Concept art allegedly from Ironheart first did the rounds on social media in late 2022. The supposed leak contained three different designs for Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen's take on Mephisto, all of which were very punk rock-inspired.
While Cohen's villain is expected to be the one pulling The Hood's strings in Ironheart, there have been rumblings about him also factoring into Thunderbolts* (perhaps as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine's ally), Spider-Man 4, and even Avengers: Doomsday.
The only thing is, Cohen may not be playing Mephisto after all.
Making him the source of The Hood's powers seemed an easy way to finally bring a character into the MCU that fans once hoped would be a huge part of WandaVision. From there, the door would be open to Ghost Rider's introduction and so forth, and the Mephisto ball is one we've all run away with over the past few years.

This June, we'll behold the fury of Marvel's greatest supervillains in Bring on the Bad Guys, a seven-part event celebrating the nearly 50-year legacy of the groundbreaking Bring on the Bad Guys trade paperback.
Pioneering how comics were collected, the original Bring on the Bad Guys collected key early stories of Marvel's most iconic supervillains. This new iteration promises to deliver a blood-pounding experience across seven one-shots starring those same infamous characters: Doctor Doom, Green Goblin, Abomination, Loki, Red Skull, Dormammu, and Mephisto.
The overarching saga will be spearheaded by Emmy Award-winning writer Marc Guggenheim (Arrow) who kicks things off in Bring on the Bad Guys: Doctor Doom alongside artist Stefano Raffaele. He'll later return for the finale (revolving around Mephisto), though the creative teams for the rest of the one-shots have yet to be revealed.

Rumor: Some Intriguing New Details About The Marvel Cinematic Universe's Mephisto Have Been Revealed
Concept art allegedly from Ironheart first did the rounds on social media in late 2022. The supposed leak contained three different designs for Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen's take on Mephisto, all of which were very punk rock.
We'd later get an artist's impression with something of a Lobo feel to it, though Gene Simmons and Kiss were clearly the main sources of inspiration for the McU's devil.
That Satanic Panic era of rock musicians often took their inspiration from devilish imagery, and it was fun to think Cohen's demon could be the basis for them in the MCU...or is perhaps just a fan of their music. Ultimately, real or fake, it did look like the sort of transformation the British actor would want to undergo rather than just portraying a stereotypical devil.

Marvel's notorious villain, Doctor Doom, is known for being the authoritarian ruler of the kingdom of Latveria and a regular nemesis to the Fantastic Four, but not often called to light is Victor Von Doom’s immense achievements in power or his pension for Christmas spirit. Doctor Doom has proven that he can use his power for good, and he's even used his abilities to take over the Christmas duties of Santa Claus himself.
In the alternate universe of the story "I'll Be Doom for Christmas" by Scott Lobdell, John Byrne, Daniel Vozzo, and Jade Moede from What The–?! , Doctor Doom takes up the Santa Claus mantle when Saint Nicholas is injured by one of Doom’s castle traps. Despite getting into a fight with the Fantastic Four and the Avengers, Santa Doom allies with his foes and delivers Christmas.

Is there a more anticipated superhero movie than 2026's Spider-Man 4? It's certainly generating a greater number of headlines than any other upcoming comic book adaptation, and many of those are rumours about the Spider-Man: No Way Home follow-up's plot and characters.
It started with rumblings about an appearance from Paul Rudd's Scott Lang. Soon after, the rumour mill churned out the promise of a street-level adventure supposedly about Spider-Man and Daredevil taking on Mayor Wilson Fisk (a.k.a. the Kingpin of Crime).
Last year's WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes may have changed things, with Daredevil: Born Again's creative overhaul pushing the Disney+ series' premiere to next March. If season 2 was ever meant to lead directly into Spider-Man 4, it's now going to be extremely difficult to release that before July 2026 when production doesn't begin until early 2025.

