Dealing with depression, anxiety, and addiction is a journey and not something that’s magically cured and swept under the rug.
Many television shows prefer to do an arc on a character’s mental health journey, have them attend therapy, and assume they’re in recovery.
We appreciate the way Ginny & Georgia Season 3 continued to handle mental health storylines, mainly because Ginny and Marcus’s struggles with anxiety were ongoing. It showcased both their breakdowns and their breakthroughs.
(Amanda Matlovich/Netflix © 2025)
While the series delved into their progress, their mental health struggles weren’t the only traits that defined them, and that was so important.
So much of the series has focused on Ginny and Marcus’s mental health issues that I enjoyed how this season also featured Abby’s eating disorder and Max’s issues that often get ignored in favor of Marcus’s.

Using the soap opera for teen dramas is a hallmark of television. In a way, Netflix has weaponized the format to create a dozen shows that fill the void that traditional TV left for the target audience. Ginny & Georgia, entering its third season, continues to combine small-town life with a wild killing spree on the side. While the mother and daughter run from the past, it seems the cyclical nature of life continues to throw them curveballs. With a murder trial, a mayoral campaign, and the shifting moods of the town, Ginny & Georgia has the narrative beats to be a fun show. Unfortunately, it’s not always a good one.

It wasn't exactly a huge weekend overall at the box office, particularly by summer standards. Marvel's "Thunderbolts" won its second weekend with a $33 million haul, while Ryan Coogler's "Sinners" continued its record-breaking run by adding another $22 million. But while those movies were battling it out atop the charts, and as "A Minecraft Movie" topped $900 million globally, an indie horror movie found a surprising amount of success, albeit with a little less fanfare.
IFC's new slasher "Clown in a Cornfield" opened over the weekend with a $3.6 million domestic box office, good enough for number five on the charts. That's not a monster total on the surface, but it set a record for IFC, a company that has been around for more than two decades. It now ranks as the distributor's biggest opening weekend ever, overtaking last year's acclaimed "Late Night with the Devil" ($2.8 million), which went on to make $10 million domestically and $15 million globally.

IFC Entertainment Group Has Its Biggest Opening Weekend Ever With Clown In A Cornfield: "IFC Entertainment Group had its biggest opening weekend box office success ever with the release of Eli Craig’s Clown In A Cornfield, which grossed $3.6 million at the U.S. box office. The Rlje / Shudder film, which opened as the #1 new film in the US and 5th overall, lands the Group’s Rlje division its highest grosser to date and the Group’s widest theatrical opening, on 2,277 screens.

Clown in the Cornfield earned IFC Entertainment Group’s biggest opening weekend ever with a $3.6 million gross. It was also the company’s widest theatrical opening, on 2,277 screens.
The slasher, which opened at #5 at the box office, surpassed Late Night with the Devil‘s $2.8 million opening. That movie went on to make $10M, which Clown is projected to exceed.
Based on Adam Cesare‘s Bram Stoker Award-winning 2020 novel of the same name, Clown in a Cornfield is directed by Eli Craig (Tucker and Dale vs Evil) from a script he co-wrote with Carter Blanchard.

Clown In A Cornfield North America Box Office (Photo Credit – Instagram)
A creepy clown stalking a sleepy little town has turned into a big box office win. Clown in a Cornfield, the latest horror flick to hit the big screen, slashed its way to a record-breaking debut, pulling in $3.6 million at the North American box office (as per Box Office Mojo) over its first weekend. That’s now the highest opening ever for IFC (film distribution company), nudging aside last year’s surprise hit Late Night with the Devil, which had earned $2.8 million in its opening run.
Big Returns On A Tiny Budget
The film’s shoestring budget, which is less than $1 million, makes the box office haul even more impressive. Early signs point to it going even further, especially considering Late Night with the Devil ended up raking in $10 million. It seems momentum is definitely on Clown in a Cornfield’s side.

