I am usually pretty tolerant of crap cinema. In fact, I usually go out of my way to ensure that my rental choice is the absolute worst I can find in the store. Big, faded box, hand-drawn cover.. those movies are gems. For the most part. This one wasn't. This vile teen sex comedy made me violently, gut-wrenchingly ill. If by some rare chance you were looking around for a
review of this film, I suppose I can waste a few more precious minutes of my life and give you one.. Beverly Hills brat girl tires of her mundane, sheltered
existence, gets punk makeover (complete with half-shirt
that says "savage") and drags her best friend along for the ride, looking for cute guys to toy with and eventually abandon. Enter typical horn dog jock meathead type and his hapless, virgin buddy. And then throw in a feeble criminal caper involving a not-so-well-guarded rare jewel that looks remarkably like one you'd plop 25 cents in a machine to get. So, these crazy kids and bumbling criminals butt heads, with hilarious results! Not bloody likely.. Not a single thing was funny in this movie. No camp value, nothing. Some 80's skank, typical laundromat recruits,
but nothing of any real note. Just sheer cinema masochism for your hard-earned dollar. Feel like enduring particularly brutal sensory torture? Rent this. (Do NOT, however, watch this back to back with Pistol Packin' Leroy, like I did. A combination with potentially fatal results..)

This has all the elements of an 80s film: 80s music, 80s fads, sex, and plot. The cast is mainly Canadian and really only two names come to mind (Carl Marotte from Beyond Reality and Carolyn Dunn from Sweating Bullets). There are some good shots of some Canadian scenery, and some of the humor is pretty good. If you ever see this film advertised on a local station or on USA (known for showing B-movies), give it a try.
I love New World Pictures movies from the 80's,but this is one of my favorites. It's about two guys, one is a wisecracking schemer and one is a mild virgin.Together they meet a couple of valley girls who want to shed their image by dressing new wave 80's.They meet a fun park and spend the day trying to get to know eachother until at night they run into a trio of bumbling jewel thieves looking for the teddy bear with the stolen jewel in it.The main girl Debbie is played by the beautiful and talented Carolyn Dunn,of the Sweating Bullets fame. Her "I Love You"underwear is cute.My other personal New World faves are"Crimes of Passion","Girls Just Want to Have Fun","Night Patrol","Tuff Turf" and many more, but this is one too,it should of been New World's break out hit when first released in 1985 but unfortunately it was'nt due to its ansemble cast of canadian actors.Anyways "Breaking All The Rules"should get more recognition on DVD,its a classic 80's parody and funny.9 out of 10.
The events of "Breaking All The Rules" almost all take place at a place called Fun Park, but there is absolutely no fun to be found in this dismal Canadian comedy. I was able to forgive the movie for its unanswered questions like why a valuable gem is being exhibited in a third rate amusement park, but not for much else. There are plenty of attempts at humor, and while some are *almost* funny (such as the scene taking place in the bus), in the end *none* of the attempts at humor actually work. The cast seems to know they are in an utter bomb, because their performances come across as labored and with no sense of having any fun. In fact, the director seems to be feeling the same way as his poor actors, because the energy level is woefully low and there is absolutely no feeling of enthusiasm or passion. The icing on the cake is the cheap feeling of the entire enterprise, from the shabby production values to the grating songs on the soundtrack. The Canadian government actually provided funding for this movie, and while I normally like it when the government takes a break from funding boring and pretentious art films as it usually does for something more commercial, in the end this so-called commercial film is almost as tough to sit through as those painful art films.
My brother and I were extras in this movie when it was filmed in 1984. I have a cousin, Andrea Kenyon, who is a casting director. She's on IMDb if you look her up. She got us in when we were visiting that summer.
For the person who was wondering, the amusement park is La Ronde in Montreal. It is still going strong today. It is on Ile St. Helene, a small island between the island of Montreal and the mainland. The island was originally the site of Expo '67 which Montreal hosted.
The movie was originally going to be called 'Fun Park'. I still have yet to see it! Maybe that's for the better?! If anyone knows where I can find it, please let me know.
