‘The Penguin’ Season 2: Everything We Know So Far
Image
When The Penguin hit HBO, it didn’t just blend into the crowd — it strutted in with a thick Gotham accent and a trench coat full of secrets. A gritty spin-off from The Batman universe, the show zoomed in on Oz Cobb, the sneaky schemer better known as Penguin, and gave fans a front-row seat to his climb through Gotham’s shady crime world. Colin Farrell absolutely disappeared into the role, making the entire dark, bloody, and chaotic mess feel raw and addictive.

Season 1 had everything — betrayal, ambition, power plays — and viewers couldn’t look away. Even though the first season wrapped up last year, whispers about a second one just won’t stop. People want more — more Oz, more chaos, more Gotham. So far, HBO hasn’t confirmed anything, but speculation is alive and kicking. Whether it returns or not, The Penguin has definitely left its mark as one...

'I Don't Want It': Colin Farrell Addresses a Potential Second Season of The Penguin
Image
After scoring a SAG award for his performance as Oswald "Oz" Cobb in HBO's The Penguin, Colin Farrell addressed whether he wants to return for a second season and the answer might come as quite the disappointment for fans of the show.

Speaking with Variety at the SAG Awards, where Farrell won the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a TV Movie or Limited Series, the actor addressed whether he wants to return for The Penguin Season 2 if it were given the green light. While he stipulates that if given the right story he would consider returning, the actor made it clear that he isn't interested in pursuing a second season just because the first season was a massive success.

Timothée Chalamet, Demi Moore, And Conclave Win Big At The 2025 SAG Awards As Oscars Race Heats Up
Image
Almost as soon as it's begun, awards season is rapidly approaching its end already. But before the red carpet gets rolled back up for another year after this coming Sunday's Oscars, last night we got to see Hollywood's finest gather at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California for the 2025 SAG (Screen Actors Guild) Awards — hosted by Nobody Wants This' Kristen Bell. Unfolding in the aftermath of last month's devastating LA wildfires, an emotionally charged ceremony saw Timothée Chalamet, Demi Moore, and Edward Berger's Conclave emerge as the night's biggest winners, taking home Best Actor for Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, Best Actress for The Substance, and Best Ensemble Cast respectively.

Given The Brutalist star Adrien Brody's recent successes at both the BAFTAs and the Golden Globes, as well as a host of other industry/guild/critics' circle awards, Chalamet's win was arguably the biggest surprise of the night.

Colin Farrell gives encouraging update on The Penguin season 2 following SAG Awards win
Image
From the moment The Penguin season 1 came to an end, fans have been eagerly waiting for confirmation from HBO on whether the breakout series could return for a second season. And we can’t fault fans for their eagerness to see another season of the series.

Without giving too much away for those who somehow still have not watched the series, let’s just say that season 1 went out with quite a bang. The first season was one of the best superhero genre programs to ever grace the screen and The Penguin has become a rare series within the space to receive both critical and fan acclaim, becoming one of the most celebrated comic book series in TV history.

The show and its talented cast have wracked up a growing list of accolades since the season ended including the man behind Oswald 'Oz' Cobb: Colin Farrell. Farrell delivered a...

The Penguin's Accolades Continue Piling Up With 2 More Big Wins at Critics' Choice Awards

The Penguin had a great night at the Critics' Choice Awards, picking up two major acting wins. This follows a plethora of previous accolades garnered by the hit HBO show.

The event, which marked the 30th annual ceremony for the Critics' Choice Awards, was held in Santa Monica, California, on Feb. 7. The Penguin was up for four awards, ultimately picking up big wins for two. It was up for Best Limited Series, an award that went to Netflix's Baby Reindeer. Deirdre O'Connell had also been nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Francis Cobb, the mother of the titular supervillain, but Baby Reindeer star Jessica Gunning nabbed that award.

10 DC Movies & Shows That Totally Change On A Rewatch
Image
The DC Universe has a lot of films and series that may require a rewatch or two in order to get the most value out of them, for one reason or another, changing significantly on a second viewing. Compared to other superhero properties, DC movies and TV shows seem altogether more willing to take risks with their production, not content to sit back and reap the rewards of a "safe" narrative custom-built to please fans. Whether this is a good or a bad thing remains up in the air, as revisiting certain DC projects can often reveal.

