Happy Face episode 8 recap and review: The real star emerges (Finale)
Image
The Happy Face season finale is finally here, and there’s one thing on my mind: When does season 2 arrive? I know it's billed as a limited series, but given how season 1 ends, I’d say the door is wide open to another season.

In episode 8, “The Star,” Keith (Dennis Quaid) suffers a heart attack while Melissa (Annaleigh Ashford) solves the Heather Richmond case and almost loses her own life in the process. While she emerges as the real star and finally frees herself from her father’s grasp, Hazel (Khiyla Aynne) takes her power back at school, and Ben (James Wolk) faces unexpected consequences for his actions. Let’s break this season finale recap down in detail!

Keith Jesperson (Dennis Quaid), a.k.a. Happy Face, suffers a heart attack in episode 8. Photo credit: Ed Araquel/Paramount+ Keith has a heart attack

It’s a day full of excitement for Keith.

Sarah Grey and Jake Manley in A Ordem (2019)
The Order (2024) Movie Ending Explained: Does Agent Terry Husk Find Robert Jay Matthews in the End?
Sarah Grey and Jake Manley in A Ordem (2019)
“The Order” (2024) is a brooding investigative thriller that puts another feather in director Justin Kurzel’s cap. After the chilling character portraits in “Nitram” and “The Snowtown Murders,” Kurzel returns with an equally harrowing depiction of evil in human beings. This time, he shifts his focus toward a White Supremacist terrorist group that was active in the 1980s. He paints the picture of a small American town mainly through the eyes of an FBI agent, who ends up in a cat-and-mouse chase with the terrorist group’s members. Although the plot essentially leads us toward its leader’s capture, it is more interested in interrogating the human tendencies that affect the usual order of any place, and how people react in such situations of change.

Spoilers Ahead

The Order (2024) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:

“The Order” starring Jude Law offers a grim portrait of an FBI investigation in the 1980s to investigate a white supremacist group,...

Get Fast Review: Laughter and Action in Perfect Harmony
Image
In “Get Fast,” a 2024 action crime film, viewers are thrown into a frenzy of heists and fast-paced chase scenes. This is a follow-up to James Clayton’s “Bullet Proof.” It explores loyalty among crooks and is filled with absurdity and humor, like a fun action movie with lots of crazy moments.

“Get Fast” is a commentary on the human situation, going beyond mere adrenaline-fueled escape. The narrative reflects historical figures who straddle the line between heroism and villainy. The Cowboy (Phillips) embodies the endearing rogue archetype, diverting our attention away from the violence that lies dormant behind his charisma.

The humor in the film serves as a coping strategy for the chaos. Offering a mirror to our social choices is a time obsessed with instant gratification. “Get Fast” challenges viewers to question their role in the craziness of today’s thrill-seeking world. The motto, “Get fast, get gone,” encapsulates a...

'Bullet Proof' Action Flick With 33% Rt Score Is Now One of the Most-Streamed Movies
Image
In 2022, James Clayton directed Bullet Proof, his first feature film which, unfortunately, was met with more than a few unkind words from critics. Starring Clayton as The Thief, the movie also featured the talents of Vinnie Jones, Lina Lecompte, and Philip Granger, who all banded together to create what this writer believes is a fun, action-packed adventure, despite what the detractors say. Now, two years later, it seems a lot of people agree, as the film has risen to the top of the global charts over on Paramount+.

Per FlixPatrol, Bullet Proof has taken the top spot on the streaming service in 18 countries, including Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and Venezuela, to name a few. The plot revolves around Clayton’s character pulling off the heist of a lifetime when he robs the psychotic drug lord, Temple (Jones), only to discover a stowaway in his getaway car – Temple's pregnant wife, Mia (Lecompte...

The Order Review: Jude Law & Nicholas Hoult Explore The Evils Of Hatred In Gripping Crime Thriller
Image
This review was originally published on August 31, 2024, as a part of our Venice Film Festival coverage.

The Order is about hate, though not quite in the way you'd expect. It seems an obvious theme, given the story follows a white supremacist terrorist cell and the FBI's effort to stop them, and some space is given to the hateful doctrine they live by. But the movie is less interested in hate ideologically as it is in the feeling. And director Justin Kurzel is less interested in explaining that feeling than he is in observing it and its effects. Surround that goal with across-the-board quality, and you have a consistently tense crime thriller that leaves a lasting mark.

A lone FBI agent, stationed in a small Idaho town, uncovers a disturbing connection between a series of violent bank robberies and a white supremacist group known as The Order. As the investigation deepens,...

Jude Law's Neo-Nazi Crime Thriller Was Inspired by January 6
Image
Jude Law's newest film may technically be a period piece loosely based on a true story from the past, but its resonance feels eerily prescient for the present, as well. And that may not be totally coincidental, as The Order's director Justin Kurzel recently revealed how the January 6 insurrection inspired the Neo-Nazi crime thriller.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kurzel broke down how the visuals from the day showed him just how relevant the story he was telling was to modern times. As Kurzel put it, "There were just so many similarities to what was going on within this incredible script Zach had written that I just found it so compelling and wanted to find a way into it that I felt could be a wonderful first American film."

He added, "I was really surprised that I was reading a period piece that was speaking so...