Clown in a Cornfielddirector Eli Craig confirms exactly who shut down the Tucker & Dale vs. Evil sequel series - and the truth will not surprise you.
Per Deadline, Craig recently discussed the numerous failed attempts to return to the world of Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. "Honestly, Tucker and Dale 2 has died more deaths than the college kids in Tucker and Dale," Craig said. "We’ve had so many versions that have almost got off its feet or, for one reason or another, have gotten killed. It really does set us back that people can’t look at the box office, the actual box office, of the movie."
"It’s always been a struggle, and then when we do set it up, and we get all the pieces together, it gets killed somehow," Craig explained. "We almost did a TV show with it that was on TNT/TBS, and...

Update May 11, 2025: Thunderbolts, aka New Avengers, dominated the box office during the May 9-11 weekend, earning $33.1 million in its second outing. Ticket sales for Disney's Marvel movie dropped just 55 percent from its $74 million opening, buoyed by its A-minus CinemaScore and glowing reviews. This is a better hold than several previous Marvel films, including Captain America: Brave New World (down 68 percent), 2023's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (down 70 percent), The Marvels (down 78 percent), and 2022's Thor: Love and Thunder (down 67 percent), signaling a positive shift for the franchise.

The opening weekend of the new horror movie from Shudder is performing amazingly well. Shudder is a subscription streaming service that is known for its curated selection of horror and thriller movies. The platform, which is owned by AMC Networks, has also distributed quite a few projects as Shudder originals, both in theaters and on streaming. These titles include the anthology series Creepshow, the 2018 thriller Revenge, and the 2020 supernatural found footage movie Host.
In more recent years, Shudder has put out a number of notable theatrical releases. In addition to multiple new installments in the V/H/S franchise, this includes the uncanny breakout horror hit Skinamarink, the David Dastmalchian period piece Late Night with the Devil (which earned the best opening weekend for an IFC Films release at the time it premiered in 2024), and the buzzy slasher movie In a Violent Nature.

Last week, the big Summer cinema season kicked off with another trip to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with another Impossible Mission and a Disney remake debuting in just a few weeks. So, does that mean that horror fanatics (Aka “gore-hounds”) will have to wait for the cooler temps for their “fright fix”? Well, Rosario gave up some scares last week, and that late April “sleeper smash” Sinners is still dishing up some plasma with its blues soundtrack. So, why not a new chiller featuring the “go-to” thriller icons of the last couple of decades? No, we’re not talking about more vampires, werewolves, or zombies, but less supernatural creeps. Yes, it’s those brightly garbed, painted-on-smiles, former kids entertainers, that are now nightmare “fodder” after several “Jokers” and Pennywise of the It flicks. And how about seeing their oversized feet tromping about the usually tranquil heartland? Who wouldn’t dash...

Clown in a Cornfield director Eli Craig insists it’s just as difficult to make a horror-comedy in 2025 as it was in 2010. That’s when he made his feature directorial debut with the cult hit Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, a horror-comedy that hilariously chronicles two hillbillies who are wrongfully treated like serial killers by a group of vacationing college kids. Earlier this year, The Monkey filmmaker Oz Perkins also lamented the ongoing struggle of making horror-comedies to The Hollywood Reporter, as he had to detach his latest film from a major studio and go the indie route to get it made within his ideal subgenre.
Craig has tried to knock some sense into executives around town, but it’s been a futile effort.
“I got Tucker & Dale made, and now it’s this cult classic that’s lived on. It’s also why I haven’t gotten to work a ton in this business.

Netflix's hit comedy-drama, Ginny & Georgia, promises more adventures for the titular mother-daughter duo in a fast-approaching third season. A new trailer for the series chronicles Georgia Miller's major troubles with the law and how she plans to wiggle her way out of them.
Per Netflix, the Ginny & Georgia Season 3 trailer picks up from where Season 2 left off, when Georgia (Brianne Howey) was arrested and charged with murder during her wedding to Mayor Paul Randolph (Scott Porter). Georgia, somewhat unfazed by the potential ramifications of life imprisonment, is put on house arrest and tries to get used to her new ankle bracelet. However, reality soon sets in for Georgia while her children, Ginny (Antonia Gentry and Austin (Diesel La Torraca), fear the worst for her. Ginny and Paul also question Georgia's innocence as their family's future hangs in the balance.