Although Mephisto was finally name-dropped in the MCU, there hasn't been any official confirmation as to where and when he might appear next. Having been referenced in Agatha All Along, it was confirmed that the classic Marvel Comics villain does indeed exist in the MCU. That being said, nothing else about the demon lord was revealed in the MCU show, leaving behind major questions about Mephisto's whereabouts and status.
In Marvel Comics, Mephisto is a supernatural dark lord of evil who thrives on making Faustian deals with mortals and claiming their souls, relishing in his existence as he plays on human fears that he's the Devil. An incredibly powerful force to be reckoned with, Agatha All Along confirming that he does indeed exist in the MCU was very exciting, while also being a bit of a letdown when nothing else about the villain was revealed. Nicholas Scratch's history was explored in Agatha All Along, but one hidden detail suggests Marvel Studios already explained exactly what happened to him back in Phase 4's WandaVision. Kathryn Hahn's return as Agatha Harkness in Agatha All Along revealed more about the original Salem witch, including her long-running romance and rivalry with Aubrey Plaza's Death, her Witches' Road scheme and the existence of her son, Nicholas Scratch. While Agatha All Along's finale explained what happened to Nicholas Scratch, there's one mystery the MCU hasn't addressed.
Agatha Harkness was not the only WandaVision character to return in Agatha All Along, as Agatha's new witch coven formed in Westview, New Jersey, allowing Debra Jo Rupp's Sharon Davis, David Payton's John Collins and Emma Caulfield's Sarah Proctor to also come back. The Oscar-nominated cinematographer (“Malena”) discussed why he decided to direct his third feature film, which has gone on to become one of Hungary’s biggest hits of the year.
“It was a lucky thing,” he said of the film’s success. “People went to see it and we had record numbers in Hungary. Young people went to see it. Teenagers! Mephisto is one of the biggest Marvel villains the Marvel Cinematic Universe has yet to introduce, though they have a variety of avenues to do so. Essentially the equivalent to The Devil in the Marvel universe, Mephisto is a powerful lord of evil ruling the underworld with an iron fist, hell-bent on finding pure souls to torture and corrupt for his own sick pleasure. A powerful, supernatural entity older than the Earth itself, the MCU timeline has thus far had a difficult time integrating him into the films' lore.
Mephisto was originally speculated to appear in WandaVision, with the same theory resurfacing once more recently with the premiere of Agatha All Along. However, by the final episode of Agatha All Along, Mephisto was nowhere to be seen, overshadowed by another powerful supernatural entity. Luckily, there are still plenty of ways the MCU could introduce the demon lord in an official capacity.

Agatha All Along has teased numerous mysteries, offering explanations for only a few thus far. While we’ve identified the enigmatic teen, this revelation has led to new questions that likely won’t be resolved until the final episode.
One intriguing mystery introduced in the second episode has sparked fan debates ever since: the enigmatic black heart on Agatha’s list of potential recruits for her coven.
As you may remember, Lilia Calderu provided Agatha with a list of her coven members, but one name was mysteriously replaced by a black heart. Agatha initially thought the black heart represented Mrs. Hart, the Green Witch, but Lilia couldn’t make it green because she only had a black pen.
Some fans speculated that the black heart referred to Rio Vidal, Agatha’s former lover, and Mephisto’s gender-bent “son,” Blackheart, a well-known demon from Marvel comics.
However, after Episode 6, it turns out we were mistaken.

Though nothing has been officially announced, The Marvels pretty blatantly laid the groundwork for some sort of Young Avengers project. Previous rumors pointed to a Disney+ series, but a more recent report claimed that the Jr. roster of Earth's Mightiest Heroes will actually assemble on the big screen.

