Sheela is a chirpy college girl in love with the artist Mohan. They keep enacting dramas and are very active in art together . She keeps posing for his portraits. They get intimate on many occasions. Her family has no objections to this relation. They stall marriage as their studies are still going on . He goes to Calcutta for furthering his studies and career promising to return soon .

She waits for him eagerly . After a couple of letters they come to know bad news about him. Shocked and sad , they give time to Sheela to heal. She realises that she cannot love any one else and starts dressing and living as his widow. Despite her parents showing her many grooms , she refuses marriage .

Her friend Lalitha gets married to her younger brother. Time passes. They have two kids together. Several decades later , Sheela still refuses to get married. She stops all activities of art . She was active in drama, diction, music and dance during her college days with Mohan.

She takes up the role of the family matriarch .

Pangs of mother hood keep tormenting her . She adopts her niece . That little child forces her to start singing again .

One day a lady visitor comes to her house hearing her songs on Radio.

She introduces Sheela to her son saying he is her big fan . Sheela is shocked to see him look exactly like Mohan. Turns out that Mohan had married in Calcutta while staying as a guest in her house . Now with Mohan gone , the two women understand and empathize with each other. Sheela gives Mohan's ring to his son in the final scene . A very poignant movie with Sheela spending her entire youth in memory of her lost love . Soman and Vijaysri come in a short role as a cute couple .

Lalitha looks cute with 2 plaits as Sheela's close friend and confidante. Later she wears sarees as her SIL and mother of 2 kids . Her role is as big as Sheela's . Mohan is tall and lithe . His act as an obsessed artist is super . The duets he sings with Sheela are of special mention.

Sheela looks slightly old for a college girl's role .She wears mostly whites as a widow . The whole movie is about Sheela waiting and pining for her love forgetting herself . A poignant movie .
