Friday, May 30 – These Five New Horror Movies Released This Week
Image
A24 is back on the big screen with a brand new nightmare this weekend, and that film from the directors of Talk to Me is joined by four fresh new horrors that are now available at home.

Here’s all the new horror that released from May 26 – May 30, 2025!

For daily reminders about new horror releases, be sure to follow @HorrorCalendar.

In A Hard Place, the monsters that roam the day and creatures that rule the night are separate entities, and they’re both out to kill genre favorites like Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp).

The indie horror-thriller was released onto VOD outlets this past Tuesday.

In the film, “After a botched job leaves a trail of bodies behind, a gang of desperate criminals seeks refuge in a remote desert hideout. But their plans fall apart fast when they discover the area is home to something far worse than the law — an...

Pretty Boy – Review
Image
A scene from Pretty Boy. Courtesy of Lionsgate

Psycho slasher flicks are hard to predict on the quality scale. Some viewers only care about the gore level. Others look more for novelty in the methods of dispatch; the more studious types may seek more in the plot and character vein to understand they whys of the situation. Pretty Boy is pretty good on the first two, but weak on the third. What I didn’t know before watching was that this 2021 movie is a sequel, picking up right after the events of 2019’s Blind. I then watched it, too, and probably would have liked this one better if I’d seen them in the correct order. But not by all that much.

The eponymous masked murderer has a fixation on a blind former starlet (Sarah French). As this one opens, he’s schlepping her body around Hollywood Hills for reasons...

‘Garden of Eden’ Trailer Promises Brutal, Unforgettable, Creative Kills [Exclusive]
Image
Garden of Eden will be unleashed digitally on June 20 via Gravitas Ventures, with a Blu-ray and DVD release to follow.

Pray for your sins with Bloody Disgusting’s exclusive first look at the gory film’s trailer and posters below.

The press release eloquently describes the movie: “Think ‘American Horror Story‘ if it had a kinky and debaucherous fetish filled three-way with Martyrs and Hostel in a church pew.”

The Eden family are devout Christians who do everything they can to live the word of God and set an example of what is right and wrong. They have been very successful in business and are rich beyond their needs. In order to give back, the family throws garden parties. Each guest that is lucky enough to find a key at the party gets to have their most wished for dream come true. But a dream for some can be a nightmare for others.

Back at the end of 2023, we heard that production had wrapped on Brute 1976, a horror project described as an homage to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes. Now, the film has taken a huge step toward making its way out into the world, as Cinephobia Releasing has announced that they have acquired the U.S. distribution rights! Peculiar Masked Killer Slasher Throwback 'Pretty Boy' Official Trailer
Image
"Ohhh how he loved his dolls..." Lionsgate has unveiled the official trailer for this indie horror film called Pretty Boy, made by LA-based genre filmmaker Marcel Walz as one of his latest horror features. This is finally getting a VOD release in May this year four years after it first debuted. Pretty Boy premiered at both FrightFest and the Popcorn Frights Film Festival back in 2021. Suffering from blindness after a botched laser surgery, Hollywood actress Faye is abducted from her hillside estate by a masked lunatic named Pretty Boy. This masked killer takes Faye from her home up in the Hollywood hills and crashes a Valentine's Day party where the bloodshed continues. The indie horror film Sarah French as Faye, with Heather Grace Hancock, Devanny Pinn, Jake Red, Andrew Rohrbach, Sarah Nicklin, Fritzi Marth, Jed Rowen. This looks mostly mediocre & derivative - I guess there's a reason this took four years to finally get released.

Pretty Boy: Marcel Walz slasher gets a VOD release in May
Image
We’ve been waiting years for director Marcel Walz’s Pretty Boy, a follow-up to his 2019 “stylish, dreamy slasher” Blind (watch it Here, read my review at This Link) – and now, finally, we know exactly when it’s going to make its way out into the world, as Lionsgate has announced that they’re giving Pretty Boy a VOD release on May 27th! The trailer can be seen in the embed above.

