Eaten Alive (also known as Doomed to Die and The Emerald Jungle) will satisfy your hunger for human flesh on 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray on June 24 via Severin Films.

Not to be confused with Tobe Hooper’s 1976 horror film of the same name, this is the 1980 Italian cannibal gorefest from writer-director Umberto Lenzi (Cannibal Ferox).

It has been newly scanned in 4K from the color reversal intermediate. It’s presented in Hdr with English and Italian mono audio options.

On Sunday, the Motion Picture Sound Editors announced the winners of the Mpse Golden Reel Awards, and four of the five Oscar nominees for Best Sound came away victorious: Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, Wicked, and The Wild Robot. The fifth Oscar nominee, A Complete Unknown, had two Golden Reel nominations, but didn't win.

Dune claimed top honors for effects/foley. Wicked was awarded for music editing. The Wild Robot had the best sound editing for animation. And Emilia Pérez won the award for international features. Surprisingly, the dialogue/Adr prize went to Saturday Night, which ranked fifth in Gold Derby's odds, with only one user predicting that result.

Oscar frontrunners “Wicked” (Paul Tazewell), “Nosferatu” (Linda Muir), and “Conclave” (Lisy Christl) were all winners at the 27th Costume Designer Guild Awards (Cdga), held February 6 at The Ebell of Los Angeles. “Nobody Wants This” star Jackie Tohn served as host.

The film winners prevailed in the categories of sci-fi/fantasy, period, and contemporary, respectively. Costume designer Tazewell is currently the favorite to win the Oscar for “Wicked,” Jon M. Chu’s populist Oz musical. He created a connection to nature through mushroom motifs in the wardrobes for Elphaba (Oscar-nominated Cynthia Erivo), and a floating sensibility with effervescent pink bubble motifs in the wardrobes for Galinda (Oscar-nominated Ariana Grande).

In TV, the winners were “Dune: Prophecy” (Bojana Nikitovi) for sci-fi/fantasy, “Shōgun” (Carlos Rosario) for period, and “Hacks” (Kathleen Felix-Hager) for contemporary.

Dressed to the nines and ready to shine, the 2025 Costume Designers Guild Awards (Cdga) rolled out their vibrant carpet on Thursday in Los Angeles. The ceremony celebrated outstanding achievements in costume design across film, television, short-form, and costume illustration. Among the glittering nominees were four of the five Oscar contenders for Best Costume Design: Conclave, Gladiator II, Nosferatu, and Wicked. Notably absent from the Cdga list was the Academy Award-nominated A Complete Unknown.

The four Oscar nominees were split between three categories, avoiding a direct clash prior to the 2025 Oscars on March 2. “Dune: Part Two” led all films in nominations for the 233 annual Ves Awards, the Visual Effects Society announced on Tuesday. Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic received seven nominations in the Ves Awards’ eight non-animated feature film categories, followed by “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” with six, “Better Man” with four and “Mufasa: The Lion King” with three.

In the Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature category, the category that corresponds most closely to Best Visual Effects at the Oscars, the nominees were “Better Man,” “Dune: Part Two,” “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” “Mufasa: The Lion King” and “Twisters.”

All 10 of the films on the Oscars’ Best Visual Effects shortlist received Ves nominations. The nominations for the 72nd Annual Mpse Golden Reel Awards, honoring outstanding achievement in sound editing, sound design, music editing and foley artistry in film, television and gaming were announced on Monday.. Winners will be announced at the annual gala on February 23, 2025 at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles. Please find a full list of nominations below.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” and “ Dune: Part Two” led all films in nominations for the Motion Picture Sound Editors’ Golden Reel Awards, the Mpse announced on Monday morning. The two large-scale productions each received three nominations in the seven Golden Reel feature-film categories, with both films nominated for its feature dialogue/Adr, feature effects/Foley and music editing.

Films with two nominations included “Alien: Romulus,” “A Complete Unknown,” “Emilia Perez,” “Wicked” and the two documentaries “Elton John: Never Too Late” and “Music by John Williams.”

Denis Villeneuve‘s Dune: Part Two and Shawn Levy‘s Deadpool & Wolverine tie for the lead number of feature nominations for the 72nd Motion Picture Sound Editors Golden Reel Awards with three nods each in the categories of dialogue/Adr, effects/foley and music.

Following behind with two nominations each are Alien: Romulus (dialogue/Adr and effects/foley), A Complete Unknown (dialogue/Adr and music), Emilia Pérez (international and music) and Wicked (dialogue/Adr and music).

All six films have been shortlisted for the Oscar in sound, as has The Wild Robot, which received an Mpse Golden Reel nomination in the feature animation category. Blitz, Gladiator II and Joker: Folie à Deux, which have also been shortlisted, did not receive a Golden Reel nom.

So, here’s the twist you didn’t see coming: in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2, Episode 7, “Doomed to Die,” Elrond (Robert Aramayo) kisses Galadriel (Morfydd Clark). Forget all those steamy Sauron-Galadriel moments fans were hoping for. Instead, we got an emotional kiss that was part strategy, part goodbye, and 100% unexpected. Whoa.

Aramayo summed it up best when he confessed, “I think that’s how it begins, but then also it’s a goodbye as well.” The kiss, while it may seem like a quick rescue tactic, packs a punch way beyond the practical. For Elrond, this kiss was more than a strategic move. It was loaded with emotions—he genuinely thought this could be his last moment with Galadriel, and he was saying goodbye to someone who was like family to him. The drama! The feels!

Another day, another guild award nomination for “The Substance.”

