While the movies in general paid tribute to women in general, finally some are coming into the work force. Not without the usual (sexist) jokes. But the movie is able to swerve away from that a little bit. We get to see powerful women/characters, who also happen to be beautiful. Again not saying it gets everything right, but it does try.
So while you could view this as a step in the right direction, it still has to balance the jokes and de Funes at what he is best at. It's not the best of the 6 movies series, but it does what it is supposed to do. If you liked the ones before (timeline and continuity be damned), then go ahead and have fun with this too

the end of series. and the last film of Louis de Funes. nice, predictable, seductive, a new idea who becomes pretext for new adventures, large doses of humor, Saint Tropez atmosphere and a great job of de Funes. few scenes - Karl Marx as lecture of a nun, beautiful troop-ettes and the romantic scene between Germaine and Ludovic are good points of a series who seems be the same but far to be boring. because all is charming - dialogues, gestures, story, confusions. and nostalgia is the perfect package for an easy story, naive and fresh , so far by present but useful for remember to it the basic truths.
The gendarme and the gendarmettes is the sixth and final film in the beloved Gendarme series, and it closes the franchise on a high note. Louis de Funès reprises his role as the bumbling yet lovable Sergeant Cruchot, this time dealing with a new batch of recruits - all women, the "gendarmettes." The premise alone sets the stage for plenty of humorous misunderstandings, clashing personalities, and delightful chaos.
De Funès is once again in top form, delivering a performance that showcases his comedic talents to the fullest. The film is filled with laugh-out-loud moments, from physical comedy to witty dialogue, making it a treat for both longtime fans and newcomers. The interactions between Cruchot and the new recruits are particularly funny, highlighting the generational and gender clashes in a light-hearted way.
The film retains the charm and humor that have made the Gendarme series so beloved. It's the kind of comedy that never gets old, no matter how many times you've seen it. I find myself returning to this film time and again, and it always brings a smile to my face. It's a fitting end to a series that has provided so much joy and laughter over the years.
I give the gendarme and the gendarmettes a 9/10 for its humor, nostalgia, and the fantastic performance of Louis de Funès. It's a wonderful farewell to a character and a series that has become a staple of French comedy.

I rewatched all the "Gendarme" movies, classics from my youth, when you didn't have much choice too chose from. I'm a big fan of Louis de Funès so I never thought I would say it but I think enough is enough. This one is definitely the weakest of all the Gendarme movies. The plot is just not good. It's also borderline sexist and racist, maybe not for that time but certainly for this era. That said it's always fun to watch Louis de Funès, the man of thousand faces. Michel Galabru is also a great comedian and when those two form a pair it's just worth watching. It's a shame the plot is sometimes so dumb, a shame for those two great actors. From all the movies starring Louis de Funès I think this one is the weakest.
This should be in the bible, a good final movie to a fun and funny franchise.
