‘The White Lotus’ Star Jason Isaacs Says Timothy’s ‘Suicidal Instinct’ Isn’t Gone After Episode 5
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “The White Lotus” Season 3, Episode 5.

After watching Jason Isaacs’ Timothy spiral throughout “The White Lotus” Season 3, the character attempts to take his fate back into his own hands in Episode 5 — an impulse Isaacs said lingers throughout the rest of the season.

In Episode 5, Timothy silently mulls over his future — which is likely going to include prison and frozen assets — and comes to the realization that ending his own life might be his best option. At the end of the episode, Timothy writes a suicide note to his family before pulling the gun he stole from Gaitok (Tayme Thapthimthong) to his head. At the last second, however, he is interrupted by his wife, Victoria (Parker Posey).

“He was about to pull the trigger, when Victoria walks in and he didn’t want her to see it — he left her a note. He wanted her to find it,...

“The reveal of Ultra Instinct was on the level of Super Saiyan”: It’s Unfair to Expect Dragon Ball Daima to Repeat Goku’s Ultra Instinct Moment From Super
Image
Despite having some issues with its current narrative, Dragon Ball Daima, as a whole, is still going on pretty strong! And since the series has already produced some incredible moments, people are wondering if it will be able to reach even greater heights, something similar to the Ultra Instinct reveal!

Goku’s Mastered Ultra Instinct transformation | Credits: Toei Animation

The Ultra Instinct reveal was such a game-changer, that it’s on par with the famous Super Saiyan transformation that had us all go wild in the past. It was amazing to see how Ultra Instinct improved Goku’s skills to the point where he was nearly invincible.

But now the concern is, does Daima have any hidden secret weapon in its narrative arsenal that will blow our minds away once more? Can it possibly top or even reach the Ultra Instinct reveal level of hype? The answer to this is rather underwhelming,...

Nicole Kidman Says ‘Babygirl’ Would Have Been Different With a Male Director: ‘There’s a Safeness’
Image
Writer-director Halina Reijn was crucial to Nicole Kidman’s experience filming “Babygirl,” the actress told Elin Hilderbrand as part of a lengthy interview with The Guardian published on Saturday.

“I don’t think I could have given the performance with a male director. She was the one that wrote it. She was the one that understood it,” Kidman said. “A man directing this, it wouldn’t have been the same, because he can’t actually be in my body, but she can.”

The actress continued, “We share that form, and so we have the ability to communicate telepathically almost, with an understanding of what our bodies will do. And all bodies are different, but there’s a safeness, and there’s a secrecy almost to the sexuality that had to be shared. And that’s why it was a very, very, very different experience for me.”

Reijn further told The Guardian...

Babygirl Director Gives Major Update On Her Next A24 Movie After Being Asked About Potential Sequel
Image
Babygirl director Halina Reijn teases that her next project is in development with A24 while addressing the possibility of a sequel to her acclaimed debut. The latest A24 movie follows the story of Romy Mathis (Nicole Kidman), a high-powered CEO who puts her career and family at stake when she begins an affair with her much younger intern (Harris Dickinson). The film garnered critical praise for its standout performances and compelling plotline, earning a 77% score on Rotten Tomatoes and potential awards buzz.

During a recent interview with Variety, Reijn was asked whether a sequel to Babygirl was in the works, to which she responded with enthusiasm about the potentiality. While she expressed interest in revisiting the story, she clarified that no sequel is currently in development.

"I would love that actually. I have so many more stories about it."

Instead, she revealed that she is writing a new project, which...

Halina Reijn on ‘Babygirl,’ Botox, and That Kinky Milk Scene: Intimacy Coordinators Allow for ‘More Extreme Sex’ Onscreen
Image
Editor’s Note: The following story contains some spoilers for “Babygirl,” now in theaters.

Nicole Kidman and writer/director Halina Reijn take a leap of faith into the (hopefully) orgasmic unknown with their new film “Babygirl,” about buttoned-up CEO Romy’s (Kidman) affair with her 25-year-old intern, Samuel (Harris Dickinson).

