Can't believe I came across a Tatsuya Nakadai movie I hadn't seen before. And he's in this one quite a lot, and the least surprising thing in the world is that he's really good in it. As far as chameleonic actors go - people who can play absolutely any role in any genre of movie - he's one of the very best of all time. And I think he's every part Toshiro Mifune's equal, who wasn't quite as versatile, but made up for it by knowing how to muscle his way into the centre of any scene and absolutely/always command the screen. I'll watch anything with either of those two actors.
As for Pressure of Guilt, it's pretty good. It came out the same year as High and Low (which had both Nakadai and Mifune), and was directed by someone who did second unit work on a lot of Akira Kurosawa films, so it scratches that itch a little. Plus, Nakadai was in both (no Mifune in Pressure of Guilt, though), playing very different characters.
It's about a murder case where the murderer is also a defence lawyer, and he ends up representing the person who got arrested for the crime. They didn't play around with this dynamic as much as they could've, but it's a foundation for a more expected "prosecutor trying to get to the bottom of things" story to play out. And it overall did a pretty good job at holding my attention. It wasn't incredible, but it's quite good for something so obscure.
I also found a version with flawed subtitles, which made some parts a little hard to follow, but I still got the gist of it. The acting and directing are good enough to make a lot of the film's story come across coherently even with an imperfect translation, thankfully.