DC movies and TV shows can change dramatically on subsequent viewings for one reason or another. Some rich narratives simply require multiple viewings to get the full amount of enjoyment out of, whereas others are more interesting with the context of future films or behind-the-scenes drama that is more clearly evident the second time around.

Today's a Great Day for Batman Fans
Image
The 2022 version of The Caped Crusader has just landed on Prime Video on Dec. 1. The Batman, directed and co-written by Matt Reeves, starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/The Batman, is new to the platform in December. The film was nominated for three Academy Awards in 2023 and spawned the HBO original series, The Penguin.

The Batman co-starred Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle, Jeffrey Wright as Lieutenant James Gordon, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and a nearly unrecognizable Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb/The Penguin. It earned more than $772 million worldwide against a budget of $185-200 million and currently has a “Certified Fresh” 85% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Penguin Vs The Riddler Is Set Up As The Batman Part II’s War For Gotham
Image
Warning! This post contains Spoilers for The Penguin

A major war between The Penguin and The Riddler has been set up for The Batman - Part II. While both classic DC villains were introduced in 2022's The Batman as foes of Robert Pattinson's Bruce Wayne, It's hard to see Edward Nashton (Paul Dano) and Oz Cobb (Colin Farrell) ever working well with each together. Furthermore, The Penguin has potentially set up a way in which they could even become direct rivals in the upcoming sequel.

As seen in The Batman by director Matt Reeves, Edward Nashton was put behind bars after killing mob boss Carmine Falcone (whom Oz Cobb worked for). However, The Penguin has confirmed that Riddler's followers are still out there, even after they tried killing Mayor-Elect Bella Reál and triggered Nashton's flood which caused city-wide devastation at The Batman's ending. To that end, it's been suggested...

The Two Things Colin Farrell Won't Miss About Playing The Penguin
Image
When "The Batman" dropped back in 2022, Colin Farrell's Penguin became an instant fan-favorite, mainly because he provided some of the only comic relief in Matt Reeves' relentlessly dingy neo noir. So popular was Farrell's wise guy rogue that he was given his own show, with Warner Bros. and Reeves doubling down on the character's appeal as a way of expanding the universe established in the film. "The Penguin" debuted two years later, beating Marvel at its own game with a series that stands on its own as an HBO premium drama but which also provides valuable connective tissue between "The Batman" and the upcoming "The Batman: Part II."

For Farrell, it seemed as though inhabiting a character he clearly had a ball playing in Reeves' film was going to be equally enjoyable. The actor spoke about having "unbridled fun" playing The Penguin in "The Batman" and had a...

'The Penguin' Star Colin Farrell Hated Himself for That Shocking Finale Death
Image
Warning. The following contains spoilers for The Penguin Episode 8!

The Penguin's final episode upset the entire fan base for all the right reasons. After besting Sofia Gigante (ne Falcone) and sending her back to Arkham Asylum, Oz Cobb (Colin Farrell) culled the last semblance of "weakness" from his life when he killed his closest friend, Victor Aguilar (Rhenzy Feliz). As it turns out, Farrell hated the scene as much as audiences did.

Speaking at a Q&a following a screening of The Penguin's final episode (via Variety), Colin Farrell and Rhenzy Feliz broke down shooting the heartbreaking scene. The shocking moment comes just after the pair have their most vulnerable and emotional interaction in the entire season. Feliz said Vic and Oz's complicated masculinity meant neither could explicitly say "I love you" to the other, though the feeling is communicated when Vic likens Oz to family. But it all...

The Batman Director Reveals Oz Cobb and Selina Kyle's Scrapped Subplot
Image
This article contains Major Spoilers for The Penguin Episode 8, "A Great or Little Thing."

The Penguin's titular villain transcended his previous depictions in film and comics. Now that Season 2 is on the table, a continuing story could revive one of Oz Cobb's unresolved frustrations.