The Christmas Day A24 release features a daring — and Venice Volpi Cup-winning — performance from Kidman as a woman who grew up in a free-thinking cult, only to emerge into a kinkless, corporatized world repressing her hardly straight-and-narrow desires and tucking away her secret, singularly weird self. The other gaping void in the room? Romy has never had an orgasm with her husband, Jacob (Antonio Banderas), with whom she shares two daughters. Enter Samuel with a pocketful of dog treats and an enthusiasm for indulging Romy’s desire to be dominated, and Romy is free-falling into a potentially destructive affair.

“The whole movie is basically about,...

'Babygirl' Director Defends the Age Gap Between Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson
Image
A24’s new erotic thriller Babygirl has caused a lot of buzz this holiday season, but not for the reasons you might think. While some have called it "sexy, dark and unpredictable," others are signaling the noticeable age gap between stars Nicole Kidman (57) and Harris Dickinson (28) as a point of contention. Now, director Halina Reijn has found herself coming to the defense of her new movie, which opened on Christmas day with a box office take of $1.5 million.

Babygirl stars Kidman as Romy Mathis, the CEO of a tech company in New York City who begins a torrid affair with her much younger intern, Samuel (Dickinson). The film is currently Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 77% rating, while its Popcornmeter sits much lower at 54%. In a recent interview with W Magazine, it was pointed out to Reijn that Babygirl isn’t the first movie of hers to feature an age gap,...

Babygirl (2024) Movie Review: Nicole Kidman Dominates in a Submissive Role of Tortured Desire
Halina Reijn
The erotic thriller, according to some of the old guard, is dead—murdered by a completely sex-wary generation of prudes that has turned reasonable hesitations about consent and representation into an outright dismissal of the entire concept of getting freaky in the sheets. From both ends of the debate, the positions are obviously exaggerated; eroticism in cinema isn’t dead, nor has it survived solely as a testament to the brutality of a male-dominated industry living out its perverted fantasies at the expense of the dignity of the marginalized taking their clothes off.

Suffice it to say, the argument is a contentious one, and if an erotic thriller is to make any sort of noise in the 2020s (without succumbing to tabloid drama regarding which real-life celebrity relationships it’s fractured), it might be worthwhile to tackle that contentiousness head-on. If anyone seems to be in the most suitable position for such an undertaking,...

‘Babygirl’ Lets Nicole Kidman Get Her Kink On
Image
Movies have been absolutely peerless when it comes to giving the world a chance to gaze at desirable females. What the seventh art has been notoriously bad at is exploring the concept of female desire, in all of its complexities and clandestine, dark-corner complications. This is where Babygirl comes in. An exploration of a charged sexual relationship between a female CEO and her young, male intern that ends up finding freedom in sub-dom dynamics, this drama from Dutch filmmaker Halina Reijns leans heavily into the power structures inherent in such December-May affairs.

A Key Detail in Frieza’s Transformation Shows Just How Observant Akira Toriyama Was With the Best Dragon Ball Villain
Image
Frieza is one of the most iconic villains of Dragon Ball Z. He stands out for his menacing presence, ruthless nature, polite style of speech, and unforgettable design. He stands as one of Toriyama’s most genius character creations in the entirety of the franchise.

Frieza in Dragon Ball | Credits: Toei Animation

One of the most intriguing aspects of Frieza’s character is his multi-layered transformations. Frieza was so powerful that he needed layers or coats, which are better known as ‘forms’ to suppress the power within him. Frieza’s unveiling of his forms is not just showing off his power-ups, but it is a symbolic reflection of his alien biology and primal essence.

If we take a closer examination, we will see that Frieza’s earlier forms expose what appears to be raw inner tissue of his body. This suggests a process akin to reptilian shedding; even in a galactically superior and fearsome race,...

Real Reason Why Luffy’s Gear 5 Failed to Break the Internet Unlike What Dragon Ball Did Years Ago
Image
The appearance of Luffy’s Gear 5 transformation in the One Piece manga shook the whole fandom to its very core. Although some fans were anticipating and theorizing how and when Gear 5 would happen, the majority of them were pleasantly surprised how it actually turned out. For one thing, the connection with the Sun God Nika was really shocking and fans applauded Eiichiro Oda for pulling up the Nika dance panel way back in the Skypiea arc.

