Amazon MGM is developing a biopic about golf legend Tiger Woods, with “King Richard” director Reinaldo Marcus Green and Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions in talks to direct and produce, respectively.

Winkler films is on board to produce the film, which will be adapted from “The Tiger Slam,” a new book released this past November by former Golf Magazine editor-in-chief Kevin Cook.

The book takes its name from Woods’ most famous achievement: winning four consecutive major tournaments starting with the 2000 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach and continuing with the Open Championship and PGA Championship later that year before winning the Masters in the spring of 2001.

The studio picked up the film rights to Kevin Cook’s book, The Tiger Slam, and King Richard director Reinaldo Marcus Green is in talks to helm the film adaptation, with Winkler Films also producing.

Cook, a former Sports Illustrated senior editor and editor in chief of Golf Magazine, in The Tiger Slam offers an inside look at the early streak of victories that left Woods far ahead of his rivals on the pro golf tour. The book includes accounts from Wood’s caddie, his coach, opponents and supporters.

A biopic on one of the greatest golfers to ever play the game and one of the most influential athletes for the sport, Tiger Woods, has been set up at Amazon MGM Studios, with Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions in talks to produce, an individual with knowledge of the project told IndieWire.

Amazon MGM optioned the rights to the book “The Tiger Slam: The Inside Story of the Greatest Golf Ever Played” by author Kevin Cook. The book was published in November 2024 and gives the behind-the-scenes story of how Woods in 2000, already having dominated the Masters earlier in his career, managed to win four major golf titles in a row that left all of his other rivals on the course in the dust.

Reinaldo Marcus Green, who directed the biopic “King Richard” about Venus and Serena Williams’ father that won Will Smith an Oscar, is in talks to direct the film.

Scandal and injury has dominated the narrative of Woods’ later years – he just underwent Achilles surgery – but this movie will not tell that story. The book by the former Sports Illustrated senior editor and Golf Magazine editor-in-chief Cook focuses on what is still considered the greatest feat in golf history, called The Tiger Slam.

Exclusive: AMC Networks has acquired North American rights to Monsieur Spade, a one-hour drama starring Clive Owen from The Queen’s Gambit co-creator Scott Frank and City On A Hill showrunner Tom Fontana. Black Bear Television also has joined as the series’ studio and will deficit finance.

FilmNation Entertainment (I Know This Much Is True) will handle international distribution outside of North America. French production company Haut et Court TV will co-produce and handle local production services.

The series will be shot in France this summer. Pre-production is underway.

Co-written by Fontana & Frank, and to be directed by Frank, Monsieur Spade centers around writer Dashiell Hammett’s great detective Sam Spade (Owen), the protagonist of Hammett’s 1930 classic The Maltese Falcon. Monsieur Spade finds Spade (Owen) in the South of France in 1963 at the end of the Algerian War, years after the events depicted in The Maltese Falcon.