Mephisto is coming to the MCU. But is he really? When will we see him? Will it be in Agatha All Along, or later on? Hasn’t he already been hinted at?
Fans have been eagerly awaiting the introduction of one of Marvel’s major villains, and the studio has certainly kept us on our toes with teases about Mephisto.
While it’s clear that the character exists within the MCU, having been referenced in earlier films, he has yet to make an official appearance. There’s strong speculation that he might finally show up in Agatha All Along, which seems like the perfect opportunity for Marvel to introduce him.
There are also rumors that Sacha Baron Cohen will play Mephisto in the MCU. If this turns out to be true, Marvel has cleverly dropped hints that fans have picked up on.

Mephisto is coming to the MCU. Is he? Really? When? Now? In Agatha All Along? Later? Wasn’t he already teased? Isn’t he already part of the MCU? And we could go on for hours about Mephisto and his role in the MCU.
One of Marvel’s big baddies is a character that the fans have been wanting to see since forever, and Marvel hasn’t been shy about teasing us with Mephisto.
Okay, we know that the character does exist in the MCU, as he has been mentioned in earlier movies, but he hasn’t yet made an appearance officially. Episode 3 of ‘Agatha All Along’ name-dropped one pretty important Marvel Comics character. Although Mephisto has been mentioned as early as 2012 ‘Avengers,’ ‘Agatha All Along’ directly mentioned the character, sparking hopes that perhaps he will appear in the show.
Fans felt the same during ‘WandaVision’ where Mephisto was somewhat teased indirectly to be the villain only to be disappointed, but with ‘Agatha All Along’ we truly do have a reason to be excited.
Mephisto might not appear in ‘Agatha All Along’ but he will most certainly appear in ‘Ironheart’ a Disney+ series bound for the 2025 release.
‘Ironheart’ is set to focus on Riri Williams, who was described as Tony Stark’s replacement in the MCU, however, her own standalone show is described as a mix of technology, magic, and demons as a young superhero will potentially have to utilize her technical talents to combat supernatural threats.

MCU fans have been theorizing Mephisto's arrival to the billion-dollar franchise since WandaVision and Agatha All Along finally put closure on the villain's existence in episode 3 of the hit series.

Note: The following contains spoilers for “Agatha All Along” Episode 3
The trials of the witches’ road have begun on “Agatha All Along” and sadly, they have also claimed the life of one Mrs. Hart — sorry, Sharon. She preferred Sharon.
In Episode 3 of Marvel’s newest series, now streaming on Disney+, Agatha (Kathryn Hahn) and her new coven properly begin their journey down the witches’ road, which promises trials that require each of their skills.
The first trial trapped the women (and Teen) in a wine night at a mysterious beachside house a la “Big Little Lies” — the women even joke about its resemblance to “Huge Tiny Lies.” They’re presented with a wine, which they quickly realize is poisoned.
Only Jen’s potion-making abilities can save them, as they work together to find the ingredients for an antidote. Eventually they do make it out, but Sharon (Debra Jo Rupp) doesn’t survive the ordeal.

The MCU has developed a problem, and the latest Mephisto tease in Agatha All Along is a prime example. Agatha All Along is the titular witch's solo series, detailing her journey down the Witches' Road with a coven pulled together in a desperate bid to reacquire the powers stripped from her by Wanda Maximoff in WandaVision. The series is Marvel's latest foray into horror as the Witches' Road presents a series of trials replete with supernatural events. So far, this has been confined to the spooky imagery surrounding witches, embodied in particular by the Salem Seven.
Agatha All Along episode 3 revealed the first trial faced by the coven in their journey down the Witches' Road. This trial involved the practice of alchemy as the coven, led by Jennifer Kale, brewed an antidote for the "Alewife's Revenge" poison. It also delved further into the covens' backstories, with Agatha's being of particular importance.

