Released the same year as the theatrical movie Os Amores de Moll Flanders (1996). The miniseries received critical praise for being more faithful to the book and generally better written.

This adaptation moves the setting of the novel forward a few decades. In the novel, adding up the dates reveals that Moll first goes up to London in the late 1630s, and begins her career as a thief in the 1660s. In this movie, however, these events are associated with Moll attending two plays, "The Country Wife" (1675) and "The Way of the World" (1700). The costumes are appropriate to this later period.

During her several nude scenes, ice was used to enable Alex Kingston's nipples to stand out.

Daniel Craig appeared in 007 - Operação Skyfall (2012), 007 Contra Spectre (2015), and 007 - Sem Tempo para Morrer (2021) with Ralph Fiennes, Alex Kingston's ex-husband.

This mini-series was the fourth screen adaptation of Daniel Defoe's 1722 novel, 'The Fortunes and Misfortunes of the Famous Moll Flanders'.
