To raise some much needed funds, college student Charlie (Anthony Del Negro) is assigned to house sit for cat-obsessed couple Evelyn (Cerina Vincent) and Rodney (Jordan James Smith). The house owners appear pleasant and friendly and the job seems fairly straightforward, with Evelyn stressing just one thing: don’t let the cat out.
Charlie has been alone for only a few minutes when things start to get weird, discovering a further list of directions concerning the care of the cat and then running up against a masked intruder, who attacks Charlie’s friend Travis (Sterling Sulieman) shortly after he shows up. Looks like there’s something far more serious going...

Samuel L. Jackson is like that friend who shows up to every party and somehow steals the spotlight without even trying. We know him as the badass with the booming voice, the guy who can rock an eyepatch in the MCU, and the smooth operator who made Pulp Fiction unforgettable. But when someone’s in everything, we sometimes overlook the little gems hidden in their filmography.
Samuel L. Jackson in The Marvels (Credits- Disney)
Sure, Jackson’s the king of blockbusters and franchises, but what about those offbeat, under-the-radar performances? The ones where he didn’t have a lightsaber or a billion-dollar CGI budget backing him up. These are the movies where Jackson flexed his chops, got weird, took risks, or just straight-up reminded us why he’s a one-of-a-kind talent.
The man has range for days, and it’s almost criminal how many great films of his slip through the cracks.

2025 is in full swing, and with March just around the corner, it’s time for you to look ahead at the movies and series scheduled to depart Netflix throughout the month of March. The biggest notable TV series leaving is The Mindy Project, while hit films like Scooby-Doo and Love Again, among others, are also set to depart.
As always, Netflix’s library is constantly evolving. That means new titles are always on the way, but because Netflix licenses titles from big distributors, they’re not always on Netflix forever. When this license (or rental period) comes to an end, the movie or series leaves Netflix.
Note: This list will be constantly updated throughout February as we learn of more series and movies set to leave (typically 30 days before their departure). In the last few weeks of the month, Netflix...

Before you read a 40th anniversary piece about the 1985 film “Vision Quest,” it would be malpractice to not watch star Matthew Modine as Louden Swain jogging along in a rubber suit to the sounds of Journey’s “Only the Young.”
Anyway, you’re in luck, here’s a link to that scene right now:
“There’s a song from a band named Pony Up, they wrote a song called ‘Matthew Modine,’” said Modine during a recent interview with IndieWire, reflecting on this particular scene. “And they talk about me running in my jogging suit and how they want to sexually violate me. It’s a filthy song, but it’s really funny. It came out when my son was in high school and he was just absolutely horrified because all his friends were listening to it. That’s not what you want to hear.”

Al Pacino was 31 when he played Michael Corleone in The Godfather, but the character was only 25. In The Godfather Part III, Pacino was 49 while the character, Michael Corleone, was 59 years old. Despite the age difference, Pacino's portrayal of Michael Corleone in The Godfather trilogy remains iconic.
Al Pacino played Michael Corleone throughout the three movies of The Godfather trilogy, but the actor’s age didn’t always match that of his character. Adapted from the novel of the same name by Mario Puzo, The Godfather trilogy is a sprawling crime epic that follows the rise and fall of an Italian-American mob family. The saga focuses on Al Pacino’s Michael Corleone as he takes over from his father, Vito Corleone. The Godfather's ending sees Vito die and pass on his legacy to Michael, while The Godfather Part II flashes back to Vito’s early adulthood to fill in his story.

Al Pacino starred in Sea of Love in 1989 after a four-year hiatus and gave a box office hit with his neo-noir crime thriller. Pacino’s last film before Sea of Love, Revolution, was a critical and commercial disaster. But it was Diane Keaton who put him back on the top of Hollywood by offering him Harold Becker’s movie. Before barging into his lawyer’s office and saving his career, she called him an idiot to his face in front of his lawyer.
Diane Keaton and Al Pacino shared a great friendship from working together in The Godfather films
Al Pacino played an NYPD detective in the film trying to catch a serial killer who targets and kills their victims through the singles column in a newspaper. The film, made on a budget of $19 million, grossed over $110 million at the box office.

Brian De Palma’s “play nice” films—in which he shows that he can groove to the strictures of pop cinema while reinvigorating formulaic stories with his formal gifts—often have an acrid aftertaste. While watching The Untouchables or Mission: Impossible, the De Palma acolyte may sense the artist’s resentment at having to impersonally flex his mastery. Carlito’s Way, though, is an exception.
Working from a vivid screenplay by David Koepp, adapted from two novels by Judge Edwin Torres, De Palma embraces the romantic possibilities of mainstream cinema, using his skill to deepen the audience’s engagement with melodrama rather than to interrogate it. The 1993 film is an increasingly endangered bird—an intelligent and beautiful entertainment for adults—that was taken for granted by many at the time.

