‘Good Fortune’: How Aziz Ansari Wrote a ‘Budget Guardian Angel’ for Keanu Reeves
Image
Lionsgate’s upcoming dramedy “Good Fortune” has been heavily sold on Keanu Reeves giving up the guns of John Wick for the comically tiny wings of Gabriel, a socially awkward angel who tries to give a man an “It’s a Wonderful Life”-esque lesson even though that’s way above his pay grade.

At TIFF 2025, the film’s writer, director and star Aziz Ansari told TheWrap’s Joe McGovern that his work on his Netflix series “Master of None” prepared him when writing Gabriel for Reeves, showing him how to convert his conversations with his cast into lines that help the actors put their voice into the character.

“I read Elia Kazan,...

Clayface spotted dancing with his shadow on the set of new Dcu movie
Back in 2021, filmmaker Mike Flanagan let it be known on social media that he was interested in making a “standalone horror/thriller/tragedy” movie that would center on the Clayface character. A while after that, he confirmed that he had met with veteran DC movie producer Jon Berg to pitch a “horror-leaning” take on Clayface, as well as ideas for the DC properties Scarecrow, Justice League Dark, and Constantine. The meeting “kind of went nowhere.” But then, in March of 2023, Deadline broke the news that Flanagan had scheduled another Clayface pitch meeting, this time with DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran. And at the end of last year,...

Holy Night: Demon Hunter Ending Explained: Who Is The Man In The White Cloak?
Image
I’m at a bit of a loss for words as I sit down to write this, not because Holy Night: Demon Hunter lacks spark, but because I can’t quite process the supernatural horror-action gloop I’ve just witnessed. Lim Dae-hee’s film aims for the kind of stylized fun you get from films like Hellboy or Constantine, where exorcisms and demon battles lean into pulpy entertainment. Instead, Dae-hee’s flick throws too many ingredients into the pot, and what comes out tastes like a spaghetti bowl from hell. You’ve got your likable squad taking on supernatural forces, fronted by the sheer force of Ma Dong-seok, but the...

The Long Walk First Screening Shocks Audiences With 200+ Heart Rates(Photo Credit –Facebook)

2025 has been an exciting year so far for horror fans. Danny Boyle returned with his post-apocalyptic zombie sequel 28 Years Later, and most recently, Zach Cregger delivered Weapons. And the year is far from over.

Now, an upcoming film called The Long Walk is making waves among horror enthusiasts. At its first screening, the film reportedly disturbed audiences so much that their heart rates spiked to unusually high numbers. The makers...

The Long Walk first reactions promise an intense, brutal, emotionally impactful Stephen King movie
Last year, an adaptation of the Stephen King novel The Long Walk (which was, like The Running Man and Thinner, published under the pen name Richard Bachman) went into production, with director Francis Lawrence, whose previous credits include Constantine, I Am Legend, Water for Elephants, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Parts 1 and 2, Red Sparrow, Slumberland, and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, at the helm. Lionsgate will be releasing the film on September 12th – and today, we have a batch of first reactions to share with you. Keanu Reeves' Assassin Flick Dethrones Stephen King's 77% Rotten Tomatoes Horror Hit on Streaming

Keanu Reeves has given us many mind-bending movies, be it The Matrix, Constantine, the Bill and Ted franchise, and while the actor has done all kinds of roles, he’s best known for his action, which found its epitome in the John Wick franchise. Hailing from franchise director Chad Stahelski, the movies always find a new way to increase John’s kill count and newer ways to add his pawwsome yet lethal furry friends.

And now, per FlixPatorl, John has taken down a supernatural foe as John Wick: Chapter 4 grabs the top spot on Hulu charts, dethroning Stephen King's hit horror adaptation The Monkey, starring Theo James, which had...

Superman Digital Release: 15 DC Movies It Overthrew at the Box Office Prove James Gunn Isn’t a Failure
Image
James Gunn’s Superman was released on digital and PVOD on August 15, a month after the film’s theatrical release. Despite it not being a billion-dollar hit, it is still a major success, making fans wonder why the film was coming out so early. Gunn clarifies that it was due to Peacemaker season 2’s release (via Variety).