Cornfields are a horror film classic, and for good reason. Having personally grown up where cornfields stretched farther than my headlights could reach, I know how quickly these fields of plenty can transform into a disorienting maze. Whether it’s the leaves whispering in the wind, the claustrophobia of narrow paths flanked by towering stalks that trap heat and smother sound, or the way shifting shadows mess with the mind, cornfields have a way of tapping into the most primal of fears.
For filmmakers, cornfields offer perfect cover for unseen terrors, their dense foliage masking movements and muffling cries for help. As unlucky protagonists push through the stalks, every rasp becomes an ominous warning, every breath a race against the unseen. And if rural terror gets your blood pumping, then you’re in luck because the new film Clown in a Cornfield is barreling down the dirt road and into theaters this Friday.

The Ginny & Georgia season three trailer shows Georgia going on trial for murder, determined to fight like a mother for her life, and reminding Ginny that she’s her ride or die. Gotta love Ginny’s reply: “Where are we riding, and why do we have to die?”
Antonia Gentry and Brianne Howey star as Ginny and Georgia. The cast also includes Diesel La Torraca as Austin, Jennifer Robertson as Ellen, Felix Mallard as Marcus, Sara Waisglass as Max, Scott Porter as Mayor Paul Randolph, Raymond Ablack as Joe, Katie Douglas as Abby, Chelsea Clark as Norah, and Nathan Mitchell as Zion.
“Georgia has just been arrested for murder during her wedding, ruining her fairy tale ending and putting the spotlight on the Millers like never before,” reads Netflix’s synopsis. “It’s always been Ginny and Georgia against the world, but the world has never come for them quite like this.

It's time, it's time! Everyone gather around because the exciting and highly-anticipated Ginny and Georgia season 3 trailer is officially here. Netflix has finally gifted us with a closer look at what's to come. And dare I say it - it could be the best season yet!
Ginny and Georgia season 3 premieres Thursday, June 5, 2025 on Netflix. The season has a total of 20 episodes, like its predecessors. Georgia is in a lot more trouble for the murder of Tom than I think she initially realized. I don't think she's going to get off that easy. Before we get into all the drama, check out the trailer below:
The stakes have never been higher in Ginny and Georgia season 3
When the trailer first starts, I was thinking, did Georgia get away with it? But, nope that's not the case. She's on house arrest and has to wear an ankle monitor while they await her trial.

Brianne Howey’s Georgia Faces A Life Sentence And Murder Trial In ‘Ginny & Georgia’ Season 3 Trailer
Netflix has released the full trailer for Season 3 of one of its biggest young adult hits, Ginny & Georgia, Season 3 of which could be headed down a dark path. The show returns to Netflix June 5 with 10 episodes.
Season 2 ended on quite a few chaotic notes, including Georgia (Brianne Howey) getting arrested at her fairytale wedding to Mayor Paul Randolph (Scott Porter).
“You know what I loved about your wedding?” Jennifer Robertson’s Ellen Baker tells Georgia in the kitchen of the Baker household. “It wasn’t this cookie cutter copy and paste affair, it was very memorable.”
“Especially the part where I was arrested,” Georgia adds.
To be clear, Georgia did commit the murder of Tom Fuller, husband of Cynthia Fuller (Sabrina Grdevich), whom she smothered in Season 2 while he was already ailing and in hospice. And her son Austin (Diesel La Torraca) witnessed her do it while he was...

The official trailer for Ginny & Georgia season three (below) teases chaos hitting the Miller family as Brianne Howey‘s Georgia is put on trial for murder after getting arrested during her wedding to Scott Porter’s Mayor Paul Randolph in the season two finale.
“Everyone thinks I’m a violent, unhinged monster,” Georgia says in the footage. “At least it can’t get any worse, right? Except if I go to prison. That would be worse.”
She adds, “I’m not a bad person, but if you come face to face with bad, you become a little bad yourself.”

