Oscar Nominee Filmmaker Threw the Script of Peter Weller’s $54 Million Movie in Trash Before His Wife Changed His Mind
Image
Peter Weller has been in some of the most acclaimed films of the 80s and 90s. He starred in Buckaroo Banzai, Mighty Aphrodite, The New Age, and Naked Lunch. In the 2000s and 2010s, he played Christopher Henderson and Stan Liddy in the fifth seasons of 24 and Dexter respectively. In film, he most popularly appeared as Alexander Marcus in 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness.

People over the years have mostly associated Weller with his iconic role of Alex Murphy in 1987’s RoboCop. The thrilling and thought-provoking sci-fi flick became a groundbreaking yet misunderstood film at the time, similar to Blade Runner. However, director Paul Verhoeven initially felt the script was too alien to him and far removed from his previous works.

French New Wave: A Revolution In Design & The Groundbreaking Film Posters That Defined The Era
Image
The French New Wave, or La Nouvelle Vague is one of the most important movements in film history. Its fresh energy and vision changed the cinematic landscape during the 50s and 60s and greatly impacted pop culture. The new wave of cinematic auteurs was on the rise and pushed back on the traditional form of filmmaking, instead focusing on social realism, experimentation, and depicting everyday life through the lens.

At the forefront of this movement were French directors François Truffaut, Francoise Bonnot, Éric Rohmer, Jacques Rivette, and Jean-Luc Godard who pushed visual and stylistic techniques. These included a move away from traditional storytelling by applying nonlinear narrative techniques, jump cuts, and handheld cameras that impacted cinema around the world and influenced a new movement of cinema in the United States.

This volume French New Wave: A Revolution in Design celebrates the groundbreaking poster art in selling these Nouvelle Vague films...

In Honor of Chloe Zhao’s Historic Win at Golden Globes: Here Are 10 Amazing International Female Directors
Image
Photo: The Who's Who of the Prestigious International Female Directors List In honor of, and beyond, Women's History Month. The world of film is, unfortunately, still something of a man’s game. This is a problem that is finally being given attention and even solutions to, but part of the issue is that women not only receive less opportunity but less recognition for their work. This is a loss to all, considering the amazing work being put out by women from all over the world. The men have had their turn - now, let’s take a look at ten amazing international female directors. #1 Agnès Varda (France) Agnès Varda was the most famous female director to come out La nouvelle vague, otherwise known as the French New Wave. Varda wrote and directed several features over her career, including the now iconic ‘Cleo from 5 to 7’ and ‘Vagabond’. Later, she...

A Bout De Souffle & 9 Other Great French New Wave Movies
Martin Scorsese at an event for Golden Globe Awards (2010)
One of the most influential movements in cinematic history, the French New Wave revolutionized cinema forever, influencing the work of directors like Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino. Titled La Nouvelle Vague in French, the French New Wave was born alongside the existential movement, at a time when French intellectuals struggled to find meaning in a post-wwii world. La Nouvelle Vague Went against the conventional Hollywood standard, by focusing on what is truth. Its directors attempted to capture the reality of the human condition and human emotion.

As a result, the genre rid itself of more complicated Hollywood production techniques. Instead, it made use of natural lighting and sound, handheld cameras, improvised dialogue, a lackluster emphasis on plot and narrative structure, and shooting on location. The French New Wave was also distinctly known for a post-production editing style of jump cuts.

Film News: Adam West, the 1960s TV Batman, Dies at 88
Los Angeles – When Adam West had a voice role on “The Simpsons,” portraying the Batman – as he had in the iconic TV series from 1966 through 1968 – he remarked, in reference to the rubber muscle costume that the movie actors wore, that his Batman was “All Pure West.” West died on June 9th, 2017, at the age of 88.

His career had three acts – first as a movie/TV contract performer, then as the title character on “Batman” in 1966, and then, after a struggle to go beyond that hero role, as a notable voice actor… most famous as Mayor Adam West on the animated series “Family Guy.” For years, as he was struggling with the inability to get jobs because of his brilliantly weird and cartoonish portrayal of The Dark Knight, he tried to shake the character. But as his career blossomed again, and The Batman took off in movies, he re-engaged with his superhero self,...

