Jodie Foster can go years without making a movie.

“I’m picky,” she admits. “I’m not really interested in acting just for the sake of acting. It has to really speak to me.”

Christmas favorite Elf arrived on the streamer at the end of November ahead of the holiday season, and Miracle on 34th Street (1994) started streaming on Hulu Dec. 1. Ben Stiller’s new film Nutcrackers also provides a more modern Christmas story.

'Tis the season for everyone's annual holiday movie watch (and/or re-watch), that magical time of year where we gorge ourselves on all manner of films that take place in and around the holidays. For some cinephiles, this means delving into the darkest depths of "is it a Christmas movie because it has one scene with a decorated tree in it?," while for others, it means a first-time or 70th-time viewing of canonized holiday classics. One of the joys of watching a vintage Christmas film for the first time is seeing some of your favorite actors turn up looking impossibly young. For instance, this writer just watched 1995's "Home for the Holidays" the other night, and was delighted to see a younger Robert Downey Jr. doing his signature motormouth patter.

While that film is a bit obscure in the holiday canon, "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" is a movie that almost needs no introduction.

Last month saw streaming platforms settle into their annual cozy season with new fall TV shows and autumn film favorites. This December, Hulu and Disney+ are hunkering down with premieres for several animated TV series, a solid selection of holiday fare, and feel-good movies both old and new.

Disney+ will bring its classic characters together for “Mickey and the Very Many Christmases” as well as “Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade.” It will also premiere “The Simpsons Christmas Double Episode,” “Doctor Who: Joy to the World,” and “CMA Country Christmas” to honor the season. Top non-holiday picks include the return of “Marvel Animation’s What If…?” (kicking off December 22 with new episodes premiering daily for eight days), “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew,” and “Elton John: Never Too Late.”

Over at Hulu, the divisive new horror flick “Cuckoo” starring Hunter Schafer is set to stream alongside a robust catalogue of various other movies.

The Paramount+ Holiday Collection ‘Tis The Season for Streaming returns to the service today with hundreds of seasonal movies and beloved specials for the whole household to enjoy, including the debut of the streaming service’s first original holiday film, Dear Santa.

The Farrelly Brothers holiday comedy Dear Santa stars Jack Black, Robert Timothy Smith, Keegan-Michael Key, Brianne Howey, Hayes MacArthur, and Post Malone in a story of a young boy who mails his Christmas wish list to Santa with one crucial spelling error, resulting in a devilish Jack Black’s arrival to wreak havoc on the holidays. The film premieres on November 25 exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S. and the following day in the UK and Australia.

Exclusive: I Could Eat – Part 1, the first installment of a new two-part comedy special from Lavell Crawford, is set to premiere across platforms via Comedy Dynamics tomorrow, debuting in album form on Friday, October 25.

In Part 1, the trailer for which you can view above, Crawford contemplates how My 600 Pound Life could go for 15 seasons and he’s still underweight, the kind of racist you have to be to not take a free holiday, and explosive consequences in a Taco Bell bathroom.

It’s hard to think of an actor managing his career after leaving a franchise better than has Robert Downey Jr. And that makes his announced return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe — in which he’ll be playing the villainous character Dr. Doom in forthcoming “Avengers” sequels, as announced this weekend — come as a surprise.

Jodie Foster is opening up about her filmmaking process and why she never fully “fell in love” with the acting side of the industry.

During a recent conversation with Jodie Comer for Interview magazine, the Oscar winner admitted she’s “not naturally an actor.”

“I just got stuck in it when I was three,” she explained. “I probably would’ve been a lawyer or a college professor. It’s just not my way. So I loved the technical sides of filmmaking, but I never fell in love with the acting part. It was against my nature, and I think has made me a richer person because of it.”

Today, Paramount+ announced that Academy Award winner Holly Hunter will star in the upcoming original series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy as the captain and chancellor of Starfleet Academy.

The series will follow the adventures of a new class of Starfleet cadets as they come of age in one of the galaxy’s most legendary places. Produced by CBS Studios, it will begin production later this summer.

The full list of 51st Annual Daytime Emmy nominations was announced on Friday morning, April 19, at 9:00am Pacific/12:00pm Eastern by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). Scroll down to see who made the cut in all 40 categories. Winners will be announced live on Friday, June 7, at 8:00 pm Eastern/delayed Pacific, on CBS, and available to stream live and on-demand on Paramount+. The Daytime Creative Arts and Lifestyle Emmy Awards will be presented on Saturday, June 8, and streamed on the Emmys apps and at watch.TheEmmys.tv. The ceremonies will take place at the Westin Bonaventure Los Angeles.

NATAS President and CEO Adam Sharp said in a statement, “We are happy to once again honor the creative talent both in front of and behind the camera of America’s favorite Daytime programs. We look forward to celebrating the icons who enliven the days of audiences across the country.

All of the nominations are in for the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards, which will air live in June 7 on CBS and Paramount+. See the full list below.

African Queens: Njinga. Netflix’s docuseries about the warrior queen of Angola, is tied with three daytime drama staples — CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless and Peacock’s Days of Our Lives — with a dozen noms each. ABC stalwart General Hospital is next with 11.

The Kelly Clarkson Show leads the talkers with nine noms, ahead of The View with 7.

Some of the first time nods included Downey’s Dream Cars on Max (Best Lifestyle), Selena + Chef: Home for the Holidays on Food Network (Culinary Series); the Australian import Neighbours on Amazon Freevee (Daytime Drama) and Extraordinary Birder with Christian Cooper on Nat Geo.

Robert Downey Jr. is sharing his thoughts on the Jimmy Kimmel joke about him at the Oscars and seems unfazed by it.

The Oppenheimer actor won an Academy Award for his role in the Christopher Nolan-directed film. Earlier that night, Kimmel made a joke at Downey Jr’s expense and referred to his past struggles with addiction, calling Oscar night “one of the highest points” of his career.

At the award show, Downey Jr. joked back as cameras caught him reacting by laughing and pointing to his nose while miming to “keep it moving.” In a new interview, the actor was asked about the joke again.

“I don’t care,” Downey Jr. told Esquire. “I love Jimmy Kimmel. I think he’s a national treasure.”

The Iron Man star has been open about his past addiction struggles and in the same interview, Jodie Foster says she was “scared” for him.

The year is 2003. Robert Downey Jr. had just undergone a court mandated rehab to come out of his crippling drug addiction. His tryst with addiction had been holding his career growth back for quite some time. Fast forward 21 years. He’s a different man.

He’d be arrested the following year for possession of heroin, cocaine and an unloaded gun.