On Friday, the Costume Designers Guild announced its 2025 CDG Awards nominees, and “The Substance” costume designer Emmanuelle Youchnovski was among the artisans highlighted for recognition.

Youchnovski is the latest department head from the Coralie Fargeat horror satire nominated for a guild award this week, following editors Fargeat, Jérôme Eltabet, and Valentin Féron at the Ace Eddie Awards, and hair and makeup team Frédérique Arguello and Stéphanie Guillon at the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards.

The film’s strong guild show corresponds to an outpouring of support from the journalists who make up the Golden Globes Foundation and Critics Choice Association. “The Substance” landed major nominations at both the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards this week, including best film nominations at each respective event and two Best Director bids for Fargeat.

The Costume Designers Guild on Friday unveiled nominations for the 27th CDGAs, with titles on the movie side ranging from blockbusters like Wicked, Gladiator II, Dune: Part Two and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice to indie hits like Conclave, Emilia Pérez and The Substance.

The CDG Awards nominates films in three categories — Contemporary, Period and Sci-Fi/Fantasy — along with four TV categories and one category apiece in Short Form Design and Costume Illustration.

Among the TV nominees with multiple mentions this morning are Shōgun and Agatha All Along, with others with eye-popping looks in the mix including Bridgerton, Dancing With the Stars and The Masked Singer, and Emily In Paris.

Winners will be revealed at the 27th annual CDG Awards hosted by Jackie Tohn on February 6 at The Ebell of Los Angeles.

Last year, the film winners included Barbie, Saltburn and eventual Costume Design Oscar winner Holly Waddingham for Poor Things.

Some characters are familiar and some are brand-new, and some of their stories are more entertaining than others. In a Sophomore season filled with standout moments, Season 2, Episode 7 of The Rings of Power delivers the most thrilling installment of Prime Video's Tolkien adaptation yet, giving audiences one of Middle-Earth's most exhilarating on-screen sieges since Helm's Deep. Between the installment's muddy battle sequences and Celebrimbor's (Charles Ewards) gut-wrenching realization that he's been manipulated by Sauron (Charles Vickers) this whole time, "Doomed to Die" is an excellent yet brutal episode of television that raises The Rings of Power's stakes ahead of this week's Season 2 finale. What's more, despite Sauron's dramatic illusions and the arrival of the Elves' glittering army, the episode actually contains a brief name-drop that is just as important to the series as the fall of Eregion.

Viewership for this seasons The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is seemingly lower than last season. Per Deadline, so far Season 2 has managed 55 million global viewers, said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios during Prime Videos UK Upfront presentation in London. Season 1 of the Tolkien-inspired high-fantasy show had more than 150 million viewers worldwide.

The drop may not be as bleak as it looks, as its probable that Salke is referring to the number of Prime Video accounts watching the show, and not the actual number of viewers. It would be virtually impossible for the streamer to measure exactly how many individual people are watching the show.

The Rings of Power season 2 finale is almost here, and it promises to raise the stakes of Amazon's Lord of the Rings show even further. The Rings of Power season 2, episode 7 depicts the Siege of Eregion, one of the major events of Middle-earth's Second Age. Overall, the sophomore season has put the show's heroes and even its main villain in a number of predicaments. And their problems are far from over heading into The Rings of Power season 2's eighth and final episode.

The upcoming finale must contend with the aftermath of the Eregion's fall, Adar's fate, and the Nine Rings for Men. Further from Eregion, there's also the matter of the Stranger's true identity to deal with and the decline of Nmenor. Those two stories are absent from episode 7, so the next installment will need to address them before closing the curtain on the current season. Needless to say,...

The most recent episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, entitled "Doomed to Die," is an action-packed affair. Adar and his army of orcs are attacking the Elven city of Eregion, while Sauron manipulates the city's leader Celebrimbor inside its walls. The fighting is brutal, and there are a couple of minor character deaths. At one point the eld Mirdania (Amelia Kenworthy) falls off a wall and splatters on the ground.

We didn't know Mirdania particularly well, but that's a rough way to go. And we didn't see the half of it. As stunt coordinator and second unit director Vic Armstrong explained to SlashFilm, Mirdania's original death scene was way, way more brutal. "[Director Charlotte Brändström] said, 'Give me some really gruesome bits!' So I said, 'Ok.'"

A teaser trailer for the finale of The Rings of Power streaming on Prime Video sets up a Season 2 finale that includes balrogs, a confrontation between King Durin and Prince Durin as well as Nori and Poppy seemingly in danger with the Dark Wizard and The Stranger. Per Total Film, the trailer also shows the elf Arondir (Ismael Cruz Crdova), who was thought to be slain by Adar (Sam Hazeldine) in Episode 7, very much alive and fighting in Eregion.

The Season 2 finale will stream on Prime Video on Oct. 3.

Deicide have offered up details on their new album Banished by Sin, arriving April 26th, as well as released a new single called “Sever the Tongue.”

After teasing the album with a Christmas surprise in the form of the festive lead single “Bury the Cross…with Your Christ”, frontman Glen Benton and company have unveiled the full info on Banished by Sin, which runs 12 tracks and is adorned with an interpretation of the iconic demon medallion from the band’s 1990 debut LP.

Picking up where the band left off with their X-mas gift, “Sever the Tongue” is a decadent brand of brutality, with barrages of technical riffing and an unrelenting torrent of guttural heresy from Benton. The David Brodsky-helmed music video is gorey and equally blasphemous — tongues are indeed severed — so view it with discretion.

“I’ve been sitting in a dark corner for several years now,” Benton revealed in the album announcement.