Al Pacino says he doesn’t remember much of the 1970s. So, The Godfather, Serpico, Scarecrow, Dog Day Afternoon, …And Justice For All are some of the greatest movies ever, let alone of the 1970s: all a blur. But unfortunately, he remembers Gigli and 88 Minutes, Revolution, Righteous Kill, and too many more all too well. He is a guy that always goes over the top, and sometimes it results in brilliance and other times, it causes Mr. Pacino to become a parody of himself. But is his legacy strong enough, and is Al in the middle of another comeback?
It’s a diverse career of ups and downs and whatever he was thinking with Jack and Jill. And so let’s find out: Wtf Happened to… Al Pacino?

Al Pacino had a rough 1980s. After riding high off of one of the most titanic runs in Hollywood history throughout the 1970s, with highlights like The Godfather I and II, Serpico, And Justice For All, and Dog Day Afternoon, the well ran dry real quick for Pacino once 1980 hit. Except for Scarface, which was a modest hit at the box office, every film he made was either more notorious for its controversies, like Cruising, or a complete dud that no one remembers, like Revolution. Not to mention he took a huge four-year break from film acting to do more theater work, and get in touch with his roots, so to speak. Once that period was over, he came back in a big way with the film that arguably saved his stardom from being in jeopardy: Sea of Love.

Juno was a smash-hit indie that launched the career of its star, Elliot Page, and it features a wealth of songs that match the movie's quirky tone. Released in 2007, Juno tells the story of a precocious teen named Juno MacGuff whose accidental pregnancy lead her to connect with an eager family who wants to adopt her baby. Not afraid to touch on difficult topics, the movie effortlessly blends comedy and drama together and captures real life without sacrificing its unique spirit. Nearly every scene of Juno is underscored with memorable tunes.
A box office smash, Juno grossed over $200 million against a minuscule budget (via Box Office Mojo), and was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Its pop culture impact went even further than its financial and critical success, helping to launch a wave of indie movies in the late 2000s that capture the hipster aesthetic. Ellen Barkin alleges that Sea of Love director Harold Becker forcefully tore off her merkin during production.
Barkin, who currently appears in Rian Johnson’s new series, Poker Face, starred in the 1989 neo-noir thriller alongside Al Pacino and John Goodman.
In a recent interview with HuffPost, Barkin said she felt powerless to react to abusive behaviour from men in Hollywood as a young actor.
“You do nothing,” B]arkin, who was in her early thirties while filming Sea of Love. “What was I going to do when Harold Becker on Sea of Love walks over and literally rips my merkin off, taking some pubic hair with him and saying: ‘What do you need this for? Nobody’s looking at you.’”
A merkin is a pubic wig used by actors to protect their modesty on set.
A representative for Becker did not immediately respond to The Independent’s request for comment.

The malleability of the detective tale is impressive. From the heights of noir to now - there's always been an appetite for twisty, sleek dramas involving characters of varying intentions. Be it affectionate homages to classic hallmarks of the cinematic style or more revisionist takes on LA-or-otherwise-set mystery dramas - neo-noir is alive, well, and delivering great films fairly consistently. Rian Johnson has demonstrated a very obvious penchant for the whodunit. His Glass Onion smashed it as expected considering the landmark achievement that Knives Out was, but equally impressive in his filmography is his broodier, more arty take on contemporary modern-day noir in Brick. Considering his aptitude for developing interesting characters and even more captivating storylines - anticipation for his upcoming TV series Poker Face is rife. With Natasha Lyonne headlining a stellar cast including Adrien Brody, Ron Perlman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Nick Nolte, Tim Meadows, Ellen Barkin, who of course...

Oh, you weren’t tired of Harry Styles news? Well good thing because do we have a spitfire trailer headed your way! The trailer for another upcoming movie of Harry Styles’, My Policeman, has arrived and it hints at what may be Styles’ most promising performance so far.
The trailer shows the relationship between police officer Tom (Harry Styles) and teacher Marion. It seems ideal until museum curator Patrick enters the picture, triggering a gay relationship between him and Tom.
Also featured are older versions of the characters, played by Linus Roache, Gina McKee and Rupert Everett, respectively. Cat Power’s cover of “Sea of Love” is wonderfully utilized throughout the trailer.
My Policeman has been in development since 2020, with Lily James originally set to co-star with Harry Styles. Corrin took her place early last year.

After almost three absurdly long years, “Stranger Things” Season 4 is just around the corner. A tentpole series for Netflix — at a whopping production cost of reportedly 30 million per episode — the fan-favorite sci-fi show that launched its young adult cast, led by Millie Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard, into superstardom will be dropping new episodes May 27.
And, according to the Emmy-winning series’ executive producer Shawn Levy, it’s going to be “harrowing,” “cinematic” and “epic.” He told TheWrap in a recent interview, “This is so much more story and runtime than ever before, not by a little. By a lot.”
The last month of spring will also see the return of reality series titles like “The Circle” — a social media-driven competition series where players catfish, befriend and flirt with each other with the aim of winning a grand cash prize — and “Bling Empire” — which centers on a group of uber-wealthy Asian American friends in Beverly Hills.