It's that time of the year again. Yes, that one, when everyone is seeing Mephisto everywhere. Thanks to the third episode of Agatha All Along, "Through Many Miles of Tricks and Trials," the Marvel demon got his first-ever mention in the MCU. Yes, it was the first. No, it wasn't in WandaVision that was just your overly eager imagination seeing things. The world can't handle another Mephisto conspiracy wave, though. The MCU fans were right all along, at least that seems to be the overwhelming notion online following the release of Agatha All Along episode 3. The series serves as a spin-off to the 2019 miniseries WandaVision. However, like the latter series, the Kathryn Hahn-led series has also been forced to deal with the rumors of one particular comic book villain finally appearing.
Agatha All Along sparked speculation of Mephisto’s appearence in the series (Credit: Disney+).

The world has a way of evening things out. Take this week, for example, with The Penguin debuting as one of the best comic book television adaptations of the century, while Agatha All Along limps along as one of the worst. It’s a cringe-worthy, grating, tedious, and monotonously boring spooky fantasy.
The Disney+ series has been the worst since Secret Invasion and is easily one of the worst Marvel streaming series ever. Agatha All Along lacks basic scares, thrills, laughs, and any semblance of the joy typically found in shows like this. It makes you wonder exactly who this series was created for.
Perhaps those fierce Hocus Pocus loyalists developed over the last few decades? Either way, the first four episodes of Disney+’s Agatha All Along are a calculated misfire on almost every level.

Hungary has picked Lajos Koltai’s biopic Semmelweis as its contender for the 2025 Oscars in the best international feature category.
The feature traces the life of Hungarian doctor Ignaz Philipp Semmelweis, an early pioneer of antiseptic procedures who became known as “the savior of mothers” for his efforts in fighting deadly infections following childbirth. Set in 19th-century Vienna, it shows Semmelweis, played by Miklós H. Vecsei as a passionate, if short-tempered, doctor determined to find the cause of puerperal fever, a mysterious epidemic decimating patients after childbirth. Even after he discovers the cause of the infection and a means to prevent it, his peers and superiors work to discredit him.
Semmelweis was a commercial hit back home, selling more than 350,000 tickets and grossing more than $2 million on its theatrical release, becoming the most successful Hungarian movie of the past five years. Nfi World Sales is handling world sales on the title.

It's a light year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, all things considered. While we've become accustomed to around three movies per year in this franchise, 2024 sees just one in the form of "Deadpool & Wolverine." But that one movie is going to make it count as the first R-rated movie in the history of the MCU, and one that brings us a long-awaited team-up. We're also getting a new villain in the form of Cassandra Nova, played by "The Crown" star Emma Corrin. However, the filmmakers considered at least one other villain before landing on that one. Namely, Mephisto.
In an interview with Collider, director Shawn Levy and star Ryan Reynolds spoke about the long process of trial and error to nail down the story for "Deadpool & Wolverine." That involved entertaining several villains. "What was the name of the villain that we flirted with? Was it Mephisto?" Levy asked,...

The Merc with a Mouth and Logan are going to have their hands full with Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin) when Deadpool and Wolverine arrives in theaters this week, but it seems a very different Marvel Comics villain was considered at one point.
Yes, it was Mephisto!
While speaking to Collider, Ryan Reynolds revealed that they "flirted" with the idea of utilizing Mephisto for the film, but ultimately decided that as Charles Xavier's evil twin, Nova would be a better fit.
"We went through a lot of 'almost' versions of this story before we landed," added director Shawn Levy. "Frankly, it was the infamous call from Hugh, but then it was this idea of Cassandra Nova as a sibling to Charles because Cassandra's link to Professor X creates an interesting dynamic and fascination in Cassandra about you [to Jackman]."

You know a Queen Bee song when you hear it, whether it's from their energetic rock sound or the captivating vocals of the band's lead singer, Avu-chan. Kino Lorber is expanding its streaming footprint. The boutique art-house distributor just launched its own SVOD platform, the Kino Film Collection.
The new app is available now as a standalone service on Apple TV, Fire TV, Android TV, and Roku, and it will feature hundreds of movies from Kino Lorber’s film library of more than 4,000 titles. Subscriptions will begin at $5.99 per month.
In November 2023, Kino Lorber launched an Amazon Prime Video channel; you can still access its titles there. But having its own service puts the company in the race alongside other niche streaming options in the space, like the Criterion Channel ($10.99/month) or Mubi ($14.99/month).
As part of the launch, Kino Film Collection curated a selection of titles that showcase auteurs who have played at Cannes; the 2024 film festival is currently ongoing. The collection includes early movies from Yorgos Lanthimos, Jia Zhangke, and Ken Loach, as well as...