The film did great at the box office, with its worldwide gross at the time of writing being $586 million (via The Numbers). While not a huge hit like The Dark Knight trilogy or even Man of Steel, Gunn’s Dcu film is not a failure, as it has fared much better than a whole bunch of DC adaptations. Gunn’s Superman has surpassed 15 DC movies that were released since 2000, in terms of box office performance.

7 Upcoming Horror Novel Adaptations That We Can’t Wait to See
Image
There’s a vast world of horror beyond movies out there, especially in the literary space. So much so that novels frequently inspire new horror adaptations, whether brand new publications or enduring horror lit classics.

In a year that’s already delivered an adaptation of Stephen King’s The Monkey and Adam Cesare‘s YA slasher novel Clown in a Cornfield, there’s still plenty more on the way.

Here are seven upcoming adaptations of horror novels that we can’t wait to check out.

The Long Walk – September 12

The first Stephen King adaptation arriving in the back half of 2025 is a doozy based on King’s 1979 novel of the same name. Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend, Constantine) directs from a script by Jt Mollner (Strange Darling). The R-rated film centers on a grim annual contest in which 100 teens must journey, nonstop and under strict rules, until only one is left alive.

Upcoming Horror Movies Releasing Soon (2025)
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

In a continually volatile theatrical landscape, horror remains a reliable genre for achieving breakout box office success. As the tastes of moviegoers continue to evolve and shift, with changes now long-established by the normalization of streaming and the emergence of superhero fatigue, it's often the budget-friendly space of the horror genre where studios will find projects of the lowest risk. Whereas we're seeing the likes of "Fantastic Four: First Steps" fail to live up to amazingly ballooned budgets, movies like "Final Destination: Bloodlines" are securing reliable profits.

Between films like "Weapons," "Together," "28 Years Later," "Bring Her Back," and, of course, "Sinners," 2025 has already seen a number of horror features that have been breakouts critically and commercially, as the genre continues to evolve and work as a mainstay that general audiences will dependably show up to cinemas for. When pulling...

Zach Cregger Says His ‘Resident Evil’ Movie Exists ‘Outside’ of the Original Characters Because Fans ‘Already Have That’ With the Games: ‘I’m Not Going to Tell Leon’s Story’
Image
Zach Cregger remains adamant about not remaking any story within the “Resident Evil” saga for his big-screen adaptation.

Although he wants to have an original plot, the “Weapons” director told Inverse that he’s “not breaking the rules of the games.”

He continued, “I am the biggest worshiper of the games, so I’m telling a story that is a love letter to the games and follows the rules of the games.”

Cregger will direct the movie based on the hugely popular horror video game franchise. He has written the script alongside his co-writer, Shay Hatten. Constantin Film is producing and co-financing the film.

Constantin’s Robert Kulzer, Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Miri Yoon and PlayStation Productions are also producing.

Cregger is set on creating a project that is “outside of the characters of the games,” but he reassured fans that the game’s roots will be respected.

Ben Zazove & Evan Turner Tapped To Pen ‘Space Invaders’ Film For New Line Based On Taito Arcade Game
Image
Exclusive: New Line has enlisted screenwriters Ben Zazove and Evan Turner to pen a Space Invaders movie, inspired by the classic Taito arcade game, Deadline has learned.

No word yet on specifics, as to the story they’re spinning here. Weed Road Pictures’ Akiva Goldsman will produce alongside Safehouse Pictures partners Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell, with Greg Lessans & Rachel Wizenberg overseeing for Weed Road, and Matt Schwartz overseeing for Safehouse Pictures.

One of history’s most iconic arcade games, and one of the pioneering titles in the shoot ’em up gaming genre, Space Invaders tasks players with defending Earth from an alien invasion, shooting down waves of invaders moving across the screen before they reach the ground. Tomohiro Nishikado developed the title, released by Taito in 1978.

Space Invaders‘ commercial success has been described as the catalyst for the golden age of arcade gaming in the late ’70s and early ’80s.