Oz Cobb was more invested in Selina Kyle than The Batman led audiences to believe. Director Matt Reeves said this was Oz's implicit backstory in The Penguin; it also explains the villain's deep motivations. "Oz will never be sated in trying to achieve power, and a thing in the movie which we cut out where Oz clearly had these feelings for Selina," he told THR. "And when he realized she didn't return them, he tells her, 'One day, this city's going to be mine.' And he said it in a very unsettling way." That scene would have made Oz's story more compelling in The Penguin,...

The Worst Characters In The Penguin, Ranked
Image
The Penguin has officially completed its run on Max, giving fans one of the best DC shows in years as it details the rise of Oz Cobb to a prominent position in the Gotham City underworld. As a direct followup to The Batman and the next installment of Matt Reeves's Epic Crime Saga, the series delves deeper into Gotham and the rampant corruption that rules its streets.

Taking notes from crime series like The Sopranos, The Penguin isn't the kind of series that makes you cheer for its characters. The personalities depicted in the DC series are the worst of the worst, liars, cheats, and murderers who would do anything for their gain. While some characters simply make questionable choices, others are full-blown villains whose presence makes Gotham a more dangerous place.

With The Penguin Finale, DC Just Beat Marvel At Its Own Game
Image
Holy spoilers, Batman! This article discusses major events from the season finale of "The Penguin."

The flood waters have receded, the dust has settled, and Oswald Cobb's power-hungry Penguin is now exactly where we thought he'd be following his final scene in "The Batman" — left with nothing standing in his way for control of the city's criminal underworld. The eight-episode run of HBO's "The Penguin" lived up to its billing as "The Sopranos" in Gotham, adding all sorts of complexity and deeper layers to the one-dimensional, yet always entertaining mobster played by Colin Farrell in director Matt Reeves' 2022 blockbuster. Viewers who tuned into the spinoff series have been given a satisfying character study, detailing how an overambitious mama's boy turned into an insecure man hellbent on proving everyone wrong throughout his murderous rise to power. But for those who'll only ever end up watching the original movie and its planned...

What will The Penguin’s role be in The Batman sequel?
Image
Just because Bruce Wayne won’t be appearing in HBO’s The Penguin doesn’t mean Colin Farrell will be waddling away from the movie’s sequel. Only, Farrell is light on any details, not even fully confirming just what The Batman follow-up has planned for Oz Cobb, if anything.

As played by Farrell, Oz Cobb aka The Penguin was a breakout character, something that those behind the scenes had a feeling would be the case, as his spinoff series was in talks before The Batman even hit screens. With the show itself now an insanely popular hit and one of the best-reviewed in years (read our 10/10 review here), it’s almost assured that he’ll be developed even further. As Farrell put it, “I have no idea what the second film is gonna be. I heard Penguin features in it. I haven’t read it. It’d be interesting...

The Batman's Next Villain Getting a Spinoff After The Penguin Reportedly Revealed
Image
Fans are absolutely loving Matt Reeves' The Batman spinoff TV series The Penguin, which will soon air its final episode on HBO and Max. A new report has purportedly revealed the identity of the next iconic Batman villain to get a spinoff in the Reevesverse.

Jeff Sneider revealed via The InSneider that Reeves has big plans for Barry Keoghan's Joker, who made a brief cameo at the end of The Batman. Sneider cited Devin Faraci's Marvelvision podcast in stating that The Joker TV series will be set between The Batman Part 2 and The Batman 3, the latter of which Keoghan's Clown Prince of Crime will appear as the main villain. The series will act as a bridge between the two films, much like Collin Farrell's The Penguin is doing for The Batman and the upcoming installment, which will begin shooting next year. Sneider is often a reliable source of information,...

Warner Bros. Rumored To Have Big Plans For Barry Keoghan's Joker After The Batman
Image
DC is about to triple down on its villains. Director Matt Reeves won all sorts of acclaim for his fresh new take on the Caped Crusader in 2022's "The Batman," but it's fair to say that star Robert Pattinson ended up upstaged by the big bads layered throughout the script: Paul Dano's Riddler with his David Fincher-inspired approach, John Turturro's creepy mob boss Carmine Falcone, and especially Colin Farrell as the scene-stealing Penguin, Oswald Cobb (a character so appealing that he's since been spun off into his own successful "The Penguin" series on HBO). But don't forget that there was even a last-minute tease for another major DC antagonist with Barry Keoghan's Joker, who received even more screen time in a deleted scene that Warner Bros. dropped soon after the film's release. The speculation since then has been that the upcoming "The Batman: Part II" would focus...

