Something about this song makes me cringe, even though I like George Michael. The fashion on display in this music video is truly garish and horrendous.
Wham!'s energetic pop explosion to the world in this video is a thing of beauty, happiness and impact that are hardly seen and imitable today. Michael and Ridgeley in tune with one of their greatest efforts aligned with a powerful performance by their band, full of energy and inspired, makes of this clip and the song as well one of the most important musical moments of the 1980's.
Idea is generic and simple - a performance of the duo along with other musicians in front of a thrilled audience. George Michael's shirt in the first performance is a true icon of the decade "Choose Life", in the second part the outfit is different with those tempting shorts. And he's the one we pay more attention, not just because of his good looks, but mostly because of the feeling he brings to the song; the way he smiles; all the amazing dancing parts; it feels completely authentic, a real emotion that echoes the way the music goes. You feel a lot more alive when you see it, it gets you in a different and good mood.
Despite not being one of my favorite songs, I barely listened to it (absolutely adored the way Ben Stiller used in "Zoolander") but always respected its importance in music history. Now, with George's passing is that it hit me in such a way that I had to look back and see what I was missing all of these years. It's a great song and an even greater clip. It's like they say "you don't know what you got til it's gone". A powerful and deep voice, great composer, activist with some many good causes, a true entertainer. Sure, his solo career is the most interesting but it all goes back to Wham!, it began there. And for that, we're grateful that this precious clip jam ever existed. It brings a smile to many faces still today. 8/10

- CuriosidadesMichael's inspiration for the song was a scribbled note that his Wham! partner Andrew Ridgeley had left for his parents, intended to read "wake me up before you go" but with "up" accidentally written twice, so Ridgeley wrote "go" twice on purpose.