John Wick 5: Keanu Reeves Can Make Up for Constantine 2 With Franchise’s Underused Villain
Image
The villainous role that iconic actor Peter Stormare couldn’t flesh out in John Wick 2 now has a shot at redemption as Keanu Reeves gears up for John Wick 5. As Abram Tarasov, Stormare’s Russian don lived on the sidelines of the story, coming out of the shadows only once in the initial scene to wax poetics about our titular assassin’s brutality with a pencil, and was never seen again.

However, this is not the only time the actor was underused in his potential as a villain. In Constantine, he had hardly 10 minutes of screentime playing Satan against Reeves’s titular exorcist/demon hunter. Although Stormare continues to be undermined, underused, and underrepresented in these films, it is finally time to pay up on that front by bringing Abram Tarasov back in John Wick 5.

Fortunately for Reeves, Stormare’s return can also smooth over the fandom’s open wound about the long-delayed sequel,...

The 12 Best Magic-Based Superheroes From Both Marvel And DC Comics, Ranked
Image
The respective worlds of Marvel Comics and DC Comics aren't always associated with magic and sorcery. Some of the biggest characters from either franchise run the gamut from otherworldly aliens (Marvel's Captain Marvel and DC's Superman), technologically-capable geniuses (Marvel's Iron Man and DC's Mister Terrific), and even just straight-up powerless vigilantes (Marvel's Daredevil and DC's Batman). However, both comic book giants also have plenty of characters whose powers are less super and more archaic.

These powerful individuals from both franchises include some of the strongest superheroes to ever grace the pages of a comic book, and cover a wide variety of magic types. There's those who are given their powers by a god or deity, those who master the ways of sorcery and witchcraft, and those who are just simply born with the latent ability to manipulate matter and bend the universe to their will. These are the 12 best magic-based...

‘The Batman II’ Writer “Begged” to Write Sequel To Beloved 46% Rotten Tomatoes Keanu Reeves Classic

Among Keanu Reeves’ most iconic characters is John Constantine. Constantine came out at a time when the superhero genre thrived in gritty and grounded storytelling, and John was the epitome of it, so now that the genre is at its peak, the announcement of Constantine II came as a delightful surprise for fans. Not only Reeves but also director Francis Lawrence and writer Akiva Goldsman are also attached to return. However, there is another writer who is aching to write a Constantine story—The Batman II scribe Mattson Tomlin.

Constantine 2: Game of Thrones’ Most Exciting Spinoff Writer Wants Keanu Reeves’ Sequel
Image
Mattson Tomlin, popularly known for his work on The Batman Part II, and the Game of Thrones spinoff series Aegon’s Conquest, is currently eyeing the dark, moody character of John Constantine. Yep, with an unflinching love for comic book adaptations and bold storytelling, Tomlin is hoping to work on Constantine 2.

The DC character was previously played by Keanu Reeves in the 2005 action flick Constantine. Since then, the character has become a cult classic over the years. After all, who can get over Reeves’ chain-smoking, trenchcoat-wearing exorcist, who’s winning hearts for his cynical charm and apocalyptic adventures?

So far, even Mattson Tomlin has expressed interest in the character. Now, let’s see if there’s any update waiting for us on this matter.

Mark Hamill Plays His Most Evil Character Yet in New Stephen King Film: 'Unlike Anything I've Done'
Image
Mark Hamill rose to fame with his performance as the heroic Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, but his newest role takes the actor to the other end of the spectrum. He plays the villain in The Long Walk, a new dystopian horror film based on a Stephen King story that's coming to theaters on Sept. 12.

Per DiscussingFilm, Hamill was present at San Diego Comic-Con to help promote the film. He spoke about the dark nature of his "sadistic character," referred to in the story as the Major. While Hamill has voiced the Joker for many DC projects, he still feels like playing the Major was very dark in its own way, and that even attracted the actor to the role in the first place.

Mark Hamill tells us about playing potentially the most villainous character of his career in ‘The Long WALK’:“He’s sadistic and all those terrible things.