The Batman 2's Perfect Villain Was Hiding In Plain Sight
Image
The perfect villain for the upcoming DC Universe Elseworlds movie, The Batman - Part II, has already been set up during 2024's The Penguin series. Matt Reeves' The Batman, released in 2022, kick-started a new renaissance for the Caped Crusader, as Robert Pattinson's darker and grittier version of the Dark Knight investigated Paul Dano's Riddler, who had been targeting the wealthy elite of Gotham City. While the Riddler was featured as The Batman's primary antagonist, the movie also introduced several other iconic Batman villains from DC Comics.

This new Batman universe has recently been developed further in HBO's The Penguin series, which stars Colin Farrell reprising his role of Oswald "Oz" Cobb, a.k.a. the Penguin. The Penguin is expected to cement the titular villain as the kingpin of crime in Gotham City, which will surely have an impact on Matt Reeves' upcoming The Batman - Part II,...

The Penguin's Episode 1 Ending Song Was Way Deeper Than You Realize - 9 To 5's Real Meaning Explained
Image
Warning: This article contains Spoilers for The Penguin episode 1

The Dolly Parton song played at the end of The Penguin episode 1 perfectly captures where Oz Cobb's path is leading him in his DC solo series. HBO's The Penguin introduces the most complex version of the villain ever put on screen so far, with a short temper and a twisted mind, but also with empathy towards the people he feels identified with and an aversion towards terrorists like the Riddler. Oz Cobb is an inherent part of Gotham's criminal underworld in The Batman universe, but The Penguin reveals that he's far from being the most powerful gangster in Gotham.

Expanding Matt Reeves' The Batman franchise, The Penguin adopts a similarly grounded tone and realistic stakes. Gone are the top hat and the monocle from the comic books, as well as the inhumanly long nose and the black blood from Tim Burton's Batman Returns.

'I'm Done': Colin Farrell Glad to Stop Playing Oz After The Penguin Filmed

When the credits rolled on The Batman, many fans wished director Matt Reeves had included more scenes with one particular rogue. Actor Colin Farrell revealed at a press conference for the HBO series based on the character, he shared that desire. However, after playing Oz Cobb for eight hours over the run of The Penguin, Farrell might just be over playing the character.

Colin Farrell's doubtful future as Oz isn't due to the heavy prosthetic makeup needed to bring him to life. During the press conference, Farrell and makeup designer Mike Marino talked about crafting the look the character. They were inspired by real-world gangsters from the early 20th Century, as well as the "strong brow" and "beak" of real-life penguins. Farrell had to work long hours on The Penguin because it took three hours to complete his transformation. Removing it took significantly less time, 45 minutes, but after a long...

The Penguin trailer teases what's next in The Batman universe spinoff series starring Colin Farrell. The Penguin show begins following the events of The Batman movie, showcasing Oz Cobb. The DC TV show premieres on HBO in September.

A new The Penguin trailer showcases more of Colin Farrell's DC spinoff series in The Batman universe. While the world waits for The Batman - Part II updates, Matt Reeves' Elseworlds-based franchise is getting ready to grow, but on the small screen. Reprising his role from The Batman, Farrell's The Penguin offshoot will pick up right after the ending of the 2022 film.

With the release of The Penguin being less than two months away from premiering on HBO and Max, the cast was present at this year's San Diego Comic-Con for a special Hall H presentation. As part of their Hall H panel, a new trailer for the upcoming series was released,...

‘The Penguin’ Brings Crime-Ridden Trailer to Comic-Con
Image
Few TV leads can say they endured more to get into character than Colin Farrell, the handsome leading man who endured 3 1/2 hours of makeup every day to transform into the unrecognizable Oz Cobb for The Penguin.

Now the fruit of all those hours sitting in the makeup chair is about to bloom, with the show getting the closeup at San Diego Comic-Con during a prime Saturday spot. HBO used the event to launch a new trailer for the show, which bows Sept. 19 on HBO and Max and received huge applause after it played to the Comic-Con crowd. The series was initially set to be a Max original but moved under the HBO umbrella — meaning it will both run on the cable channel and stream on Max — as part of a branding and strategy shift.