Owen – Hart Of Gold DVD Review: 14 Things You Should Know
WWE.com

The upcoming ‘Owen – Hart Of Gold’ is WWE’s most controversial DVD / Blu Ray release of the year.

Available from December 7th, the biggest selling point is the first ever long form profile of Owen Hart by the company since his death in 1999, which for many WWE fans – particularly the internet wrestling community – will make the DVD an interesting one.

Since Hart tragically died from the accident at the Over The Edge PPV in 99, Owen’s wife Martha has taken legal action to try to prevent the company from releasing any action figures, DVDs or any other merchandise bearing his likeness. Earlier this year, WWE decided to go ahead and produce a feature DVD set on the star without his widow’s approval.

I was concerned about watching this documentary because I’ve always felt that Martha should have the right to Ok this project and without her...

10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Road Dogg
WWE.com

As the ‘Road Dogg’ Jesse James, the one-time Brian Armstrong carved a legacy for himself in WWE history. The man’s real name is actually Brian James, but he’s part of the well-known Armstrong wrestling family. His father, Bob wrestled with the surname, so all 4 of his sons, Brian, Brad, Steve and Scott took on the moniker also. It wasn’t until Road Dogg had been in the industry for over a decade that he got his first major run.

Making his then-wwf debut in 1994 as ‘The Roadie’, the man worked alongside Jeff Jarrett. Acting largely as a manager, he was something also allowed to show what he could do inside the ring. That said, it would be another few years before the Road Dogg character was created. That particular persona gave the wrestler more stature, and he became part of D-Generation X.

Forming ‘The New Age...

WWE Raw: Results & Review (19.01.15)
So here we are, only a week away from the official launch of the Road to WrestleMania, the 2015 Royal Rumble. The Rumble is one of my personal favourite wrestling shows annually, and has been since I started watching professional wrestling 22 years ago. Let’s see if this episode of Raw, being promoted as a “Reunion Edition”, will be able to get some extra interest on that show.

Brock Lesnar, along with Paul Heyman, comes out first and Brock calls out Rollins due to what Seth did to him (curb stomp anyone?) at the close of last week’s show. Instead of Rollins, Triple H comes out and tries to calm Brock down. Lesnar asks Trips if he wants to fight. Heyman amusingly screams “he pays the bills” to Brock during all of this. Stephanie, along with Kane and Big Show comes down, and tries to appeal to Lesnar to calm down too.

Digital Fury: DVD Essentials for April

John Dies at the End (2012) Magnolia Home Entertainment Blu-ray and DVD Available Now

Finally, a new Don Coscarelli movie! After years of waiting, the cult auteur comes back with a lively adaptation of David Wong’s popular novel. A drug that induces an out-of-body experience sends its users across time and other dimensions. When some of them come back not quite human, an otherworldly invasion is set into motion. Suddenly, college dropouts John (Rob Mayes) and Dave (Chase Williamson) find themselves in an epic battle to save the world. Coscarelli’s surreal visual flair and black comic bent are in full effect here. Hopefully, its critical success will ensure that the beloved filmmaker won't have to wait another ten years to make a film.

Special Features:

· Feature-length audio commentary by Coscarelli, Williamson, Mayes and producer Brad Baruh

· Seven deleted...

'Robocop' And 'Naked Lunch' Star Peter Weller Latest Addition To J.J. Abrams' 'Star Trek' Sequel
Is J.J. Abrams pulling a Christopher Nolan? The latter director has become known in recent years for putting faded 1980s icons in his films, from Rutger Hauer in "Batman Begins" and Eric Roberts in "The Dark Knight" to Tom Berenger in "Inception" and Matthew Modine in the upcoming "The Dark Knight Rises." Hell, he even gave David Bowie a part in "The Prestige." But now it looks like Abrams, arguably his biggest competition in terms of the new guard of super-directors, is getting in on the act. Variety report that Abrams has cast Peter Weller, who came to fame as the star of "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension" and "Robocop," as well the lead in more offbeat films like David Cronenberg's "The Naked Lunch" and Michael Tolkin's "The New Age," in his soon-to-shoot sequel to 2009 blockbuster reboot "Star Trek," joining Alice Eve and Benicio Del Toro as.