When you think about comic book movies, what often comes to mind are Marvel titles like The Fantastic Four: First Steps and the new Superman movie. You can even think about lesser-known titles like Hellboy and Constantine, but your mind will rarely float towards a movie like Red 2. The action-comedy flick was first released in 2013, and if you remember nothing about it — or if it simply flew off your radar — you will have an excellent opportunity to watch it next month. The movie is debuting for free on Vizio+ on August 1.

The story of the Red franchise is uncommon but extremely entertaining. It follows a group of retired CIA agents who are forced back into action when old enemies start to resurface. The story is based on a comic book series created by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner, which was originally published by the DC imprint Homage Comics. The...

Although a trailer was just recently released , Sdcc attendees got to see a new trailer, which was introduced by a video of Stephen King (he’s not at Sdcc). JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray said it’s a “very cool trailer, has the shocking image of seeing Mark Hamill use the F-word. Does a good job...

German box office flatlines in first half of 2025 but Steve Coogan starrer ‘The Penguin Lessons’ impresses
Image
The German box office flatlined for the first six months of this year.

Cinema takings increased by just 0.1% to €371.1m for the first half of 2025, compared to €370.8m for the same period in 2024, according to data collated by Comscore/Rentrak Deutschland.

The number of tickets sold to July 2 fell by 3.3% from 37.8 million to 36.6 million, although an increase in the average ticket price from €9.80 to €10.14 helped to make up for the downturn in admissions.

The figures show the German box office still remains well below its pre-pandemic highs. In the first six months of 2019, the box office stood at €430.7m from 49.1 million tickets sold.

Zach Cregger
Future Resident Evil director Zach Cregger has never seen the other movies
Zach Cregger
Zach Cregger, writer/director of Barbarian (watch it Here) and the upcoming film Weapons, which is scheduled to reach theatres on August 8th, is set to direct a new Resident Evil movie for Sony, aiming for a September 18, 2026 theatrical release. Little is known about Cregger’s approach to the video game adaptation, but during a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Cregger said he thinks his movie is going to “rip” – and admitted that he has never seen the other Resident Evil movies.

We’ve previously heard that Cregger is writing the screenplay with Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead) and the story apparently harkens back to the original Capcom game’s horror roots. The story is rumored to center on a down-on-his-luck courier who’s tasked with delivering a package to a remote hospital. En route, he finds himself caught in the middle of a viral apocalypse and forced to fight hordes of mutated creatures.

Mike Flanagan
Naomi Ackie may be the female lead in Clayface
Mike Flanagan
And at the end of last year, it was announced that Flanagan is officially writing a Clayface movie that will be part of the DC Universe film franchise that’s being overseen by Gunn and Safran. A few months ago, Speak No Evil director James Watkins was hired to take the helm,...

The Writer Who Killed the Dog — and Lived to Tell the Tale
Image
If you were to create a superhero alter ego for Akiva Goldsman, you could do worse than the Master of Multitasking. The writer/producer/sometimes director has spent decades juggling a half-dozen projects at a time, with his lengthy list of credits — including The Client, Batman Forever and The Da Vinci Code — amassing more than $4.73 billion in global ticket sales, a tally worthy of Titan status. On television, he has been a key force in Paramount’s Star Trek universe as co-showrunner of the fan favorite Strange New Worlds, which bows season three July 17.

Today, Goldsman, 63, keeps working at a dizzying pace at his Weed Road banner, with sequels to I Am Legend, Practical Magic and Constantine set up at Warners, while at Mattel he’s penned a Major Matt Mattson movie for Tom Hanks — based on the astronaut toy figure — and is producing a Monsters High movie, which has cast Kim Kardashian.

Keanu Reeves Turned Down A Huge Marvel Role – But Why Did He Walk Away From The MCU?
Image
Keanu Reeves Refused A Marvel Role (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Keanu Reeves once dodged a Marvel gig. While most A-list names were sprinting toward superhero flicks during Marvel’s peak, Reeves, cooler than cool with a resume that includes both time-traveling teen goofball and trench coat-wearing hacker messiah, politely stepped aside. He wasn’t just loosely considered either. According to Hypebeast, the role of Yon-Rogg in Captain Marvel was straight-up offered to him on a silver platter. And still, he walked away.

