John Fogerty is set to release a new album filled with re-recorded versions of some of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s most iconic songs. Titled Legacy: the Creedence Clearwater Revival years, the album is set to drop Aug. 22 from Concord.

Fogerty officially announced the new album live during his 80th birthday concert Wednesday night at the Beacon Theatre in New York. Legacy features 20 songs including famed tracks like “Bad Moon Rising,” “Fortunate Son,” “Down on the Corner” and “Proud Mary” among others.

All the song’s are labeled “(John’s Version),” a not-so-subtle nod to the famous “(Taylor’s Version)” moniker Taylor Swift has adopted as she’s been releasing re-recorded versions of her first six albums due to the controversy around the sale of her catalog. Fogerty already released the “(John’s Version)” editions of “Up Around the Bend,” “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” and “Porterville,” available on streaming platforms today.

John Fogerty has taken a cue from Taylor Swift and re-recorded some of his biggest hits and deep cuts from his days in Creedence Clearwater Revival. Those 20 tracks have been collected into his new album, Legacy: the Creedence Clearwater Revival years, out August 22nd via Concord.

Co-produced by Fogerty with his son Shane Fogerty, Legacy features beloved songs including “Proud Mary,” “Fortunate Son,” and “Have You Ever Seen the Rain.” Both Shane and his brother, Tyler Fogerty, perform throughout the album, accompanying their father’s newly re-recorded vocals. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Fogerty joked that he “lobbied very much” to call the project Taylor’s Version, referring to Swift’s series of re-recorded albums after her back catalog was sold to Scooter Braun. Although Fogerty reclaimed a majority interest in the Creedence Clearwater Revival publishing catalog in 2023, this did not include his master recordings.

The potential offshoot was quietly in development and launched via a backdoor pilot that aired as The Equalizer Season 5, Episode 16 (“Sins of the Father”) on Sunday, April 20. The episode introduced Welliver as Elijah Reed, a former elite CIA operative with a dark past, and Feliz as his daughter Samantha, a highly skilled weapons expert and martial artist raised in the shadows of espionage. Ares, scheduled for theatrical release on October 10 2025, is the third installment from the Tron movie franchise, which also includes Tron (1982) and Tron: Legacy (2010).

The basic premise from the Tron movies revolves around the internal digital world of the Tron gaming system, where Programs battle Users from the real world. Generally, Users remain in the real world, and Programs remain in the Grid—the digital world. In the Grid, Tron (created by Encom programmer Alan Bradley) is a security program that fights Programs (portrayed by Bruce Boxleitner) on behalf of Users in death battles that feature Disc Wars and Light Cycle Races.

The mind-blowing aspect of Tron when it first hit theaters in July 1982 was that it portrayed a world inside a video game—a true digital world. Watching Jeff Bridges as "Flynn" jump from game to game in a completely abstract universe required imagination. Yet, no one could conceptualize the idea of that cybernetic world leaving the mainframe of a video game and entering the streets of suburbia.

That's what makes the trailer to Tron: Ares so fulfilling. The second of the trilogy, Tron: Legacy, was woefully underrated. Tron: Ares is the highly anticipated third installment in the Tron franchise and follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.

The film is a follow-up to Disney’s 1982 seminal science fiction film Tron and the 2010 sequel, Tron: Legacy. Released in December 2010, Legacy grossed $409.9 million worldwide, with $172.1 million coming from North American theaters and $237.8 million from international markets.

The feature film is directed by Joachim Rønning and stars Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, and Cameron Monaghan, with Gillian Anderson and Jeff Bridges.

Disney shared a 5-minute sneak peek of Tron: Ares with CinemaCon attendees in Las Vegas yesterday afternoon. However, we don't have much longer to wait before getting our first proper look at the long-awaited Tron and Tron: Legacy follow-up.

The studio has shared a brief teaser for the movie (via SFFGazette.com), confirming that the full trailer will arrive tomorrow.

At CinemaCon, lead star Jared Leto reiterated that this movie will bring Tron into the real world, and the aforementioned preview showed Ares on his red-tinged light cycle zooming through a real city pursued by police cars who are no match for his speed.

There's some scepticism surrounding Tron: Ares, no great surprise when that first instalment remains so beloved. The same could have been said about Legacy once upon a time, though, and fans have been demanding a follow-up to that for years.