The Penguin marks an expansion of the universe of Matt Reeves’ The Batman, the 2022 hit that...

The Batman's New Spin-Off Has Officially Changed The Penguin's Name
Image
The Penguin spin-off series is changing the character's name to Oz Cobb for a fresh take. The new name boosts character flexibility and separates the show from traditional Batman lore. Contrary to other villains, The Penguin didn't have a real name in DC Comics for years.

The Penguin spin-off officially changes the name of the iconic Batman villain ahead of the new series, and it makes a lot of sense. Ahead of the release of Matt Reeves' The Batman in 2022, news broke about a distinct universe being built around the character through spin-offs like The Penguin series (via Variety). When the film debuted, and Farrell's performance in the role was finally unveiled, excitement for the new series exploded, but precious few details about the show and what could be expected were released.

Then, when the Dceu was retired and the upcoming Dcu spearheaded by James Gunn was announced, the...

White Men Can't Jump Teaser Trailer: Sinqua Walls And Jack Harlow Are Ready To Play Ball
Image
To paraphrase Wesley Snipes circa 1992, "I only have [five] words for you: 'White Men Can't Jump' [remake]." That's right, you favorite comedic basketball hustlers, or a 2023 facsimile of them, are back in a Hulu original film that's coming your way this May. It's been over 30 years since Snipes issued his immortal declaration to Woody Harrelson about the slam-dunking abilities, or lack thereof, of white guys on the b-ball court, and now a new generation of actors and filmmakers is here to update the story for the streaming age.

We first heard about the "White Men Can't Jump" remake way back in early 2017, so it's been gestating for a while, with "black-ish" creator Kenya Barris attached to write. NBA player Blake Griffin and former NFL player Ryan Kalil are set to produce alongside Barris through their production company Mortal Media. In late 2021, we finally got an update on the project with the news that Calmatic,...

Spider-Man: No Way Home Whiteboard Decoded: What Does It All Mean?
Image
After all this wait and a day of decoding the fake titles Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, and Tom Holland posted earlier on their respective Instagram accounts, we finally have the official title for the third Spiderman film, and it's called Spider-man: No Way Home. And that was some cool way to reveal the title as well. Not via an official announcement, but via a short video in which Spider-Man stars discuss how Jon Watts gave them fake titles earlier. As the actors discuss how Holland has previously given spoilers, the camera leaves them and zooms in on a whiteboard where the executives have written different title suggestions before settling down for No Way Home. Take a look a the reveal below:

And here's that whiteboard that's giving out hints for us geeks to decode.

Or probably they are all jokes from Jon Watts and the other producers.

Match #1: Madison Rayne defeated Sumie Sakai and Jenny Rose in a Triple Threat Match The following is courtesy of rohwrestling.com:

For The Postseason: Joe E. Brown As Alibi Ike
If you’re a baseball fan, particularly if you’re a Dodgers, Astros, Cubs or Yankees fan, the real baseball season started this past Friday with the inauguration of the American and National League Championship Series. I’m a Dodgers fan, which means I’m among that group who, arguably, have gone the longest without the satisfaction/excitement/nail-biting terror of seeing their team in the World Series, the next step for whoever wins in the Nlcs. The Dodgers last appeared in the World Series in 1988, capping a memorable run with a championship by beating the Oakland A’s. That was 29 years ago. The Cubs are the reigning Mlb champions, having won last year’s World Series after a 107-year drought. And the Yankees, a mainstay of the World Series around the turn of this century, last appeared in an October championship series in 2009.

The only team to come close...

Jim Carrey at an event for O Incrível Mágico Burt Wonderstone (2013)
Batman Forever: Jim Carrey Says Tommy Lee Jones Hated Him On Set
Jim Carrey at an event for O Incrível Mágico Burt Wonderstone (2013)
Jim Carrey was recently on Norm MacDonald Live where he revealed that Tommy Lee Jones hated him when they were making Batman Forever together. Carrey was playing the Riddler while Jones was playing Two-Face in the Joel Schumacher directed movie. The movie was seen as divisive after the Tim Burton movies with Michael Keaton starring as Batman, though it was not universally hated like the next installment in the franchise, which has definitely not aged well, so don't bother going back for a nostalgic viewing. Anyway, while Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones were getting ready to do a scene together, Jones decided to tell Carrey about his true feelings.