When One Piece episode 1071 dropped and fans witnessed Luffy’s Gear 5 animated, they were expecting it to break the internet on par with Dragon Ball Super episode 110, where Goku activated Ultra Instinct for the first time. While global streaming sites like Crunchyroll did crash due to massive incoming traffic, One Piece still failed to capture the minds of people in general like how Dragon Ball and Ultra Instinct did.

Sharon Stone Revealed the Marvel Actress Basic Instinct Desperately Wanted Instead of Her: ‘I was the 13th woman that they offered’
Image
When people think of Basic Instinct, it’s hard to recall the movie without imagining Sharon Stone’s iconic performance as Catherine Tramell. But believe it or not, Stone’s journey to the film was marked by significant obstacles, starting from the audition to the credits. According to the actress, she was apparently one of the last people producers wanted, since they had their eyes set on a Marvel actress.

According to Sharon Stone, while she was the 13th person to be offered the role, producers actually wanted the Ant-Man and the Wasp star Michelle Pfeiffer to agree to the role of Catherine Tramell. Unfortunately, after Pfeiffer rejected and so did the other 11 actresses, Stone was eventually offered the role. But that wasn’t the end of her struggles—the actress revealed that she was not allowed to have her name on the poster.

Toei Did a Horrible Job in Executing a Legendary Dragon Ball Transformation That Akira Toriyama Aced in the Manga
Image
In the 40-year time span of Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball franchise, the series has witnessed 21 Super Saiyan transformations. These Super Saiyan transformations have upgraded with time and have provided the Saiyans with the power that they needed to save their world and take down dangerous villains.

Goku’s Super Saiyan God form | Credit: Toei Animation

Each of these transformations has different power levels, and some of them are even unique to a particular Saiyan character. However, these Super Saiyan transformations are sometimes executed differently in the anime series than in the manga. The biggest example of this is the Super Saiyan God transformation.

The enticing godly power is one of the strongest Super Saiyan transformations that has been introduced in the series. And while it was greatly emphasized in the manga by Toriyama, Toei Animation did not give much preference to it. The anime series only introduced it for a limited amount of time,...

Matt Smith isn’t a fan of trigger warnings: “I worry everything’s being dialed and dumbed down”
Image
Over the last few years, we’ve seen the rise of trigger warnings in all manner of media, from TV shows to movies and even plays. While speaking with The Times of London, Matt Smith gave his two cents on trigger warnings. The House of the Dragon actor worries about “everything being dialed and dumbed down” when audiences are given a warning on what and how to feel.

“We should be telling morally difficult stories, nowadays in particular,” Smith said. “It’s Ok to feel uncomfortable or provoked while looking at a painting or watching a play, but I worry everything’s being dialed and dumbed down. We’re telling audiences they’re going to be scared before they’ve watched something.“

Smith continued, “Isn’t being shocked, surprised, stirred the point? Too much policing of stories and being afraid to bring them out because a climate is a certain way is a shame.

Let’s Talk About Sex, Baby: Erotic Films Seduce Venice
Image
Venice has got its sexy back. Erotica of all varieties — gay, straight, kinky and theoretical — is on glorious display at this year’s Venice Film Festival, with plenty of sizzling action onscreen and little of it gratuitous.

Two of the, em, hottest festival titles this year — Halina Reijn’s Babygirl and the TV series Disclaimer from Alfonso Cuarón — open with orgasms. Babygirl also climaxes to a close, with star Nicole Kidman, playing a tech manager who discovers a taste for Bdsm, in a state of near or total undress throughout much of the movie.

Queer, an adaptation of William S. Burroughs’ autobiographical novel, and the latest from Challengers and Call Me by Your Name filmmaker Luca Guadagnino — a director apparently on a one-man mission to bring back sexy cinema — stars Daniel Craig as a drug-addicted American expat in Mexico, circa 1950, who begins to obsess over, and pursue, a younger, bi-curious navy sailor,...

Image
A24 gave their satirical slasher Bodies Bodies Bodies (you can read our 8/10 review at This Link) a wide theatrical release back in August, and now it has been announced that Bodies Bodies Bodies is heading to Blu-ray and DVD on October 18th – so it’s coming home just in time for Halloween. The script got some touch-up work from Sarah DeLappe, Chloe Okuno, Joshua Sharp, and Aaron Jackson in the time between acquisition when it...