Keanu Reeves Passed On Marvel’s Yon-Rogg Role

Now, flashback to 2019: Captain Marvel was gearing up to launch Brie Larson as the MCU’s powerhouse heroine, and Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige was assembling a strong bench of talent. However, the part Jude Law eventually played was originally meant for none other than Keanu Reeves.

He was gonna play Yon Rogg and thank god he wasn’t wasted.

The Marvel Role That Keanu Reeves Turned Down
Image
It has been over 17 years since the Marvel Cinematic Universe officially launched with "Iron Man." Although superhero films were already gaining more prominence within the mainstream throughout the early to mid-2000s -- thanks to the success of "X-Men," "Spider-Man," and "Batman Begins," among others -- the summer of 2008 was where the genre solidified itself as a definitive aspect of our popular culture. The one-two punch of "Iron Man" and "The Dark Knight" was an inflection point in superhero cinema, further legitimizing it to critics and audiences alike, much of which can be attributed to the fact that Robert Downey Jr. and Christian Bale headlined both films. Both were well-respected actors in the industry, who took what many have dismissed as "kids' stuff" and brought them to life with full dimension.

Although the trajectory of both Marvel Studios and DC Films (which has since become DC Studios) in the...

The Sci-Fi Flop That Keanu Reeves Couldn't Believe He Made
Image
In Andrew Davis' 1996 thriller "Chain Reaction," Keanu Reeves plays Eddie Kasalivich, a machinist at the University of Chicago who is overseeing a special scientific experiment to turn hydrogen into energy. Eddie isn't a genius, but he knows how the water-filled chain reaction chamber works. Then, one night, he accidentally discovers an obscure sound frequency that stabilizes the experiment and gets it to succeed. It seems that the world's energy supply issues are going to be solved.

Of course, this immediately kicks off a shadowy cover-up wherein the chain reaction chamber is blown up by unknown conspirators and Eddie is framed for the destruction. (The explosion takes out eight full city blocks.) Innocent scientists are killed, so Eddie has to go on the run with a physicist named Lily, played by Reeves at-the-time-future "Constantine" co-star Rachel Weisz. Naturally, they must find a way to prove their innocence and discover who would...

James Gunn Reveals New Lobo And Krem Supergirl Details; Talks Kyle Rayner And Constantine In The Dcu
Image
The Dcu kicked off with Creature Commandos, while Superman and Peacemaker season 2 will follow this summer. The one thing they all have in common is that they're either written or directed (sometimes both) by James Gunn.

In contrast, next year will see the filmmaker hand the Dcu reins to several different filmmakers thanks to the launch of Lanterns, Supergirl, and Clayface. As DC Studios co-ceo, Gunn will produce all of them, so he remains pretty hands-on.

In a new DC Showcase interview, he heaped praise on Supergirl helmer Craig Gillespie. "Craig is such a joy to work with. I was really excited to get to work with him, and he's been just a dream in terms of collaborating...fighting for his ground...when you have an idea that you believe, you really fight for it."

The filmmaker was also asked about casting Milly Alcock as the Maiden of Might (a...

John Wick: How a movie that almost went direct-to-dvd became iconic
Image
One really has to hand it to Keanu Reeves. The guy has a knack for starring in zeitgeist-defining action films, with him leading Point Break, Speed and The Matrix. Yet, perhaps his most iconic character, John Wick, is the most unlikely success story of them all. It was seen as an upstart indie flick which came close to going direct-to-video, only for it to become one of the most successful action franchises of all time, and a property that’s unlikely to die anytime soon, even if its own hero’s survival is kind of up in the air right now post John Wick 4. With Keanu Reeves reprising the role in Ballerina, now’s a good time to look back at how this little action franchise that could came to be.

Flashback to the fall of 2014. Keanu Reeves, while already a legend, was struggling to reinvent himself as a now middle-aged star.