Jim Carrey has talked about the subject before in the past, but the subject came up again when Norm MacDonald asked him about it. Carrey maintains that he still has nothing but the utmost respect for Tommy Lee Jones, but...

Fargo: Uma Comédia de Erros (1996)
'Fargo': A Guide to the Show's Coen Brothers' References
Fargo: Uma Comédia de Erros (1996)
There's a moment early in the new season premiere of the FX crime drama Fargo when a parole officer recalls how he met his fiancée, a slick hustler named Nikki Swango (played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead). As the episode flashes back to Nikki at a police station, getting booked and photographed, fans of filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen might experience some deja vu. The situation, the way it's shot, and even the way the crook gets yanked around by the authorities – it's all right out of the Coens' 1987 comedy Raising Arizona.

White Men Can’t Jump is getting a remake
Simon Brew Jan 18, 2017

The Wesley Snipes/Woody Harrelson basketball comedy White Men Can’t Jump is getting a remake next...

We know that nothing cheers you all up like a story of a remake of a film you like, so let us take a minute to assume the position before we pass this nugget on.

Ready?

Yep, the 1992 basketball comedy White Men Can’t Jump, starring Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson, is now in line for a big screen do-over. It’s in the hands of Kenya Barris, the creator of Black-ish, and 20th Century Fox is backing the project, as it did the original.

Ron Shelton, who was also behind classy sporting movies such as Bull Durham, Tin Cup and Cobb, wrote and directed the original film. He isn’t believed to be involved in the new version.

Instead, Kenya Barris will both produce the project and pen the new screenplay.

Best Baseball Movies
In the midst of March Madness and with the Kentucky Derby around the corner, the first pitch of baseball season is almost here.

A quote from Field Of Dreams best describes America’s national pastime, “The one constant throughout the years has been baseball.”

To mark the start of the 2016 season, here’s our list of the Best Baseball movies.

The Bad News Bears

Considered by some to be the best baseball movie ever, the film celebrates its 40th anniversary this month (April 7, 1976). In an article from the NY Daily News, one line reads, “It is a movie that someone like the late Philip Seymour Hoffman called his favorite, and one which resonates on many levels today, with all different generations.”

Who are we to argue with greatness?

After skewering all-American subjects such as politics (The Candidate) and beauty pageants (Smile), director Michael Ritchie naturally set his sights on the...

Click here for Part 1! (#100-76)

Click here for Part 2! (#75-51)

Click here for Part 3! (#50-26)

The first decade and a half of the 21st century has brought a lot of changes to the landscape of film. The advancement and sophistication of computers has made realistic computer generated effects a mainstay in both big-budget and small-budget films. The internet and streaming technologies have given big Hollywood new competition in films produced independently and by non-traditional means. We went from purchasing films on yards of tape to plastic disks, and now we can simply upload them to the cloud. Advertisements for films have reached a higher, more ruthless level where generating hype through trailers and teasers is crucial for a film’s commercial success. Movie attendance has fluctuated along with the economy, but that hasn...

It’s Opening Week: Best Baseball Movies
Is this heaven? Nope, it’s Opening Week.

Recently Mlb rounded up a group of players to recite, word for word, James Earl Jones’ famous “people will come, Ray” speech from Field Of Dreams.

Wamg declares America’s national pastime, Baseball, to be the official sport of movie fans everywhere. As Brad Pitt said in Moneyball, “How can you not be romantic about Baseball?”

It all started Sunday night with the Cardinals at the Cubs with St. Louis winning 3 to 0.

To celebrate the first pitch of Opening Week, here’s our list of the best Baseball movies.

The Rookie

One of the best baseball biopics to come along over the years, The Rookie, starring Dennis Quaid, tells the true story of Jim Morris, a man who finally gets a shot at his lifelong dream-pitching in the big leagues.