Plot: After the death of her mother, Quinn (Katie Douglas) relocates to a small town called Kettle Springs with her father, who’s going to become the town’s new doctor. Once there, she becomes friends with a group of teens who like to film YouTube videos featuring a serial-killing clown called “Frendo.” However, they soon realize that Frendo is a whole lot more real than they think he is.

The kids are not all right in Clown in a Cornfield. Based on Adam Cesare’s bloody breeze of a book, which spawned a trilogy, the horror comedy goes big on kills and laughs. Behind all the carnage, though, there’s a John Hughes-esque respect for the teens, the heroes in Clown in a Cornfield.
The problem isn’t “kids today.” It’s adults today.
As Frendo the Clown rips through one kid after another in a midwestern town, Quinn Maybrook (Katie Douglas) and her friends are left to fight and survive on their own. Tucker & Dale vs. Evil director Eli Craig brings his reliable eye for fun to the material. The adaptation is more comical than the book, but the soul of the story remains intact.
The fact that Cesare taught high school isn’t surprising. He writes students with more respect than irony. The author wrote...

She meets a new group of friends, and despite being warned about them being “the wrong crowd,” she enjoys hanging out with them, doing teenage things like partying and making viral videos. Tucker & Dale vs. Evil director Eli Craig is back in the realm of slashers with Clown in a Cornfield, the adaptation of author Adam Cesare‘s young adult slasher novel. This time, the filmmaker is taking a much more serious approach that showcases suspense with the gory kills.
Clown in a Cornfield slashes into theaters on May 9, and stars Katie Douglas (Ginny & Georgia), Carson MacCormac (Shazam!), Aaron Abrams (Hannibal), Will Sasso (The Three Stooges), and Kevin Durand (Abigail).
In the film, Katie Douglas stars as Quinn, a young teen who’s recently moved to the quaint town of Kettle Springs with her father, only to discover something is seriously amiss with the place when the mascot of the defunct Baypen Corn Syrup Factory returns to kill. Again and again.
Craig, who also helmed the comedy-horror movie Little Evil and the pilot of the “Zombieland” TV series, put a lot of...

Adam Cesare’s smash-hit horror novel Clown in a Cornfield (2020) makes the leap from page to screen this week, bringing to life one of the most talked about villains in the recent horror fiction scene: Frendo The Clown. I haven’t read the book myself, but literally everyone around has been singing its praises for years now and good luck finding a “Best Young Adult Horror Books To Read This Summer” list that doesn’t include it somewhere. Directed by Eli Craig (Tucker & Dale vs. Evil), who also co-wrote the adaptation, Clown in a Cornfield (2025) is a genre-bending, grease paint splattered slasher that breaks rules, bashes brains and delivers one hell of a gory harvest for Horror fans.

The adaptation of author Adam Cesare’s Clown in a Cornfield recreates what makes the young adult novel and its subsequent sequels so special: it speaks to a younger generation about the frustrating generational divide while never sacrificing the horror. This slasher movie knows the best way to a budding horror fan’s heart is through gratuitous violence, cheer-worthy kills, and a batch of root-worthy characters that lament the frustrations that come from being disregarded by adults. Tucker and Dale vs. Evil director Eli Craig tackles the mostly faithful adaptation with aplomb, bringing the right balance of gore and comedy for a zippy, lean slasher.
Bypassing the novel’s cold open with something of a more traditional slasher opener, Clown in a Cornfield introduces protagonist Quinn Maybrook (Katie Douglas) and her dad, Dr. Glenn Maybrook (Aaron Abrams), as they arrive in their new hometown of Kettle Springs. It’s a...

In the three decades since the kids in Scream sat around explaining the rules of slasher movies, the genre has been deconstructed to the point where it can feel like there isn’t a whole lot left to subvert or satirize. And while some filmmakers are still finding fresh ways to reinvent it—most recently Jt Mollner’s Strange Darling and Chris Nash’s In a Violent Nature—there’s also a lot to be said for not getting too cute about this stuff. Eli Craig’s Clown in a Cornfield works precisely because it plays things straight, offering a nod and a wink to the genre’s rules while adhering to them in order to deliver a simple, satisfying slasher.