Described as a “gloriously melodramatic suspense slasher,” Pretty Boy is about a masked killer named Pretty Boy, who takes a blind woman from her home in the Hollywood hills and crashes a Valentine’s Day party where the bloodshed continues as he runs amok with his butcher knife. Expect disco lights, glitter, a killer soundtrack, and lots and lots of gore! Here’s the synopsis: Suffering from blindness after a botched laser surgery, Hollywood actress Faye is abducted...

Tokio Hotel Singer Bill Kaulitz Lands Film Debut In Marcel Walz’s Indie Horror ‘Brute 1986’
Image
Exclusive: Bill Kaulitz has swapped the concert stage for the big screen by landing his first film role.

The Tokio Hotel frontman, whose band is among Germany’s most successful music acts, has landed a role in Brute 1986, an indie pic inspired by 1980s slasher movies.

In the film, Leather Kobra, a Sunset Strip-style glam metal band films a music video in an abandoned Western town in the middle of nowhere. Ignoring ‘no trespassing’ signs, the rebellious group have no idea they are being watched by the Birdy family, who will meet them with a “level of brutality that is as vicious as it is creative,” according to producers.

Starring alongside Kaulitz are Gigi Gustin (Stiletto), Sarah French (Blind), Pancho Moler (3 From Hell), Lew Temple (The Devil’s Rejects), Heather Grace Hancock (Wicked City) and Dazelle Yvette (Garden of Eden).

Review: Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar
Image
Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar very much wants to be one of the plethora of low-budget 1970s knock offs of Star Wars riding the comet tail of that phenomenon. It’s just not bad enough to be lumped in with Bartle Beyond the Stars or the 3-D mess of Spacehunters. Nor is it good enough to be a thoughtful low-budget meditation on the soul. It falls in between and is quickly forgotten the moment you turn off the DVD of the 2022 release, out now from Uncork’d Entertainment.

Late in the 30th century, mankind has somehow managed to survive the contemporary mess we’ve made of ourselves and has even managed to find a way to preserve the human soul, reducing it to a blue goo. The catch is that it’s expensive, so only the top 1% of the 1% can afford it, although starship captain Kip Corman (Michael Paré), a scavenger eking out a living,...

‘Bloodthirst’ (2023) Ending Explained & Movie Summary: Did John Slay The Master Vampire?
Image
Michael Su’s 2023 film, Bloodthirst, is about a vampire hunter who earns his bread slaying vampires in a post-apocalyptic world. This world is overrun by vampires and is controlled mainly by two factions, who are always at war. As for humans, they remain few in number. As a result, both factions of the blood-sucking beasts are on the brink of extinction, owing to both starvation and the growing threat of vampire hunters who’ll do anything to free this world from these demons. The vampires, on the flip side, often infiltrate human populations in large numbers to drain them of their blood and increase their numbers. As a fallout, they are in continuous dispute with their human counterparts. Those who’re lucky die, and those who aren’t, usually end up joining their flock. They aren’t like the usual vampires we see in the movies, who only poke at night to fill their bellies.

‘Bloodthirst’ Review
Image
Stars: Costas Mandylor, Robert Lasardo, Tara Reid, Wesley Cannon, Sarah French, Elissa Dowling, Bishop Stevens | Written by Adrian Milnes, Massimiliano Cerchi | Directed by Michael Su

Bloodthirst is from the folks at Mahal Empire, last year they gave us their version of the zombie apocalypse, Bridge of the Doomed. This year they’re revisiting the apocalypse, only in Bloodthirst the threat comes from a different strain of the undead, vampires. Interestingly, both films were directed by Michael Su and written by Adrian Milnes this time with a story credit to Massimiliano Cerchi

In the world of Bloodthirst two factions of vampires fight for control of what’s left of the planet. What’s left of humanity is caught in the middle and rapidly heading for extinction, something that would doom the vampires as well. John Shepard walks that world as a vampire hunter who’s on the trail of The Master Vampire.

