Director Rob Reiner spoke about the highly-anticipated sequel to his legendary "rockumentary" This Is Spinal Tap in a new interview with Empire. Among the topics discussed was how Spinal Tap II was "unlocked" 40 years after the original.

Along with being one of the most quoted films of all time, This Is Spinal Tap was at the vanguard of the mockumentary genre in its portrayal of washed-up, over the top rock stars. The movie’s stars — Christopher Guest (Nigel Tufnel), Michael McKean (David St. Hubbins), and Harry Shearer (Derek Smalls) — would go on to make other such films as Best in Show and A Mighty Wind.

But it’s been four decades since Guest, McKean, Shearer, and Reiner revisited the "topsy-turvy world of heavy rock," as Spinal Tap’s manger Ian Faith, played by the late Tony Hendra, says in the 1984 film. So what changed?

Diane Delano, the busy character actor who portrayed Officer Barbara Semanski on CBS’ Northern Exposure and the mean science teacher Bobbi Glass on The WB’s Popular, has died. She was 67.

Delano died Friday of cancer in her home in Sherman Oaks, her friend Stepfanie Kramer announced.

“She was big and bold and brought her sharp wit and perfect comic timing to every role,” Kramer said. “Her earthy and raucous presence enabled her to always own the room. She was one of a kind.”

As Rhonda Vasek, Delano had a romantic liaison with Douglas Brackman Jr. (Alan Rachins) in 1987 on the second season of NBC’s L.A. Law, and she guest-starred on such other shows as Falcon Crest, Cop Rock, Step by Step, Third Rock From the Sun, ER, Monk, Six Feet Under, Cold Case, The Bridge, 2 Broke Girls and PEN15.

Diane Delano, an American actress best known for her roles in “Northern Exposure” and “The Wicker Man,” has died. She was 67.

Delano died on Friday night after a battle with a brief illness, according to her rep.

Delano appeared as Officer Barbara Semanski in 12 episodes of the CBS sitcom “Northern Exposure” and played the role of Sister Beech in the 2006 remake of “The Wicker Man.”

Her other notable credits include shows like “Popular,” where she played Roberta “Bobbi” Glass, and “Days of Our Lives,” where she played Agent Hilda, an FBI operative tasked with protecting Sami Brady. Her film credits include “Miracle Mile,” “The Ladykillers,” “A Mighty Wind” and “Out of These Rooms.”

Delano also lent her voice to a number of animated projects, such as “Batman: The Brave and the Bold,” “Infinity Train,” “Teen Titans” and “Rugrats.”

Today sees the release of Strange Darling in theaters and if you’re a fan of cinema then you need to get your ass to a theater as soon as possible. Because there’s an element of the film that must be seen to be believed. And that’s not even getting into the wonderful performances from stars Kyle Gallner and Willa Fitzgerald. It’s a family reunion at the Emmys, as Eugene and Dan Levy are in talks to host the 76th kudocast on ABC, taking place Sept. 15 at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles.

The father-son duo, who co-created “Schitt’s Creek” and each won Emmys for it, are currently in negotiations with the Television Academy, and a deal has not yet been struck, sources tell Variety. Neither the Television Academy, nor representatives for the Levys, returned Variety‘s request for comment.

Eugene and Dan Levy have presented together at awards ceremonies, including the 2020 SAG Awards, and once guest-hosted “Ellen” as a duo.

Sad news to report today as it has been confirmed that legendary character actor Bill Cobbs has died at the age of 90. The actor’s publicist, Chuck I. Jones, told TMZ that Cobbs passed away at his home in Riverside. He recently celebrated his 90th birthday. Cobbs leaves behind an incredible body of work, with memorable roles in movies such as The Hudsucker Proxy, The Bodyguard, That Thing You Do!, Ghosts of Mississippi, Night at the Museum, and so much more.

After serving for eight years in the U.S. Air Force, Cobbs sold cars and worked for Ibm before he decided to give acting a try. After appearing in various theater productions, he made his feature film debut in The Taking of Pelham One Two Three. “I came back home to see my mom and dad, and all our friends and neighbors went to see the movie, and everyone was waiting for my appearance,...

A native of Cleveland who excelled at comedy as well as drama, Cobbs portrayed Whitney Houston’s manager in The Bodyguard (1992), the older brother of Medgar Evers in Rob Reiner’s Ghosts of Mississippi (1996), a jazz pianist in Tom Hanks’ That Thing You Do! (1996) and the Master Tinker, builder of the Tin Woodsman, in Sam Raimi’s Oz the Great and Powerful (2013).

This Is Spinal Tap is one of the most quotable films in cinema history and defined the genre of film known today as the mockumentary.

Rob Reiner’s 1984 directorial debut about an aging English metal band chronicled fame, groupies and their fateful tour and would set the bar for the style of film to satirize a subject depicting fictional events but presented as a documentary. They often use the conventions of traditional documentaries, such as interviews and narration, to tell a fictional or exaggerated story.

The 77-year-old Canadian actor and comedian received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday (March 8).

Guest speakers at the event included Eugene‘s Schitt’s Creek co-star Catherine O’Hara and the actor’s daughter Sarah Levy.

Jennifer Coolidge accepted the Comedic Genius Award during the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards on Sunday.

After showing a montage of clips from some of the actress’ most iconic roles, Coolidge took to the screen in a pretaped video to show her appreciation, saying, “Thank you, MTV. Thank you for honoring me with this incredible Comedic Genius Award. Wow. Wow.”

She said the award was even more special because she gets to “be in the club” with previous Comedic Genius Award recipients, including Jack Black, Sacha Baron Cohen, Melissa McCarthy, Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell.