How far will you go to deny your identity in order to be a somebody? What happens when you make a deal with a devil whom you might normally despise, but has transfixed much of an entire nation’s population? And how long can you will yourself to ignore evidence of the intolerable? These are just a few of the questions raised — sometimes with allusive finesse, sometimes with blunt-force impact — during “The Performance,” an enthralling period drama with often disquieting contemporary relevance.
If you have roamed through this cinematic territory before, you may discern in Shira Piven’s exceptional film traces of “Cabaret,” “Mephisto” and other tales of ambitious entertainers striving for the spotlight as Adolf Hitler’s shadow spreads over 1930s Germany. WandaVision's Quicksilver reveal disappoints fans who hoped for an X-Men crossover. Iron Man 2's twist of fake Mandarin by Ben Kingsley confuses and underwhelms. The unanswered question of how Old Man Steve Rogers returns in Avengers: Endgame baffles fans.
The MCU has played host to some exceptionally mind-bending plot twists over the years, but there are many that are just as confusing years after they were first revealed. Doctor Strange 3 might feature Doctor Doom as a compelling potential villain, as he is not only a charismatic leader but also a powerful practitioner of mystic arts. Karl Mordo, one of Doctor Strange's iconic villains, could reappear in Doctor Strange 3 and resolve his murderous journey left unresolved in the MCU. Dormammu, Nightmare, Mephisto, or even an alternate version of Doctor Strange himself could be exciting villains for Doctor Strange 3.
There hasn't been any confirmation that Doctor Strange 3 will happen in the MCU, but it seems likely that Benedict Cumberbatch's former Sorcerer Supreme will get a third movie to close out a trilogy. Previously, Strange has faced off against the fallen sorcerer Kaecilius and the corrupted Scarlet Witch as primary antagonists. WandaVision director Matt Shakman confirmed that Mephisto was never part of the plan for the show, debunking popular theories. Despite this, Mephisto is still heavily rumored to appear in upcoming MCU projects like Ironheart and Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, and could even have his own Special Presentation. Mephisto's long-standing presence in Marvel Comics and connections to established MCU characters make him a fitting addition to the current timeline.
Matt Shakman has confirmed that a major villain, who was heavily rumored to be appearing in WandaVision, was never actually a part of Marvel Studios' Phase 4 plan. WandaVision kicked off Phase 4 of the MCU and the Multiverse Saga in 2021, marking the first of Marvel Studios' TV shows on Disney+. The series caught up with Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff and Paul Bettany's Vision in the wake of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, taking place in a sitcom-style world created by Maximoff's reality-altering power as the Scarlet Witch.

Marvel Studios is unwittingly repeating an unfulfilled Phase 4 theory through Secret Invasion. The core premise of Secret Invasion is that Skrulls have infiltrated Earth through their shape-shifting abilities, meaning Nick Fury does not know who is and is not a Skrull. This has naturally caused a lot of paranoia within the show, with Fury unable to trust people he used to call friends and allies, leading to him fighting the Skrull invasion alone.
Similarly, though, the paranoia embedded within Secret Invasion's story is leaking outward, with plenty of theories from viewers surrounding which of the show's characters are secretly Skrull invaders. This has extended to longtime MCU characters, with a prevalent theory being that Rhodes is a Skrull in Secret Invasion. From Rhodes and Sonya Falsworth to Maria Hill and even Nick Fury himself, the theories about MCU characters being Skrulls are harkening back to Marvel's best, unfulfilled Phase 4 trend.