That’s a Wrap trailer promotes giallo thriller by showing off the bad reviews – Exclusive
Blind (2014)
The creative team behind Blind (watch it Here, read my review at This Link) and its sequel Pretty Boy recently launched a production company called Neon Noir, and their first production is a giallo thriller called That’s a Wrap, starring Cerina Vincent of Cabin Fever. Quiver Distribution gave the film a digital release back in August, and it has now made its way over to the Tubi streaming service – and to promote the film now that it’s free to stream, we have the Exclusive first look at a new trailer for That’s a Wrap that shows off quotes from the bad reviews the movie has received! The bad reviews cited things like “too much gore” and “too much nudity” as negatives. You can watch the bad reviews trailer for That’s a Wrap in the embed above.

That’s a Wrap Review

Plot: When filmmaker Mason Maestro throws a private party after production wraps on his new slasher flick, someone dressed like the killer in the movie starts knocking off the partiers one-by-one.

Review: After working together on the stalker film Blind (read my review at This Link) and its sequel Pretty Boy (which we’re still anxiously waiting to see), director Marcel Walz, screenwriter Joe Knetter, and star Sarah French have teamed up once again to launch a production company called Neon Noir. Their first production is That’s a Wrap, a giallo slasher that takes both clear inspiration from the works of Italian filmmakers like Mario Bava and Dario Argento – especially due to the fact that Walz and cinematographer Marcus Friedlander have soaked nearly every shot in colorful lighting – and from the Scream franchise, in that it’s a meta film where the characters work in the horror business.

Marcel Walz Discusses Meta Horror Movie That's a Wrap
Image
That's a Wrap is an upcoming horror comedy movie that combines the style of a Giallo with the meta whodunit of Scream. The plot concerns the cast of a slasher movie, also titled That's a Wrap, celebrating at a wrap party when they are slowly picked off one at a time by someone dressed as the villain of the movie they just made. Director Marcel Walz spoke with MovieWeb about the film.

The Independent Horror of Neon Noir

That's a Wrap is undoubtedly an independent film. However, fitting with its self-referential meta framework, it also comments upon indie cinema, but in a loving way. “I mean, we do not make fun of [the indie film world], but we do explain the wider audience of the mainstream people, what it means to work in the indie world and also these horror movies." He continued:

We make fun of it, but not really. We just want...

Confused? Don’t be, That’s a Wrap is an exercise in meta filmmaking set at the wrap party for director Mason Maestro’s latest film, That’s a Wrap. Mason, his wife Lily, and the film’s producer played by Frédéric von Anhalt, best known for being married to Zsa Zsa Gabor will all be there.

[Popcorn Frights 2023 Review] Gillao-Inspired That’S A Wrap Carves Up A Synth-Heavy Indie Stunner
Marcel Walz’s That’s a Wrap unites the director’s visually dazzling style with the Giallo subgenre in a match made in horror heaven. Vibrant scenes, solid performances, and a killer synth soundtrack accent this fun murder mystery that’s sure to please a wide array of horror fans.

That’s a Wrap begins just as a fictional “That’s a Wrap” has finished filming. Teaser trailer fresh off the shelf, director Mason (Robert Donavan) gathers the cast of his newest Giallo horror movie to celebrate a wrap party with his wife, veteran actress Lily (Monique Parent). The cast, including the film’s final girl Harper (Sarah French), quickly become bored with the tame party, and scatter about the studios and set pieces. Not unlike the very film they’re celebrating, sex, drugs, and booze quickly rule the evening. Unfortunately, another element of “That’s a Wrap” has crashed the party…...

While we keep waiting to hear distribution news for the Blind (watch it Here, read my review at This Link) sequel Pretty Boy, the film’s creative team is continuing to create. Now production has also wrapped on the second Neon Noir project, a horror film called Garden of Eden!

Directed by Walz from a script by Knetter, Garden of Eden has the following synopsis: The Eden family are devout Christians and do everything they can to live the word of God and set an example of what is right and wrong. They have been very successful in business and are rich beyond their needs. In order to give back,...

