where an audience of "watchers" around the globe vote and comment on her performance. She is teamed up with a young man named Ian, and as they continue to advance through the game, they realize they just might be playing with their lives, as the game grows more and more dangerous. The book was published in 2012 by Penguin, and has been translated into six different languages.

Jessica Sharzer, a writer and producer for FX's American Horror Story, wrote the screenplay adaptation, with Allison Shearmur producing. No production schedule was given.

We caught up with Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost, directors of Catfish, Paranormal Activity 3 and 4 as they discuss the pressures of the franchise, the state of found footage and even get caught browsing the website during the interview.

What is the premise for Paranormal Activity 4? Where are we in the timeline of the franchise?

Ariel: What is unique about it with its premise is that it’s a new family. This demon, this curse, this haunting affects more than the family you’ve known through the first three films. The big question is how they are connected. It follows the second film chronologically. This film takes place in 2011.

Kelly Reichardt's upcoming eco-terrorist thriller "Night Moves" has been slapped with a lawsuit from Edward R. Pressman Film demanding production to be halted immediately says THR Esq.

Pressman Film, which produced "American Psycho" and "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps", claims 'Night' is a blatant rip-off of Edward Abbey's 1975 novel "The Monkey Wrench Gang". Pressman owns the book's film rights and have hired "Catfish" filmmakers Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman to adapt.

According to the lawsuit, both works feature the targeting of a dam for destruction by means of ammonium fertilizer-laden boats. The principal in both is an alcoholic bomb-making veteran albeit in different services (Green Beret in the book, Us Marine in 'Night'), and both feature a young woman who develops a sexual relationship with the veteran despite his initial objections to her participation in the group's activities.

Two years on and we're still none the wiser about whether Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman's debut film "Catfish" was in fact a documentary or not. Regardless, few would argue that it’s anything but a compelling watch, and that’s more than you can say for their follow up -- “Paranormal Activity 3” -– despite their best efforts. The story follows four guys who try to battle over-development in the American West in the 70s by bumbling attempts at sabotage and industrial espionage.

While three of the guys have no intention of harming anyone, the fourth is a young Vietnam vet who wants to blow shit up.

Edward R. Pressman and Gary Burden are producing the project which has been in development for around 15 years.

Since busting on to the scene back in 2010, Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman have done their best to keep us guessing. Their ticket to notoriety, of course, was the thrilling and fascinating documentary Catfish, and then they moved over to the found-footage horror game with Paranormal Activity 3. While we know what's coming next from the filmmakers - Paranormal Activity 4 is hitting theaters this October - what does the future beyond hold for Joost and Schulman? The directors will adapt the 1975 novel by Edward Abbey, which centers on four men who battle against the development of their beloved desert in the American Southwest. While they attempt to sabotage construction sites, they vow never to harm another human being, animal, plant, or rock. Here's what the directors had to say about this project.

Deadline reports that Josst and Schulman will write and direct an adaptation of Edward Abbey’s 1975 novel The Monkey Wrench Gang. The story centers on four guys in the 1970s who try to sabotage over-development in the American West. Three of the four vow to not harm “human, animal, plant or rock,” while the fourth is more interested in the effects of pyrotechnics. I loved Catfish, the "is it real or fake?" documentary from directing team Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman. It was sad, heartfelt, and at times downright terrifying, with their blurring of the lines of reality and pure fiction resulting in a downright intriguing film. Their take on the Paranormal Activity franchise managed to inject new life into the franchise that was dangerously close to running stale, and since then they have solidified themselves as hot commodities. After Paranormal Activity 4, which is due out this October, it appears the duo's next film with be an adaptation of the '70s novel The Monkey Wrench Gang by Edward Abbey.

Sony Pictures Entertainment's nascent acquisitions unit has entered into a multipicture co-financing and domestic distribution agreement with Inferno Films. The deal gives the Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group all media rights to films produced by Inferno.

The first film covered by the deal is "The Heaven Project", a psychological thriller starring Paul Walker and directed and written by John Glenn. The film is in production.

Pictures at the top of Inferno's development slate include a remake of George Cukor's "The Women", written and to be directed by Diane English, creator of television's "Murphy Brown"; "The Monkey Wrench", an adaptation of the Edward Abbey novel that will be directed by Catherine Hardwicke (William Goldman wrote the screenplay); and "A Dog's Story", a family drama inspired by a Japanese story of a man and his dog.

Inferno is in postproduction on "Smother", which stars Diane Keaton and was produced with Jay Roach.
