Snooker legend Willie Thorne was offered the role of Bunny
Little known Irish actor Gerard Kellet was considered for the role of Git but had to pull out due to a scheduling conflict.
Bunny is regularly seen reading a pulp Western novel, and the film has many of the conventions, such as the use of a six-shooter, and the chapter headings are in pulp style, as well as the quotation from 'high' literature that begins it.
Peter McDonald's feature film debut.
The title is seen in the initial quote: "I went down to the Peiraeus yesterday with Glaucon, the son of Ariston.--Plato, The Republic" Glaucon argues in the Republic that 'justice' is merely what benefits the powerful, which is also of course the rule in the criminal underworld. Additionally, the characters discuss travelling to Cork as "going down," and at the end Git mentions to Sabrina that he 'went down' on the girl he met at the hotel.