As the undisputed king of streaming (for now at least), Netflix has enjoyed the presence of some major blockbusters. Now, with its list of new releases for May 2022, Netflix is bringing back one of its biggest ever hits.
Stranger Things season 4 “volume one” is set to premiere on May 27. It’s been a long wait for new episodes of this ’80s-tinged sci-fi/horror series and based on the trailers, the wait will have been well worth it. “F9” has gone from zero to $100 million in record post-pandemic time, hitting the domestic milestone on its second Friday in theaters, as the blockbuster has combined with newcomers “The Boss Baby: Family Business” and “The Forever Purge,” to give Universal the top three spots on this July 4th box office weekend.
The studio boasts that this is the first time a studio has done a podium sweep on the weekend charts since Sony in February 2005 — and the first time Universal has achieved it since the release of the Al Pacino thriller “Sea of Love” in September 1989. Such a feat is so uncommon because studios generally space out the releases of their films to avoid having them compete with each other for audience attention.
But with “Black Widow” coming out next weekend, Universal has decided to release a DreamWorks Animation family film and a Blumhouse horror film to serve as blockbuster counterprogramming.

It was big news earlier this year when Al Pacino appeared in his first-ever series regular TV role in the Amazon thriller “Hunters.” But the reviews were somewhat mixed, and the Emmys ultimately passed on it despite its star power. That might not be the last word on the series, though. Pacino is adored by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association that votes on the Golden Globes. Will he get his revenge for this revenge thriller?

“I Am God”
By Raymond Benson
It’s a line uttered by Dr. Jed Hill (chillingly played by a young Alec Baldwin), during a deposition in which he defends his surgical skill and knowledge as the things people in chapels really pray to when a loved one is under the knife in the operating room. “I am God,” he says with the kind of arrogance that only an actor like Baldwin can deliver.
Malice, the 1993 thriller directed by Harold Becker (whose previous film was the terrific Sea of Love), was adapted from a story by Aaron Sorkin and Jonas McCord, with a screenplay by Sorkin and Scott Frank. That’s powerhouse writing authorship, and the twisty-turny tale that unfolds on the screen is solid evidence the fact. Despite the rather improbable premise behind the con job that is at the heart of Malice, the picture indeed holds your interest and keeps you guessing.

What can you say about a hybrid gangster picture that generates a good feeling about people? We really like this show — Robert De Niro, Uma Thurman and Bill Murray’s characterizations are fresh and surprising — and refreshingly non-pc, with David Caruso, Kathy Baker and Mike Starr providing solid backup. Everything’s in fine form under director John McNaughton, as filmed by Robby Müller. And there’s a fascinating story about how parts of the story were re-written and re-shot, after a preview screening.

Price’s script, which follows a detective (Pacino) who falls in love with a suspect (Ellen Barkin) in a string of murders of men placing personal ads, has a rock solid construction that allows for a multitude of tonal shifts and digressions, all of which are orchestrated to perfection by the film’s director, Harold Becker. It’s hard for me to even admit that Dario Argento’s Opera had been a major blind spot of mine for far too long, but I’m thankful for the recent Blu-ray release of the film, courtesy of both Scorpion Releasing and Doppelganger Releasing, as it made this cinematic discovery feel like a true work of art befitting of the Horror Maestro’s stunning and wholly unique vision, confidently displaying this slice of giallo madness from 1987. And as you can probably tell, after just one viewing, I’m 110 percent a fan of Opera now and still cannot believe it took me this long to see this wildly weird masterpiece.
For anyone who hasn’t seen Opera, I’ll do my best not to spoil the abundance of intriguing revelations that happen throughout the movie. The simplified version of the film’s core story follows an ingénue soprano named Betty...

Aaron Sorkin is currently making the press rounds in promotion of his directorial debut “Molly’s Game,” and he recently shared an eye-opening story with USA Today about one of his earliest gigs as the screenwriter of “Malice.” Sorkin had just come off the success of “A Few Good Men” when he re-teamed with Columbia Pictures to write the Alec Baldwin and Nicole Kidman-starring thriller, which was being directed by Harold Becker (“The Boost,” “Sea of Love”).
According to Sorkin, Becker specifically requested him to write a “steamy” sex scene for Nicole Kidman. “Early on in my career, I wrote a movie that I’m not very proud of at all, it just turned into a mess,” Sorkin said, “Alec Baldwin and Nicole Kidman were in it. The director, very close to the start of photography, decided that we were missing a sex scene between Alec and Nicole.”

There’s an in between zone that parents often look for if they’re easing their kids into horror. If they’re fans of the genre themselves, the urge to take the tykes from Scooby-Doo to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is very tempting. I was one of the fortunate ones who was allowed to cut out the middleman and dive right into the heady stuff. So it was then that I missed out on a great bridge between the two extremes, The Midnight Hour (1985), ABC’s successful bid to get the Thriller-crazy crowd on their side.
Originally airing November 1st as part of The ABC Friday Night Movie (really? There was no Thursday slot open to make it for Halloween?), The Midnight Hour fought off CBS’ Dallas for its first half and NBC’s Miami Vice for the back, but those shows weren’t the ideal demographic anyway – this...

Netflix is bolstering its movie selection in the coming month, adding films like Dead Poets Society, Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Amores Perros, and all four Jaws movies.
