Oscars organizers have delayed the announcement of its 2025 nominations. The Academy has shifted its announcement and voting schedule in light of the ongoing California wildfires.
Deadline reports that Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) president Bill Kramer sent a letter to Academy members to confirm that the nominations' ceremony will be moved. Originally set for next Friday (Jan. 17), the 2025 Oscar nominees will now be announced next Sunday (Jan. 19). “We want to offer our deepest condolences to those who have been impacted by the devastating fires across Southern California. So many of our members and industry colleagues live and work in the Los Angeles area, and we are thinking of you,” Kramer wrote.

As the highly destructive wildfires continue to devastate the Los Angeles area, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has sent a letter to its members to inform them of new developments. The voting period has been extended by two days, which has also pushed the announcement of the Academy Award nominations back by several days. The nominations will now be announced on January 19th.
The letter from CEO Bill Kramer reads: “Dear Academy members, We want to offer our deepest condolences to those who have been impacted by the devastating fires across Southern California. So many of our members and industry colleagues live and work in the Los Angeles area, and we are thinking of you. Given the fire situation, we want to share some updates regarding an extension to the Oscars nominations voting window as well as updated information on Oscars Shortlist Screenings, Oscars Bake-Offs, and the Academy Museum.

The hit '90s sitcom "Seinfeld" was ostensibly about a fictionalized version of comedian Jerry Seinfeld (played by himself), but in reality, it was about one of the most deeply dysfunctional friend groups in television history. Each of the four members of the core gang was absolutely vital to the show's success, as they balanced one another. The dynamic doesn't work without their individual quirks. Conceptualized as a "show about nothing" by series creator Larry David, the characters became the real draw, and that made it especially noticeable when one of them was missing.
Elaine Benes, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, was the only female member of the core four, but that wasn't the original plan. In fact, a waitress named Claire (Lee Garlington) was originally planned to be the fourth lead, but the writers dropped her after the pilot because they wanted someone more active with the main group. Elaine,...

At the beginning of the "Seinfeld" episode "The Parking Garage", Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), Kramer (Michael Richards), Jerry (Jerry Seinfeld), and George (Jason Alexander) have just completed a trip to a shopping mall in New Jersey. Elaine has purchased a few pet goldfish and carries them in a plastic baggie. More inconveniently, Kramer has just purchased an outside, window-mounted air conditioning unit, which he insists on awkwardly carrying back to the car in spite of its heaviness.
The main issue of the episode: no one can remember where they parked. The bulk of this misadventure takes place in the parking garage as the quartet becomes increasingly frustrated with their plight. Jerry has to pee, and doesn't want to walk all the way back to the mall to find a bathroom, leading to an awkward situation when he tries to whizz in a corner. The same then happens to George. Both are caught by a security guard.

Many of the best television series of all time toe the line between nuanced social and political commentary, often using less-than-perfect characters or situations as foils to get across some sort of theme. From classic sitcoms like All in the Family to new series like Black-ish, many of television's best works create delicate conflicts in order to tell a compelling story.
But even some of the best television series of all time step over the line sometimes, marking a nearly perfect series with an episode that fans would be happy to forget. Though these series are typically flawless in their ability to tell compelling stories and use uncomfortable situations to get across powerful themes, the creators occasionally failed to write the story in a balanced way and were left with some problematic episodes.

When Charlie’s Angels premiered in 1976, it wasn’t just another crime drama — it was a revolution.
For the first time, three women were the stars of an action-packed TV series, solving crimes, going undercover, and looking fabulous while doing it.
But beneath the glossy exterior of glamorous disguises and high-octane adventures, the show reflected the growing complexities of feminism in the 1970s.
(ABC/Screenshot)
It walked a tightrope between empowerment and exploitation, earning both praise and criticism.
Behind the scenes, contract disputes, casting shake-ups, and creative tensions added to the drama, while the Angels themselves became icons who transcended the small screen.
This is the story of how Charlie’s Angels broke barriers, set new standards, and left a legacy that continues to resonate.

The 1980s were a successful decade for the thriller genre, and produced plenty of hidden gems. Some of the best suspense-ridden movies in the history of cinema debuted during that period. The period opened with a disturbing masterpiece of fear with The Shining, and it proceeded to give the audience more cinematographic gems. While some 80s cult classic movies like The Blade Runner are still remembered and praised, others appear to be largely overlooked by today's public.
Perhaps they were overshadowed by bigger names when they first came out, or they simply faded into obscurity over the years. Like many subsequent underrated 90s thrillers, plenty of great representatives of this genre from the 1980s deserve a second look. Audiences, especially those who are attracted to the dark allure of psychologically disturbing and emotionally intriguing stories, deserve the opportunity to rediscover these hidden treasures.