Fans of outlandish horror comedies like Shaun of the Dead surely know of co-writer and director Eli Craig's 2010 gem, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. The somewhat-meta slasher buddy comedy follows the trials and tribulations of two rough-around-the-edges bumpkin pals (Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine) when a crew of ignorant college kids mistake them for hick murderers during a vacation in the woods. While the beloved flick hilariously parodies redneck slasher subgenre tropes, Craig's newest horror comedy, 2025's Clown in a Cornfield, infuses sociopolitical issues, including generational and class tensions, into its fairly traditional masked murderer plot.

A drunken night of teenage debauchery ends with a couple sneaking off from their wild rager to get freaky out in a remote farmland pasture (as you do). They stumble out, horny as all hell, as the boy lags behind, no longer hearing the enthused calling of his would-be conquest; out of nowhere, a deadly clown pops out with a pitchfork and paints the cornfield with his blood. Cue the title card: “Clown in a Cornfield.”
This is just about the level of bluntness you’re in for with Eli Craig’s latest secluded slasher, and while the director’s resume—namely, his work on “Tucker and Dale vs. Evil”—would incline you towards an expectation of comedy sprinkled among the kills, you may be surprised to find how much social commentary lies at the core of this Adam Cesare adaptation. While we eagerly anticipate the upcoming slasher film Clown in a Cornfield, author of the original books has recently shared that the book series will continue with a fourth novel.
Adam Cesare first published his Bram Stoker Award-winning YA horror novel Clown in a Cornfield in 2020, followed by a sequel in 2022 and a third book in 2024. According to a new interview the author did with Bloody Disgusting, a fourth novel is on the way called Clown in a Cornfield 4: Lights, Camera, Frendo!. Cesare didn't provide many other details about the book just yet, but he did tease that things are going to "get meta."
But the author also says he likes to name his books "in an almost counterintuitive way" to keep readers on edge. Readers don't necessarily know what to expect based on titles, so the "Lights, Camera, Frendo!" subtitle might not mean what you thinks.

Quinn Maybrook (Katie Douglas) and her father discover that everything is not well in Clown in a Cornfield, the big screen adaptation of author Adam Cesare‘s young adult slasher novel. While audience reception will determine whether sequels to the movie are inevitable, Cesare’s novel has grown into an ongoing slasher saga of its own.
Up next? The fourth installment in the novel franchise.
Clown in a Cornfield, initially published in 2020 by HarperCollins, married contemporary themes to a retro styled slasher without sanitizing the horror for its younger target demographic. Its sequel, Clown in a Cornfield 2: Frendo Lives shifted gears slightly as Quinn was forced to deal with the shocking fallout from the Kettle Springs massacre. We've just come across an upcoming horror film you’ll want to keep an eye on. It's titled The Rule of Three, and it brings together the talents of Thomasin McKenzie and Katie Douglas as the lead stars. Additionally, it comes from Temple Hill Entertainment, the same production company behind Smile, and Protagonist Pictures. This marks their fourth collaboration, as the companies also teamed up on the upcoming horror movies Clown in a Cornfield and Monitor as well as the comedy Encore.
If you're a book lover and a horror fan, The Rule of Three might ring a bell. It's because it's based on Sam Ripley's 2023 horror novel of the same name. According to Deadline, this film adaptation will be the first part of a planned horror trilogy, meaning it’s intended to be a series of three interconnected films.

The upcoming horror film Clown In a Cornfield is just around the corner, and it's set to introduce audiences to someone who just may become a new slasher icon: Frendo the clown.
Clown In a Cornfield, based on the book series of the same name, follows Quinn Maybrook (Katie Douglas) as she moves to the small rural town of Kettle Springs. She quickly learns that the town is going through a rough patch, one that gets even rougher when a psychotic killer clown starts mowing through their local high school students.
The Direct's Russ Milheim sat down with Clown In the Cornfield director Eli Craig and star Kevin Durand (who plays Arthur Hill) to talk all about the film, and just how awesome Frendo will be.
