Takes its title from the famous film serial Os Perigos de Paulina (1914). There was also a movie version, Minha Vida e Meus Amores (1947). People who argue that it couldn't be based upon a movie that hadn't came out yet are thinking of the third version, Os Perigos de Paulina (1967), and mistakenly imagining that it was the only film using that name.
