It’s well-known that One Piece and its main character, Luffy, have strong influences from Brazil. However, the revelation that Capoeira played a role in Luffy’s new Gear 5th form surprised many fans.

Animation director Vincent Chansard, who worked on various episodes, openings, and specials of the One Piece franchise, shared that he drew inspiration from Capoeira for Luffy’s Gear 5th transformation, also known as the Fifth Gear.

Chansard took to Twitter to explain his thought process: “Over time, in the manga, Luffy feels like a pretty all-rounded Mma fighter with boxing at his core, using punches, kicks, some grabs, but not many open-hand techniques.” he wrote.

While antagonists like Kaido and Big Mom were strong, they at least weren’t immortal and regenerate their limbs. In Chapter 1146, Gunko grew back immediately after Usopp’s attack, and the leaks for Chapter 1147 confirm that all the God’s Knights have it.

Considering the Five Elders share these powers, it’s not far off to assume Imu, the hidden monarch, might have it too. We know they have been around since the Void Century, so in addition to regeneration, their immortality and eternal youth will make them an even bigger nuisance.

There are three known Haki in One Piece: Color of Observation Haki, Armament Haki, and Conqueror’s Haki. While usage of Haki itself is pretty rare, plenty of main characters in the series are experts at it. The rarest case is housing all three Haki at once.

Some of the characters who are known to use the three Haki are Luffy, Zoro, Ace, and Shanks, among others. But a One Piece theory suggests that a fourth Haki exists, and Eiichiro Oda will be keeping this a secret till the grand finale of One Piece.

A One Piece animator has teased the peak of a key arc and fight in the popular anime.

The long-standing franchise, over 1000 episodes strong, is currently embroiled in the "Wano" arc. The story is highlighted by the arrival of 5th Gear Luffy and his fight with the mighty dragon Kaido. Even without the 5th Gear, the anime has been praised for how the two's clash has been rendered on screen. Exclusive: Discovery’s long-running motoring format Fifth Gear is to relaunch as an Electronic Vehicle (Ev) show and has installed former Top Gear host Rory Reid to present.

Fifth Gear: Recharged will air episodes weekly on streamer Discovery+ in the UK and UKTV network Quest later this year as All3Media-owned producer North One looks to take advantage of colossal growing interest in EVs, which has quickened due to the current UK gas crisis.

The original Fifth Gear ran for 28 seasons, first on Channel 5 and then Discovery channels History and Quest, before ending two years ago.