Jude Law Takes on Neo-Nazi Terrorists in The Order Trailer
Image
Based on true events in the 1980's The Order stars Jude Law as FBI agent Terry Husk investigating a series of car heists and bank robberies. He soon discovers that the crimes are the work of a Neo-Nazi terrorist group, fronted by Bob Mathews (Nicholas Hoult), looking to fund their uprising against the US Government.

Set to release in US cinemas on July 6, Justin Kurzel's crime thriller received a 7-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival. Early reviews put the film at an 86% Rotten Tomatoes score, with critics largely describing the film as a compelling and intelligent docudrama. In a newly released trailer, suspicions grow about Husk after white supremacist fliers begin to appear around Washington.

Jude Law Crime Thriller The Order Promises to Be One of the Best of the Year
Image
Jude Law's latest film, The Order, received a seven-minute standing ovation at the Venice International Film Festival and promises to be one of the best movies of the year. While much of the attention went to the film's leading man, Law's co-stars and director also enjoyed the celebration-like reception of the crime thriller, which is based on a true story. The Order is director Justin Kurzel's latest drama and stars Law alongside Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Sebastian Pigott, Jurnee Smollett, Huxley Fisher, and Marc Maron, among others.

Per a report from the event via Variety, the premiere in Venice resonated with the audience, who cheered for the director and cast for seven whole minutes (some reports put the number as high as eight), during a standing ovation that would likely have lasted longer if the cast and crew hadn't exited the theater. How Tucker & Dale vs. Evil Tackles Prejudice and Bias
Image
There have been many horror movie spoofs, but only a few age well or stay relevant, which is a circumstance of time. Jokes become outdated, inappropriate or incomprehensible and particular thrills fade. As a result, such films have a different impact than they did during their initial release, and current audiences may engage with them less. Still, certain movies hold up, especially when they employ satire to subvert and dissect issues pertinent to contemporary society, which is arguably the case with Tucker & Dale vs. Evil.

As far as dark comedy horror films go, the movie has aged beautifully. The film turned the common "crazed hillbilly" trope seen in such films as Deliverance, Wrong Turn and Texas Chainsaw Massacre on its head in a humorous and heartfelt way. However, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil debatably resonates with fans because it exploits the irony embedded in its title. After all, an...

New UK Trailer for Action Film 'Death Pursuit' Starring Vinnie Jones
Adam Sandler and Damon Wayans in À Prova de Balas (1996)
"If he's still alive... get him!!" Signature Entertainment in the UK has revealed an official UK trailer for an action thriller film titled Death Pursuit, also known as Bullet Proof. Both of these titles are generic and unexciting and don't offer any unique insight into what this film is about. A psychotic drug lord and his top hit man pursue the cantankerous thief who made off with his money and his beautiful wife. This Canadian production is described as "a full-throttle action thriller boasting jaw-dropping stunts and featuring action superstar Vinnie Jones." The film's director, James Clayton, plays the thief who pulls off a robbery of a lifetime but ends up with extra baggage. His only chance to escape is to drive. The cast also includes Lina Lecompte, Janvier Katabarwa, Philip Granger, and Gaston Morrison. It looks like more straight-to-vhs action trash right from a bargain bin in the 90s.

More Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil May Happen, But It's Not a Sequel
Eli Craig
Back in 2010 co-writer/director, Eli Craig unleashed a backwoods horror-comedy on the world called Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil. The film starred Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) as two scruffy pals whose backwoods vacation takes a bloody turn when ignorant college students, including the gorgeous Katrina Bowden, mistake them for a pair of murderous hillbillies.

And if you're as much of a fan of the flick I am, then you'll be delighted to hear that it seems a follow-up is in the works. Yes, Dale himself, Tyler Labine recently was out and about talking up his recent horror hit Escape Room and dropped some teases that we will be seeing Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil 2 in the near future. Specifically, Labrine said this.

"Yes. We're working on something right now. I wouldn't call it a film sequel, but the story is not done being told.

Comforting Skin (2011) Movie Trailer: Derek Franson, Victoria Bidewell
Comforting Skin Trailer. Derek Franson‘s Comforting Skin (2011) movie trailer stars Victoria Bidewell, Tygh Runyan, Jane Sowerby, Phil Granger, and Ava Hughes. Comforting Skin‘s plot synopsis: “a supernatural thriller that follows Koffie, a lonely young woman who’s desperate need for emotional and sexual companionship draws her into a surreal and ultimately destructive relationship with a shifting and whispering tattoo she has willed to life on her skin.”

Damn does this horror movie look good and somehow it “was shot last spring on a budget of roughly $250,000.” I’m impressed.

On the tattoo special effects in Comforting Skin:

That was done through the use of digital animation and compositing techniques, requiring custom code developed by VFX Supervisor Ollie Rankin.

Comforting Skin also stars Eugene Lipinski, Jenn Griffin, Paul Jarrett, Laura Soltis, John Tench, Stephen Lofstrom, Jesai Jayhmes, Nicola Rollet, and Jared Cote.

Title: Tucker and Dale Vs. VOD on August 26, 2011 If “Tucker and Dale vs. Evil” is not the funniest take-off on slasher movies in decades, then I’d better get out more often—especially to films broadly considered of the horror genre.
