After leaving WCW in 1990 due to personal issues with president Jim Herd, famous wrestling manager Jim Cornette founded the independent promotion Smoky Mountain Wrestling, along with Sandy Scott and music producer Rick Rubin. It was based out of Tennessee and contained a number of memorable wrestlers such as Paul Orndorff, Heavenly Bodies, Rock n' Roll Express, Al Snow, New Jack, Dirty White Boy, etc. Doing the play-by-play commentary was Dutch Mantell and Bob Caudle and Brian Hildebrand (aka Mark Curtis) as the referee. The show offered a lot of interesting storylines, such as Cornette's long-standing feud with the promotion's commissioner Bullet Bob Armstrong and young Tammy Lynn Stitch trying to get her feet wet as a manager, though chasing away any possible candidates.
By 1995, the promotion as well as its popularity, began to dry up due to declining business and many wrestlers signing on to other organizations. It still holds a candle to many fans who enjoyed this show.