The Motion Picture Academy has reached out to its members to assure them that AMPAS is still committed to its work in collection and film preservation, even amid the recent layoffs that impacted its library and archival staff.
Late last month, AMPAS let go of 16 staffers, including 14 from the Academy Film Archive and Margaret Herrick Library. Among those let go was Mike Pogorzelski, the head of the film archive. The restructuring sparked some outcry, including a petition from a film preservation group called Missing Movies demanding the staffers be re-hired, as well as the cancellation of an event for Home Movie Day that was meant to take place at the Academy Museum later this month.
Academy CEO Bill Kramer however in a note to members, and obtained by IndieWire, said regarding the changes to the collections and preservation teams at the archive, museum, and library, “please know that we are...

Despite the fact that he’s been busy performing stand-up dates and making terrible movies about breakfast pastries, Jerry Seinfeld still somehow finds the time to randomly call into Am radio shows that have disparaged his work.
It all began when New York sports radio station Wfan host Chris McMonigle recently raised the subject of Seinfeld while discussing the NBA. The league’s color-coded regular season tournament courts have been somewhat controversial, with a number of fans comparing the look of the red Chicago Bulls court to the neon sign from Kenny Rogers Roasters. You know, the one that messes up Kramer’s rods and cones.
The episode, “The Chicken Roaster,” had already spawned countless memes, thanks to that blazing red chicken sign’s effect on Kramer’s apartment.
The Seinfeld comparison became a frequent joke among basketball fans, thanks to the intensely off-putting vibe of the blood red court.

Today the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has sent a letter to its membership clarifying recent staffing changes across their collections and preservation teams at the Academy archive, museum, and library. It was reported at the end of October that 16 staff members had been laid off as part of a broader restructuring designed to bring all collecting, restoration, and preservation efforts together under the newly created Academy Collection and Preservation Department. Among those let go were Mike Pogorzelski — director of the Academy Film Archive for the last 24 years — and many veteran Archive staff members Sean Savage, Lynne Kirste, Joe Lindner, Melissa Levesque, Mike Brostoff, and Ed Carter. Longtime Academy librarian Anne Coco was also among those leaving the organization.

There is no denying that the entertainment industry does wonders when it comes to artists achieving their desired lives. However, there has always been a dark side to it behind the curtains of glamor, and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s True Lies co-star Eliza Dushku knows this all too well. You’d be forgiven if you forgot that Elaine had a roommate on Seinfeld. Despite the fact that Elaine lived with Tina for at least the first third of Seinfeld’s nine seasons — when Tina moved out is unclear — she only ever appeared three times on the show.
The first time was during the formative episode “The Deal,” where Jerry and Elaine try to work out a “friends with benefits” arrangement only to have a slew of things, including Tina, get in the way. The second was when Tina dated Kramer for an episode, driving Elaine crazy. And lastly, Tina appeared in Season Five, where it’s established that she moved out some time ago.
Despite Tina being criminally underused on Seinfeld, every time she showed up, she stole the scene, which is a credit to the actress who portrayed her: Siobhan Fallon Hogan, who also had a stint on...

The independent filmmaking community is up in arms over the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences’ recent decision to gut its archive and library, with some calling the cutbacks “a huge step backwards” and “disastrous” as they put pressure on the Academy to reconsider its decision.
On Oct. 30, AMPAS laid off 16 employees, roughly 2% of its total workforce. They were from the Academy Film Archive, which is responsible for the preservation, restoration and documentation of motion pictures, and the Margaret Herrick Library, home to millions of pieces of film history, from books to photographs to concept art to Oscar facts and more. The affected employees included archive director Mike Pogorzelski, preservation officer Josef Lindner and head of cataloguing Mike Brostoff, among others — many of whom have worked there for decades.
At the time of the layoffs, Academy CEO Bill Kramer characterized the staff cuts as part of a larger organizational restructuring.

Well, this was no surprise.
As I predicted in my column a couple of weeks ago on the search for a host for the 97th annual Academy Awards, the producing team from the 96th Oscars will be back for the 2025 ceremony.

The messy truth behind Seinfeld royalties left many cast members feeling less wealthy than they could have been. Despite the show’s iconic status and massive success, the financial fallout revealed a complicated landscape of contracts and negotiations. While Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David reaped the rewards of their creative genius, other key players faced financial struggles that highlighted the disparities in Hollywood.

Seinfeld witnessed some of its funniest moments when the parents of our iconic leads graced selected episodes. The NBC show often featured the parents as supporting characters. Surprisingly, Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ character Elaine Benes’ parents could never be a prominent part of the show.

Although Elaine Benes’ mother was never shown in the NBC sitcom, her father Alton Benes was set to be a recurring character after his introduction in Season 2 Episode 3. It was a controversial on-set incident by the late actor Lawrence Tierney that forced Alton Benes to never get another appearance.
Seinfeld, often hailed as one of the greatest sitcoms ever, provided immense laughs to the audiences. But hardly anyone expected Tierney to create a scary environment on set.

