Coming of age awakening is the theme of "The Last Astronaut", a process that unfolds along a decade-time continuum. We "see" young friends past, and we "infer" a cosmic future with first contact. The powers of intuition thus become the doors of perception, in our ongoing collage of stunning shots.
Our frenzied conflicts and self-important dialogue are consumed in a back and forth banter between a CIA and NASA, and are often irrelevant in a cosmos that is vast beyond comprehension until we see a more E.T. type film as opposed to finding a carefully plotted out X-Files story. Not surprising then that some of us huff and puff about the film's slowness and minimal story but with a solid payoff at the end enough humor to hold us in the seat and plenty of cinematic shots as eye candy for us not to move. The grown up scenes are believable and support the story well. For perceptive viewers, the remuneration is an inspirational sense of a unique story with 3 endings that tie together nicely.

This is for sure a coming of age film. When you're sitting down to write a coming of age movie, I suppose you have to think about particular films and what makes them the best. Usually, the answer to that is in their deeper meaning.
As mentioned in the opener, coming of age films are popular as samples, because the things that happen in them are universally applicable - this one is very unique.
It captures earthlings and aliens life both revealing this.

I enjoyed the fantastic storyline with jaw-dropping cinematography containing unexpected twists and turns. The realistic alien and cast flipping and fighting on concrete took me by surprise. I really appreciated the comedic relief throughout the film.
This movie is certainly fun but requires attention to detail. It is a story told in a steady pace, told mostly not by words but by cinematic means of expression. Perfect blend of spectacular homemade special effects and classic no music soundtrack that does not distract that brings to life creations of human imagination in both realistic and poetical way. The story itself is quite simple at a first glance. As the title implies, there is an archetypal journey, a motive repeated for several decades that the film focuses on a pendulum swing back and forth over 10 years. The impression was great enough to make me fall for entire genre of science fiction into a heart felt story of friendship.
Lovely cinematography, but really loopy writing. The parts of the disjointed exposition are gradually tied together, but the astronaut's mission gets lost in the human emotional drama. The second half felt kind of improvised. The atmospheric score (more sounds than music really) was great, and I probably would have stopped watching the movie if not for that.
