Surprisingly enlightening for a darker film...

Surprisingly enlightening for a darker film, The Divine takes viewers through a range of feelings from grief to emotional solitude. Writer and director Tim Hoover shows great command of setting, symbolism, and character for a currently low-profile name in the film industry. 2005 winner of the Audience Favorite and Best Short Film Awards at the Damah Film Festival, Hoover's short drama deserves the recognition it has received. The film will have its big-screen debut at the upcoming Midwest Independent Film Festival in early October. I expect that despite its Christian core, it will prove strength and timelessness across various genres. I expect to see more from this young and talented producer/writer/director of the film industry. Take 24 minutes out of your schedule for this. It's worth it.

creating miracles

A family existence has been presented as a miracle by exaggerating the odds -a teen invalid born with disfigured face looks after terminally ill mother somewhere in a pristine forest.

That is why viewer wondering at what more could be written of

-touching play performed very nostalgically and professionally

-short movie itself is of 24 minutes only

-religious aspects attached to this film

-too many questions were arisen after movie was seen

-original butterflies used to highlighting a film's canvass

-belief in anything screened.

God saves, apparently.

Visually stunning. Well acted. The depth of a Christian rock song. The production values and wonderful visual pictures fool you at first into thinking the film is something more. Unfortunately, it stumbles into... well, a sermon basically. Films that have "everything is OK...God loves you!" themes aren't interesting because it establishes a world without real conflict. It's fine if characters are devout, but I really don't think any film should take an obvious side...especially if it's directly related to the plot. It comes off as cheesy and preachy, just as an atheistic view would come off as closed minded and jaded. Other than that, I think the director shows a lot of promise. As I said the visuals were wonderful, and I'd be very interested to see how he handles better material.