‘Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar’ Review #2

Stars: Michael Pare, Sarah French, Anahit Setian, Tyler Gallant, Olivier Gruner, Rachele Brooke Smith, Sadie Katz, Jed Rowen, Elise Muller | Written by Garo Setian, Joe Knetter | Directed by Garo Setian

Spoiler Alert… I f**king loved Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar.

This was quite possibly the most fun I have had watching a sci-fi movie as of late… Any budget! You know you’re in for an absolute ride when in the first 10 minutes the line “I’m going to bathe in your blood and tears” is dropped. Normally a scary thought if it hadn’t been for the massive lava dragon wormy dinosaur thing moments prior.

I will always be a fan of a movie that is fully aware that it maybe doesn’t have the budget it needs to be the movie it wants to be, but does not let that stand in its way of throwing...

Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar Review
Image
Plot: Space scavengers and a group of mercenaries race across the cosmos in a search for a long-lost freighter that is said to contain great treasure.

Review: I have a lot of admiration for filmmakers who don’t let financial limitations stifle their creativity or force them to minimize the scope of their stories. In that regard, there’s a lot to admire about director Garo Setian’s sci-fi adventure film Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar. Just like the title instantly brings to mind Star Wars, Space Wars is reminiscent of the low budget sci-fi movies producers like Roger Corman pumped out in the wake of the original Star Wars’ success. You know, movies like Battle Beyond the Stars and the movies that featured stock footage from Battle Beyond the Stars. Space Wars just happens to have been made on an even lower budget than those had.

In his feature debut,...

Bad Trailer for Low Budget 'Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar' Film
Image
"It can't be found." Neither can any good directors, I guess. Uncork'd Ent. has revealed an official trailer for a low budget sci-fi creation called Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar, marking the feature directorial debut of an editor named Garo Setian. Yeah there isn't much here. The title and the footage looks like it's another The Asylum spoof, with even worse VFX. Life is an adventure for space scavengers Kip Corman and his daughter Taylor as they navigate their ship through a universe filled with monsters, aliens, and robots in order to reach the mythical Deepstar and collect the riches within. They want to make bank in hopes that the money will allow them to bring back their loved one from the dead. The action-packed sci-fi adventure movie stars Michael Paré, Olivier Gruner, Sarah French, Tyler Gallant, Rachele Brooke Smith, and Sadie Katz. This looks so hilariously bad, it's beyond parody,...

Image
Stars: Michael Pare, Sarah French, Anahit Setian, Tyler Gallant, Olivier Gruner, Rachele Brooke Smith, Sadie Katz, Jed Rowen, Elise Muller | Written by Garo Setian, Joe Knetter | Directed by Garo Setian

It’s been a while since I’ve watched a low-budget sci-fi action movie that wants to be a big-budget sci-fi movie but that’s exactly what you get with Space Wars: Quest For The Deepstar. The filmmakers did not let a lack of funds get in the way of lots of CGI, huge monsters, spacecraft and futuristic weaponry!

In Space Wars: Quest For The Deepstar we see various groups of people crossing paths across the galaxy all linked basically in wanting to kill each other. Of course, we do get the ‘good guys’, the father and daughter duo of Kip (Michael Pare) and Taylor (Sarah French). They soon get chased by a group of outlaws when they pick up...

‘Bermuda Island’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: John Wells, Sarah French, Tom Sizemore, Noel Gugliemi, Victor V Gelsomino, Sheri Davis, Jackson Everest, Wesley Cannon, Bill Victor Arucan, Isabelle Urganci | Written by Michael Mahal, Sonny Mahal, Robert Thompson | Directed by Adam Werth

For his feature-film debut, director Adam Werth throws audiences into the action on the Los Angeles streets. A sting operation results in FBI agents arresting arms dealer Diego Montalban (Noel Gugliemi). He is escorted onto a plane by armed federal officers, although a freak storm causes the flight to crash-land onto the titular island. As the plane-crash survivors separate into factions and grapple with the mysterious island’s inhabitants, the spectre of the TV series Lost looms over the film. While the show was notable for having the most expensive pilot episode at the time, costing 14 million, their catering would likely eclipse this film’s budget.

Early scenes are spent following Diego to give the...
