Elif Shafak’s Turkish Sex Worker Story ‘10 Minutes 38 Seconds in This Strange World’ Set for Film Adaptation (Exclusive)
Image
Turkish-British writer Elif Shafak’s Booker Prize-nominated novel “10 Minutes 38 Seconds in This Strange World,” which is set in the world of Istanbul sex workers, will be adapted into a feature film by Madrid-based Isb Films and Turkey’s Limon Film.

Shafak, who is Turkey’s most widely read female author, is known for her vast body of work spanning a dozen novels that have been translated into 50 languages. They often delve into themes of human rights, freedom of expression and identity. “10 Minutes 38 Seconds in This Strange World” is the first of her novels to be adapted into a feature film.

More than a decade ago, she moved from Turkey to the U.K. after her book “The Bastard of Istanbul” – which touches on the mass killings of Armenians during the final years of the Ottoman Empire – led her to be tried for “insulting Turkishness,” for which she was eventually acquitted.

Night will be retaining a majority of the team, including A.J. Feliciano, Head of The Roost Podcast Network.

The Roost receives over 350 million views and 20 million monthly audio downloads. It features 47 podcasts including H3 Podcast, The Phil DeFranco Show, Flashback with Smosh, The Yard and Jeff FM.

Madden NFL 21 Review
Image
I think it would be fair to say that 2020 has been a difficult year. Covid-19 has disrupted all aspects of society and has drastically altered how we approach any and every social situation. Typically, sports would serve as an outlet for the public to engage in, but even that has been difficult. Three of the four major leagues have just recently ramped up, and we are still waiting on the NFL to resume normal operations. Even with the league being in a state of upheaval, EA Sports’ stalwart franchise must roll on. Madden NFL 21 is about as normal of an NFL experience fans will get this year, so the pressure is on more than usual.

Of the major sports franchises out there, perhaps none have assumed the role of perennial whipping boy quite like Madden. Even as a fan of the series, it’s hard not to see why. The...

Madden 21’s The Yard Isn’t NFL Blitz But It’s Still Important for Arcade Football
Image
The Madden franchise and I go way back. I poured a lot of fifth-grade free time into Madden NFL 97 for the Super Nes, and I can still hear that edition’s chiptune menu music in my head when I think about the series.

But, I have to be honest. For all the Madden games I’ve owned over the years — give or take 15, by my count — I’d trade them all for a high-quality arcade-style football experience.

Quality is highly subjective when we’re talking about a video game. For you, quality arcade football might be EA Sports Big’s NFL Street franchise, which released three titles annually between 2004 and 2006 before taking its streetball and going home. Or maybe you checked out 2017’s Kickstarter-funded Mutant Football League from Digital Dreams Entertainment, a way-out-there unlicensed experience featuring monsters with parody names like Bomb Shady, Wham Neutron, Sven Rottenburger, and Baker...

Madden NFL 21 Review: What Happened to This Football Titan?
Johnny Manziel
Anyone who’s purchased any of the latest in EA Sports’ Madden NFL franchise over the past 15 years has at least heard the yearly gripe from jaded fans: “You’re paying $60 for a roster update.”

That’s not the case with Madden NFL 21. This time, you’re paying $60 for a roster update, a whole mess of ugly typos and hiccups, and some interesting new additions which fulfill their promise about as well as Johnny Manziel.

Okay, maybe not quite as disappointing as Johnny Football. Regardless, this is the most underwhelming new installment of Madden since I began reviewing the franchise professionally seven years ago, and it’s in the running for the series’ lowest point in decades.

Again, Madden NFL 21 is more than just “the same game with rookies added.” The latest iteration includes a brand-new mode called The Yard, an arcade-style alternative to the more traditional sim that evokes a backyard football vibe.

When Madden NFL 21 hits stores on August 28, there will be a new mode added to the game. It’s called The Yard and it’s being marketed as, “a fun, dynamic mode for players to experience backyard football with fast-paced, small-sided gameplay.”. The Yard is really all about creativity and individuality. “House rules are the […]

Netflix Acquires Rights to Turkish Prison Drama ‘Avlu’
Netflix has taken global rights to the first season of “Avlu,” the Turkish adaption of Fremantle’s hit Australian prison drama “Wentworth.”

Produced by Hayri Aslan and Limon Film, “Avlu” is set in a female prison in Istanbul, and has the same characters as the Australian original, all trying to survive life behind bars.

The deal with Netflix was brokered by Fremantle’s distribution arm based in Dubai. The show will launch on Netflix on Friday.

In Turkey it debuted on Star TV in March 2018, and the broadcaster tripled its episode order for Season 2, to 33 installments of two hours each.

Fremantle-produced “Wentworth” has sold to 158 territories and has also been adapted in the Netherlands as “Celblok H,” in Germany as “Block B – Unter Arrest” and in Belgium as “Gent-West.”

For those jonesing for their Orange Is the New Black fix, help has arrived.

Netflix has acquired another women's prison drama, taking global rights to Avlu, a Turkish prison series adapted from the Australian hit Wentworth. Avlu is set go out worldwide Friday on the streamer.

Netflix inked the deal for Avlu with Fremantle, which produces the original Australian series, as well as multiple international spinoffs, and handled global sales. Wentworth, which is entering its eighth season, also streams on Netflix.

Avlu has been a ratings hit since its launch on Turkey's Star TV in March 2018. The second season, which wrapped in May, drew ...

Netflix schedule: Here’s what is coming and leaving in October 2019
Netflix has confirmed that a whopping 66 new original series, movies and specials will be debuting on the streaming service in October. Leading off the lineup is the eagerly awaited “Breaking Bad” movie, which the streaming service is billing as a “television event.” Emmy winner Aaron Paul reprises his role as Jesse Pinkman, who is on the run as his past catches up with him. The first half of the sixth and final season of the cult favorite “Bojack Horseman” will also drop this month.

Two features with awards buzz are coming to Netflix just weeks after their debuts at the Toronto film festival: “The Laundromat,” Steven Soderbergh‘s wry satire about international financial fraud that showcases Oscar darling Meryl Streep; and “Dolemite Is My Name,” a vehicle for Eddie Murphy who portrays 1970s comedian Rudy Ray Moore.

In the lead-up to Halloween, Netflix is programming a slew of scary fare,...