These days, every time I see a relatable, character-driven comedy about actual human beings I think, “Wow they sure don’t make ’em like this anymore.” It is like a shock to the system that someone managed to get one made and released. It makes me sad since this was once a popular genre with with major studios regularly filled theaters. Now at best it is left to streamers, or an occasional example that somehow sneaks onto a studio release schedule, or, in the case of writer-director Hallie Meyers-Shyer’s exceptionally smart and endearing Goodrich, it is being delivered to theaters by an independent (in this case Ketchup Entertainment) and sporting an endless list of “executive producers” (I counted 24 with that title) who put up enough money to get a deserving film on the screen against all odds.

Tobin Bell became a horror icon from the moment John Kramer rose from the floor at the end of Saw, and the actor recently recalled his initial reaction to what he believed could be one of cinema's most unforgettable scenes. As it turned out, he was right, and not only did the 2004 low-budget movie deliver one of the greatest twists in film history, but went on to spawn a 10-movie-and-counting franchise.
While appearing at a special screening of the movie to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the birth of the sadistic but strangely morally guided Jigsaw killer, Bell recounted his initial reaction to reading the scripts incredible final moment, when the corpse that has been in plain sight all along turns out to the man orchestrating the horrifying deaths scattered throughout the film. Speaking at the screening during this years Beyond Fest, Bell explained:

The promise that John Kramer will continue to wreak havoc as the Jigsaw killer in Saw 11 is a huge relief after the disappointment of his supposed replacement earlier in the franchise. After Saw X became the best-reviewed Saw movie ever made and a hit at the box office, the franchise is bigger than ever. Set for a theatrical release on September 26, 2025, Saw 11 is the most highly anticipated Saw film in years, and that's a lot of pressure to live up to.
Tobin Bells latest Saw 11 update is a positive sign for the upcoming sequel. Apart from being touted as a direct sequel to Saw X, the details of Saw 11 are being kept under wraps. That said, in a recent interview, Bell promised that John Kramer is not done, suggesting hell be back in Saw 11. Previously, the cliffhanger ending of Saw X seemed to suggest that the franchise would be repeating...

Tobin Bell owns a metal briefcase that he uses to house nine composition books, each one containing the notes he took to prepare to play John Kramer, a.k.a. Jigsaw, in the movies that make up the Saw franchise.. Soon, he’ll start taking notes in a tenth book, because Saw XI is on track for a September 26, 2025 release – and he has confirmed to the LA Times that Kramer is “a main part” of the latest sequel.
The LA Times reports that the first page of the notes Bell took for the original Saw “includes a drawn spiral interrogating the likes, dislikes and motivations” of his character. The other pages “are occupied by a series of questions about the character. They start with the most basic details — ‘Where am I?’ for example — and evolve into increasingly specific queries until they form an inverse triangle brimming with insight he’s deciphered on his own.

Seinfeld wasn’t typically known for weighing in on important issues that actually affect people’s lives — unless of course you consider masturbation contests and surgeries being disrupted by projectile Junior Mints to be “important issues.” But the sixth season episode “The Couch” dove head-first into the abortion debate. And also the far less-important “cheating on your girlfriend’s book club” debate.
The episode begins with Jerry and Elaine dining at Poppie’s restaurant. When Jerry mentions the name of a popular pizza chain, Elaine insists that he shouldn’t ever order from them again because “the owner contributes a lot of money to those fanatical anti-abortion groups.” After Elaine discovers that Poppie, the Italian culinary whiz with an aversion to hand washing, is also anti-choice, she storms out of the restaurant, as do several other diners.
This all builds to a scene in which Kramer and Poppie meet to...

Tobin Bell has been a horror movie mainstay since 2004's Saw, when he had to lie on the dirty floor of a dilapidated bathroom, seemingly dead, only to be revealed as the true mastermind behind all of Jigsaw's twisted mind games. It's a role that has served him well and, on the verge of the 20th anniversary of the release of Saw, the actor has revealed that he will be returning for more games in next year's Saw XI.
During a chat with The Los Angeles Times to discuss the 20th anniversary of Saw and his legacy as John Kramer, a.k.a. Jigsaw, Bell revealed that he is returning for next year's Saw XI and that he will also be a main part of the film's plot. Seinfeld was infamously a show about nothing, but sometimes that "nothing" led to a lot of misguided laughs, especially when seen through the lens of the 21st century. Our lovable crew, comprised of Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer, didn't learn much about proper social etiquette through nine seasons and 180 episodes, even when they probably should have. Instead, it was often their misguided values that left an impact on the audience.
Sometimes, that meant Seinfeld pushed the boundaries of good taste, resulting in episodes like "The Puerto Rican Day," "The Cigar Store Indian," and "The Beard," to name but a few. Another of the series' most controversial but less seldom discussed episodes is Season Five's "The Bris." This uproarious but also, at times, wildly uncomfortable half-hour episode sees violent themes, conspiracy theories, and a controversial religious ceremony all take center stage in a combination so potently offensive that star Jason Alexander...
